Job Purpose:
The Section Head, Planned Maintenance System (PMS) team is responsible for the effective management, compliance, and continuous improvement of the PMS across the MOL GSM fleet. This role ensures that all shipboard and shore‑based maintenance activities comply with MOL standards, ISM Code, Class, Flag State, and statutory requirements. The PMS Manager acts as the subject‑matter expert for PMS governance, data quality, audits, and system optimisation, supporting safe, reliable, and cost‑effective vessel operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
PMS Governance & Administration
Manage and control the Planned Maintenance System PAL for LNG vessels.
Ensure all machinery, equipment, and critical systems are accurately reflected in the PMS.
Define and maintain maintenance plans, intervals, job scopes, and critical equipment settings.
Ensure PMS data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across the fleet.
Spare Optimisation.
Compliance & Regulatory Requirements
- Ensure PMS compliance with:
- ISM Code requirements
- Classification Society rules
- Flag State regulations
- MOL / MOL GSM technical standards
- Support internal, external, Class, Flag, vetting, and customer audits
- Monitor and close PMS‑related non‑conformities, observations, and recommendations
- Ensure statutory and safety‑critical maintenance is clearly identified and tracked
Maintenance Planning & Execution Support
- Monitor planned vs. completed maintenance and manage PMS backlog
- Review defect reports, breakdown records, and corrective maintenance actions
- Support Chief Engineers and vessel staff in effective PMS utilisation
- Coordinate maintenance planning aligned with voyage schedules and operational constraints
Dry‑Docking & Major Maintenance Support
- Support PMS data preparation for dry‑dockings and major repairs
- Validate maintenance history, overdue items, and life‑cycle data
- Assist technical teams with maintenance scope planning and post‑dock close‑out
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze PMS data to identify trends in failures, overdue maintenance, and reliability risks
- Prepare PMS performance reports and dashboards for management review
- Recommend improvements to maintenance strategies, intervals, and task optimisation.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Technical Superintendents
- Fleet Managers
- Ship staff (Masters / Chief Engineers)
- IT / PMS system providers
- Vendors and Class as required
- Act as focal point for PMS‑related guidance and troubleshooting
Training & Continuous Improvement
- Train ship and shore staff on PMS usage, best practices, and MOL standards
- Develop PMS procedures, guidelines, and user manuals
- Support system upgrades, configuration changes, and digital initiatives
Promote a culture of preventive maintenance and data‑driven asset management
Job Requirements:
Education: Chief Engineer/MEO Class 1 Certificate of Competency, Motor & steam,with Dangerous Cargo Endorsement and additionally, an MSc.
Experience: Sailed as Chief Engineer on LNG vessels for at least 3 years, with sailing experience on all types of vessels of at least 15 years and at least 5 years of shore experience in a ship owner/management company. Proficiency in PAL PMS.
Knowledge: Good knowledge of ISM (International Safety Management Code), TMSA (Tanker Management and Self-Assessment), SIRE (Ship Inspection Report Program), and ISO standards. Monitoring & sharing international rules, regulations, and shipping industries’ standards, including interfacing with regulatory agencies
IT Skills: Proficiency in IT tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Business Intelligence (BI) tools.
Soft Skills: Good organisational and communication skills, a positive attitude, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and a team player. Strong analytical and reporting capabilities, close attention to detail and data discipline. Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
Language Skills: Good command of spoken and written English.
Documentation Skill: Excellent and speedy documentation skills.
Negotiation Skill: Strong negotiation skills, ability to build consensus.
