The successful candidate will get a front-row seat to the corporate scene and the development of capital markets in Singapore. You will sniff for newsworthy changes at companies, analyse their financial well-being and corporate moves, and compare them with their peers in the industry or across the region. You will need to be acquainted with regulations related to the capital markets including the Securities and Futures Act

You will flesh out how companies are affected by and responding to policy changes, market regulations, economic climate, and investor sentiment. You should be aware of the big picture trends such as AI and sustainability and how they impact companies. You should have an eye for numbers and be able to translate them into company stories that are accessible even to non-industry readers. You will need to know how to join the dots, write with clarity and authority, and build out the paper's incisive coverage on companies and markets here.

The applicant should be quick at spotting trends and be ready to offer insightful commentary. A nose for scoops is a plus. You should be driven by curiosity, and embrace a growth mindset.

Job Requirements

• Relevant degree in Economics, Business, Finance, or any relevant fields
• Sharp news sense and at least three years’ experience in writing about the Singapore companies
• Familiarity with regulatory institutions, economic and social issues, monetary policies, investment data, and other commonly used financial and market indicators
• Fluent in written and spoken English. Familiarity with an Asian language is a plus
• Comfortable with working both independently and collaboratively
• Committed to learning and adapting to new ways to tell a story better

NIE invites applicants for a Senior Executive / Executive position in the Finance Department. The Senior Executive / Executive plays a critical role in providing payroll and claims administration support for the Institute and ensuring accurate and timely payroll posting and claim processing for all employees within the organization.

He/She oversees the payroll posting and claims administration, ensures compliance to statutory requirements, government legislation and group policies and standards, supports reporting needs and attends to queries from staff and stakeholders. 

Responsibilities

• Manage payroll administration support including the monthly payroll postings for both full-time and part-time staff, statutory contributions and period end closing activities.
• Process payroll-related payments including but not limited to education allowances, passage claims and other miscellaneous payments.
• Perform finance related activities including but not limited to journal entries, reclassifications, and general ledger (GL) postings.
• Ensure employee claims submissions are accurate and in compliance with group policies and standards.
• Support budget submission and evaluation.
• Prepare and maintain regular and ad hoc requests of management reports/data by staff.
• Provide payroll posting related information for internal and external audits.
• Address employee inquiries and concerns related to payroll and claim posting.
• Educate employees on payroll and claim-related policies and procedures.
• Ensure the confidentiality of payroll data.
• Ensure service levels and targets are consistent with standards and timeliness, and service is delivered to customers in accordance with pre-defined Service Level Agreement.
• Support in various payroll and claim related projects and initiatives.

Requirements

• A Polytechnic Diploma or Degree preferably in Accountancy, Business or its equivalent.
• Preferably 2 or more years of working experience in handling payroll or claims.
• Some experience in finance matters, with accounting knowledge, will be an advantage.
• Organized, meticulous in handling data and a service-oriented mind-set.
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn and adapt, with problem-solving skills.
• An effective team player with the ability to work independently is preferred.
• Ability to prioritize and plan work activities in an organized manner, able to multi-task, track and deliver assignments on schedule.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel is a must.
• Experience in SAP and Ariba would be an added advantage.
