Key Responsibilities
1. Centre Leadership & Operations
Oversee the daily operations of the preschool, ensuring smooth and efficient
functioning.
Ensure compliance with ECDA licensing requirements, policies, and the Code of
Practice.
Lead strategic planning, centre development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Manage enrolment, staffing, scheduling, and overall centre performance.
2. Child Safety, Health & Well-being
Establish and maintain a child-safe environment across the centre.
Ensure proper implementation of health, hygiene, and safety procedures.
Supervise staff to ensure appropriate child management practices.
Investigate and report incidents to ECDA when required.
Principals must ensure safety practices, supervise staff conduct, and address any
inappropriate practices promptly.
3. Curriculum & Pedagogical Leadership
Guide teachers in lesson planning, pedagogy, and child development practices.
Monitor teaching quality and classroom environments.
Promote holistic development (cognitive, social, emotional, and physical).
4. Staff Management & Professional Development
Recruit, supervise, and evaluate teaching and non-teaching staff.
Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.
Ensure staff meet ECDA qualification and certification requirements (e.g., L2
certification).
Foster a positive, collaborative work culture.
5. Parent & Community Engagement
Build strong partnerships with parents and families.
Communicate children’s progress and address concerns effectively.
Promote community involvement and organise centre events.
Strengthen family engagement initiatives.
6. Compliance & Governance
Ensure the centre meets all ECDA licensing, audit, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports.
Prepare for ECDA inspections and audits.
Implement policies aligned with government regulations.
7. Financial & Resource Management
Manage centre budget, resources, and procurement.
Ensure cost-effective operations while maintaining quality standards.
Oversee facilities, equipment, and learning materials.
Qualifications
(ECDA-Aligned)
- Minimum Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education –
Leadership (DECCE-L) / DPL / ADECL or equivalent.
- Recognised by ECDA as a qualified Principal (e.g., L2 certified
with leadership qualification).
- Relevant teaching certification and approval under ECDA (e.g.,
listed on One@ECDA).
- Typically 3–5 years of teaching experience, with leadership
experience preferred.
