Role Overview
- We are seeking a technically proficient and highly adaptable Senior/Site Geophysicist to join our team, specializing in seismic reflection data acquisition for Tunnel Look-Ahead (TLA) applications. In this critical role, you will be involved directly within the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) environment, acquiring geophysical data for ground risks forecasting ahead of the tunnel construction.
- This position is ideal for a hands-on professional who thrives in construction environments, possesses a strong background in urban or applied geophysics and site engineering work, and is committed to delivering high-quality, actionable data under demanding project timelines.
Responsibilities
- Lead onsite setup, calibration, and operation of seismic equipment within the TBM to acquire accurate seismic data.
- Execute seismic data acquisition under high-noise, challenging conditions while ensuring rigorous quality control of raw data.
- Perform rapid and accurate preliminary processing and interpretation of seismic reflection data to support ground risk assessment.
- Coordinate site-specific worker arrangements and troubleshoot hardware issues (seismographs, geophones, cabling) in confined spaces.
- Maintain comprehensive equipment maintenance logs to ensure operational readiness.
- Collaborate closely with TBM operators, site engineers, and project managers to integrate geophysical findings into excavation workflows and safety protocols.
- Adapt survey methods and troubleshoot technical equipment malfunctions to meet dynamic TBM operating conditions.
- Work effectively in 24/7 TBM-scheduled environments, including night shifts, weekends, and holidays as required by excavation progress.
Required competencies and certifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geophysics, Geology, or a related Engineering field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in applied or urban geophysics.
- Proficiency in operating seismographs, geophone arrays, and seismic data acquisition software.
- Ability to work flexible hours in a 24/7 TBM environment, including night shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot technical equipment malfunctions and adapt survey methods.
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Valid Confined Space Entry training certification.
- BCSS (Building Construction Supervisors Safety) certification.
- Prior direct experience working within underground tunneling projects.
- Familiarity with seismic hardware operation and specific interpretation workflows.
What We Offer
· Competitive Salary: Highly competitive compensation package commensurate with experience.
· Allowances: Comprehensive transport and site allowances.
· Project Impact: Direct involvement in high-profile urban infrastructure projects where your expertise directly influences critical excavation decisions.
· Professional Growth: Opportunity to work in a dynamic, growing team developing and deploying cutting-edge geophysical technologies in the specialized field of urban tunneling.
