We are seeking a Research Fellow to assist the lead researchers on the Australian Research Council funded project “Extreme Heat in Cities: Co-Developing Just Adaptation for Urban Tourism”.

As a Research Fellow, you’ll be part of an interdisciplinary team across climate change, tourism and health. Key responsibilities include:

• Analyse high-resolution NASA climate data (available open access) to create downscaled climate models for the global Top 100 tourism cities. Calculate heat risk thresholds for visitors and different future time horizons.
• Process local daily climate data from the Bureau of Meteorology and work with remote sensing-derived city heat maps (e.g. using Landsat 8 satellite data) to add spatial layers for tourism activity.
• Under supervision, mine public health data to identify patterns of visitor-related health service usage, spatially and temporally.
• Integrate health data with other relevant datasets, such as spatial heat maps, visitor statistics and other relevant factors. 
• Contribute to developing a predictive model for future tourism-induced strains on the health system.
• Produce and contribute to academic publications and reports arising from the research.

Griffith Review is a strategic and high-profile engagement initiative of Griffith University, A quarterly literary and current affairs journal, Griffith Review published new work from established and emerging writers and thinkers in print and online.

The Senior Editor works alongside the Editor and Editorial Assistant of Griffith Review, and supports the objectives of the publication, by editing (structural and copy) material for print and online publication, managing the journal’s print production process, preparing content for marketing purposes and supporting other activities as required. 

Throughout the publication process, the Senior Editor will liaise with Griffith Review staff, contributors, external and internal stakeholders and suppliers. 

The Senior Editor will work with the Griffith Review team to determine website content, marketing strategies and special projects, contributing to a dynamic publication and events program. 

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Undertake copyediting and proofreading for the print and online iterations of Griffith Review, and for special projects as required, in line with established procedures, policies and schedules.

The Office of the Pro Vice Chancellor (Health), led by Professor Scott Bell, is seeking an experienced Study Coordinator / Project Manager to support the coordination of local and national research studies on mycobacterial pathogens in patients with cystic fibrosis and chronic lung diseases.

The role focuses on understanding the prevalence, risk factors, and potential transmission pathways of non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), particularly Mycobacterium abscessus, using applied research methods including whole genome sequence analysis. This position combines research, project management, and high-level administrative support to the Chief Investigator, ensuring effective collaboration with investigators, stakeholders, and multiple clinical and laboratory sites nationally.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct internationally competitive research in medical and molecular mycobacteriology.

Griffith University’s Quantum and Advanced Technologies Research Institute (QUATRI) undertakes world-leading research in quantum theory, quantum experiments, and micro- and nano-technology. The Institute comprises more than 100 researchers with numerous collaborations. Our research encompasses many areas, including quantum information processing, quantum foundations, ultrafast quantum processes, microfluidics, nanomaterials, and compound semiconductor fabrication. The Institute hosts a node of the Australian Research Council’s Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computer Performance and Integration, and partners with many outside bodies including Psi-Quantum and The Australian Nanofabrication Facility. It is the premier place in Australia for quantum foundations research (theory and experiment).

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a Research Fellow in quantum foundations to work on the externally funded project, “Advancing Quantum Experiments to Test Reality Beyond Bell’s Theorem” held by Prof. Howard Wiseman, Assoc. Prof. Eric Cavalcanti and Dr Nora Tischler at Griffith University. This grant builds on the Local Friendliness No-Go theorem published by us and co-workers (Bong et al., Nature Physics 2020), in particular with new experiments inspired by it, and working out the implications of the theorem and variations on it. The job will include conceptual analysis in quantum foundations, analytic calculations in quantum information theory, and may require coding on both classical and quantum computers. 

Success in this role requires collaboration with theorists Wiseman and Cavalcanti, and engagement with experiments led by Tischler and international collaborator Dr William Zeng (Unitary Foundation).

About you

• To be successful within this role, you will hold a PhD in Physics, or Philosophy of Physics, or equivalent qualifications/work experience in a relevant field.
• You will have demonstrated research experience in quantum foundations or fundamental aspects of quantum mechanics, especially quantum information.
• You will have a record of publication in high-quality peer-reviewed journals. 
• You will have the passion and a demonstrated ability to undertake and communicate high-quality research.
• You will have high-level interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication skills, which enable you to collaborate and work effectively as a team member.
• In addition, you will have a high level of self-motivation and the ability to take initiative and work independently.

What we can offer

The position will have a primary location at Griffith University’s Gold Coast Campus (with Cavalcanti), or its Brisbane South Campus, Nathan (with Wiseman), to be negotiated with the successful applicant before the start date. But the appointee will be expected to visit both campuses weekly.

This is a full time fixed-term position for 18 months. Sponsorship may be offered for the right candidate. 

Salary Range

Research Fellow Grade 1 – Base salary range - $88,689.84 - $103,888.71 + 17% superannuation (pension fund).

About the Opportunity 

Under broad direction, the Executive Officer provides high level operational and executive support to the Director of Office of the Vice Chancellor and Government Relations and coordinates all activities associated with the government relations portfolio.  

The Executive Officer undertakes high level project work, developing strategy, briefing and position papers with respect to issues associated with government relations. This position provides first line advisory services to internal departments or external agencies seeking information from the Office.  This position is also required to provide support in policy drafting, revision and evaluation. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Provide high level executive and administrative support to the Director, Office of the Vice Chancellor and Government Relations, including coordination of actions arising from key decisions.  

• Research, analyse and prepare briefs, correspondence, presentations, reports, and strategy or policy papers for senior executives and internal and external stakeholders.  

• Manage complex and sensitive matters on behalf of the Director, exercising sound judgement and discretion.  

• Lead coordination and project management of special initiatives, projects and events.  

• Build and maintain effective relationships and networks across the University and with government, industry and community stakeholders.  

• Provide subject matter expertise and policy advice across a range of portfolio activities.  

• Undertake additional responsibilities aligned with the seniority and objectives of the role as required. 

About you 

• The occupant of the position will hold postgraduate qualification or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

Salary Range 
 
HEW 8 Salary – FTE base salary range - $113,713.03 - $127,923.91 per annum + 17% super. Pro-rata base salary - $45,485.21 - $51,169.57 + 17% super.  

A Senior Student Administration Officer plays a vital role in delivering high-quality administrative support to students across all stages of their academic journey, helping ensure their success and a seamless experience from enrolment to graduation.

Key responsibilities include:

• Manage complex student administration issues and offer expert advice on matters related to enrolment, program variations, progression, and graduation. 
• Assess and process applications such as credit transfers, cross-institutional studies, degree variations, and course substitutions. 
• Verify students' eligibility to graduate and coordinate with academic elements and the Graduations Office. 
• Engage in activities that support the student journey from recruitment through to graduation.
• Contribute to the delivery and continuous improvement of Student Administration functions. 
• Support third-party student administration functions. 

About you

• It is essential you have demonstrated experience in student administration within a tertiary education environment, particularly in areas such as credit, enrolment, progression, and graduation.

In addition, you have  

• A thorough understanding of academic policies and procedures, including program structures, credit transfer rules, and degree requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to assess and process complex applications, such as credit transfers, cross-institutional studies, and program variations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, and staff.

Salary Range
The full time equivalent base salary will be HEW Level 5 range $79,705 - $89,416 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $93,255 - $104,617 per annum.
