Job Summary
The Paint Technician is responsible for carrying out high-quality automotive paint repairs in accordance with Tesla’s strict repair standards. This role ensures all refinishing work meets OEM specifications, focusing on precision, safety, and premium finish quality.
Key Responsibilities
1. Surface Preparation
- Inspect damaged vehicles and assess paint repair requirements
- Perform sanding, masking, priming, and surface preparation
- Ensure panels are properly cleaned and prepped before painting
2. Paint Application
- Mix and match paint using approved waterborne paint systems
- Apply basecoat, clearcoat, and other coatings following OEM procedures
- Ensure accurate color matching using spectrophotometer (if applicable)
- Maintain consistent film thickness and finish quality
3. Quality Control
- Inspect completed paintwork for defects (e.g., runs, orange peel, dust)
- Perform polishing and finishing to achieve Tesla-quality standards
- Rectify imperfections to meet strict acceptance criteria
4. Equipment & Booth Operation
- Operate spray booths, curing systems, and paint equipment safely
- Maintain tools, spray guns, and paint systems in optimal condition
- Ensure proper booth cleanliness and environmental compliance
5. Compliance with Tesla Standards
- Follow all Tesla-approved repair methods and paint procedures
- Adhere strictly to OEM guidelines and documentation requirements
- Participate in Tesla training and certification programs
6. Workplace Safety & Housekeeping
- Comply with all EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) standards
- Use PPE and handle hazardous materials properly
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Requirements
- Proven experience as an automotive paint technician (collision repair preferred)
- Experience with waterborne paint systems (mandatory)
- Familiarity with OEM repair standards (Tesla experience is a strong advantage)
- Ability to perform precise color matching and high-end finishing
- Knowledge of spray booth operations and paint equipment
- Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification from recognized automotive or paint training institutions
- Experience in a Tesla Approved Collision Center or premium OEM workshop
- Knowledge of aluminum panel repair refinishing processes
- Familiarity with digital color matching tools
