Job Description

I am looking for up to two highly skilled and motivated individuals to work with me as full-time research professionals. 

You will work with NUS Business School Professor Karsten Müller at the Department of Finance. For the most part, you will support Karsten’s research agenda on macro-financial linkages and historical macroeconomic statistics. This work uses macro and micro data and cutting-edge statistical methods to understand when credit booms endanger financial stability, what the sources of long-run growth are, and how boom-bust cycles can shape the economy of a country for decades. Among other things, you will help to (a) construct novel data sources to measure credit market conditions and historical macroeconomic outcomes, (b) analyse data to understand the role of financial frictions on firm outcomes, and (c) help estimate measures of economic activity ranging back centuries for many countries. 
 
You will work with us on a variety of tasks, including data collection and analysis, statistical programming and data visualization, conducting literature reviews, summarizing research findings and policy documents, and editing research papers. You will have access to resources, including part-time research assistants, and collaborate closely with other members of Professor Müller’s lab. The most important requirement for this position is that you are highly ambitious and eager to learn, and you should ideally bring a proven an interest in economic research. 

The position is based in Singapore. A successful candidate will be able to participate in the academic life at NUS, including the ability to attend research seminars and potentially PhD courses. Qualifications
Ideal candidates will:
(i)    have a strong background in economics, finance, or data science;

A background in economics or finance is a plus but not necessary. I have often worked with computer science or data science students as well. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and self-directed, adept at learning new technical skills when needed.

In this rapidly changing world, the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Health (CCEH) is advancing research on how climate change, air pollution, and extreme environmental conditions affect human health. Job Description

The Research Fellow will drive the development of atomic-layer-deposited (ALD) oxide semiconductor (OS) thin-film transistors and aggressively scaled short-channel OS devices for back-end-of-line (BEOL) integration with CMOS. Key responsibilities include:
•    Develop and optimize ALD processes for oxide semiconductor channel materials (e.g., IGZO, ITO, IZO) and BEOL-compatible gate dielectrics, including recipe development, precursor evaluation, and post-deposition treatments.
•    Design, fabricate, and characterize short-channel OS transistors targeting sub-100 nm channel lengths, with emphasis on contact engineering, access resistance reduction, and threshold voltage control.
•    Execute full process flows in the NUS cleanroom, including lithography, etch, deposition, and metallization; develop BEOL-compatible integration modules.
•    Perform electrical characterization (DC, pulsed I–V, low-frequency noise, TDDB/BTI reliability) and correlate device performance with process conditions and materials properties.
•    Prepare manuscripts for top-tier venues (IEDM, VLSI, Nature journals) and present results at international conferences.
•    Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and assist with grant reporting and proposal preparation.

Qualifications

Essential:
•    PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
•    Hands-on cleanroom fabrication experience with thin-film transistors or advanced CMOS/BEOL process modules.
•    Demonstrated expertise in ALD process development, including familiarity with thermal and plasma-enhanced ALD tools, precursor chemistry, and in-situ/ex-situ film characterization.
•    Strong background in semiconductor device physics, transistor electrostatics, and short-channel effects.
•    Proficiency in electrical characterization of transistors (transfer/output curves, mobility extraction, subthreshold analysis, reliability testing).
•    Track record of first-author publications in reputable device/materials venues.
•    Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.

Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is a pan-university research institute that focuses on systems-level research for tropical megacities. It performs translational research that covers the energy value chain from generation to innovative end-use solutions, motivated by industrialisation and deployment. The Research Assistant will lead a project on Waste-to-Resource technologies, with primary responsibility for the design, construction, and commissioning of a pilot-scale thermal waste treatment facility. This role contributes directly to the University’s mission of advancing impactful, applied research by developing and demonstrating sustainable waste management solutions that support resource recovery, environmental stewardship, and the transition to a circular economy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead technology screening and evaluation to identify suitable thermal treatment processes (e.g. gasification, pyrolysis, combustion) for diverse solid waste streams, including municipal solid waste.

• Contribute to the end-to-end planning, detailed design, installation, commissioning, and operation of a pilot-scale thermochemical waste treatment facility, including hands-on engineering and troubleshooting.

• Work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PIs to develop and implement risk assessments, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and safety protocols, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations for construction and operation of the pilot facility.

• Investigate and evaluate options for energy recovery and electricity generation from the thermal waste treatment process (e.g. syngas utilization, heat recovery systems, gas engine applications).

• Support the identification, characterization, and evaluation of value-added applications for solid residues generated from thermal treatment processes (e.g. biochar, pyrolysis char, ashes), including potential reuse pathways and performance assessment.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or closely related field

• Relevant hands-on experience (academic, pilot-scale, or industrial) in thermal waste treatment, process engineering, or related fields is an advantage

• Familiarity with best practices in waste management and state-of-the art technologies for solid waste treatment

• Strong foundation in thermodynamics, including mass and energy balance calculations and process performance analysis

• Experience or demonstrated ability in designing, building, commissioning, and testing pilot or demonstration-scale systems

• Competence in data and information visualization, including process flow diagrams, technical presentations, and performance reporting

• Ability to work independently and develop practical engineering solutions under tight timelines

• Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly

• Ability to collaborate effectively within an international, multidisciplinary team and across different time zones

• Proven ability to build rapport, influence technical and non-technical stakeholders, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
