Title: Field Service
Engineer (FSE)

to: Service Supervisor
Summary:
The
Field Service Engineer (FSE) delivers our service products at customer sites; He
or She does so in a manner consistent with Instron’s mission statement.
It is
expected that the FSE will protect and promote Instron’s premium image, product
design philosophy, and Accreditations. The
FSE will maintain an exceptional attitude and appearance and focus on the
continuous improvement of his or her technical abilities and overall delivery
of service.
The
FSE’s responsibilities include preventative maintenance and verification
services, troubleshooting and repair, and both new and retrofit system installation.
Typically, the FSE performs these services on basic and more complex
Electro-mechanical systems.
The
FSE may also be required to perform verification services on servo hydraulic
systems and assist in the repair, troubleshooting and installation of these
systems. It is expected that the FSE
will exceed his or her customers’ expectations whenever possible.
General Duties:
·
A strong emphasis on personal
and Team SAFETY procedures and requirements.
·
Deliver preventative
maintenance, verification, repair, and new and retrofit installation services
at customer sites that are compliant with the applicable quality management
system / accreditation documents.
·
Efficient travel to customer
sites in and outside of his or her assigned service territory.
·
Document all service
activities compliant with applicable service procedures.
·
Maintain a strong focus on all
assigned administrative tasks. These
include, but are not limited to, submitting “paperwork” (electronic and
hardcopy) at appropriate intervals, maintaining a current call queue, obtaining
purchase orders for all on-demand service assignments, assisting in the renewal
process for service contracts, and updating customer information to ensure an
accurate database.

Promote sales of additional
Instron product offerings (systems, accessories & service products).
·
Actively generate qualified
sales leads using established procedures.
·
Maintain all assigned company
property in a manner consistent with Instron’s premium image and applicable policies.
·
Continuous improvement of
technical and non-technical skill sets via company sponsored training classes
and self-directed educational / degree programs.
·
Temporary / non-traditional duties
may be assigned by management, such as trade show setup / attendance, product
seminars, hardware / software beta testing / development, etc…
Education, Knowledge, Skills, &
Ability Required:
·
Degree/Diploma in Electrical or Electronic
technology or trade school equivalent. Certifications in Electronic Engineering
Technology preferred.
·
Intermediate to advanced
computer system knowledge which includes experience with current operating
systems and productivity software (Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer,
etc…).
·
Knowledge of and experience
repairing Electro–mechanical (closed loop control) systems.
·
Knowledge of closed loop control with an
understanding of various control methods (load, strain etc….).
·
Excellent written and oral communication
skills.
·
Ability to act as a field technical support
resource for AFSEs, fellow FSEs, and other support staff.
·
Ability to comprehend and
interpret technical information involving mechanics, electronics and materials
science.
·
Must be able to interpret blueprints and
schematics.
·
Ability to understand Quality
Systems and their intent.
·
Ability to work independently, with little
supervision and manage diverse customer situations.
·
Ability to manage a service
schedule in a manner which results in timely service for our customers and an
uninterrupted revenue stream.
·
Ability to accept changes and
recommend best practices, including positive participation in Team, Regional,
and National meetings.
·
Ability to successfully
interact with his or her co-workers, manager, and other support staff in a
positive and productive fashion; delivering a consistent, premium service
product to Instron customers.
·
The above skills are normally acquired through
at least 3 years of directly related experience in a service / preventative
maintenance or technical / mechanical repair environment - including a
successful track record with at least 2 years of self-scheduled service
experience.
Working conditions:
·
Manufacturing plant or lab
environment with occasional exposure to heat, humidity, oil, dirt, grease,
dust, etc.
·
Regular use of a variety of
hand tools and diagnostic / heavy equipment.
·
Some lifting required (up to
approximately 30kg).
Travel
could average three nights per week, four weeks per month.
