Our client is seeking a Business Head to be based in Malaysia, responsible for formulating and executing the company’s long-term regional strategy while overseeing day-to-day operations.
The role’s core mandate is to identify commercial opportunities and relevant resources, drive the expansion of both existing and new businesses locally, and safeguard the company’s interests and reputation in Malaysia. It will also serve as a key strategic bridge between headquarters, the local market, government authorities, and business partners.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Strategic Leadership & Business Development:
Develop and implement the company's business development plans in Malaysia, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy.
Identify and evaluate new trade opportunities, including commodity procurement/sales, trade node establishment, and new trade models, as well as new investment opportunities such as mining asset acquisitions, joint ventures, and greenfield project development.
Lead commercial negotiations and oversee the signing of key agreements (e.g., JV, offtake, lease agreements).
Government & External Relations Management:
Establish and maintain high-level relationships with various levels of government, regulatory bodies, industry associations, and key stakeholders in Malaysia.
Manage all government affairs, including but not limited to license applications, renewals, compliance reviews, and policy advocacy.
Represent the company at industry forums and public events to enhance the corporate brand image.
Operations & Compliance Oversight:
Ensure office operations strictly comply with local laws, regulations, environmental standards, and health & safety norms in Malaysia.
Implement headquarters' risk management policies locally.

Qualifications and Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Administration, Law, Finance, Engineering, Languages, or a related discipline.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of experience in commodity trading.
Prior experience in a local representative or country-level role will be an advantage.
Previous working experience with Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOEs) will be an advantage.
Skills:
Strong capabilities in strategic planning, financial analysis, and commercial negotiation.
Proven leadership, communication, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
Strong problem-solving ability and sound commercial judgment.
