Responsibilities:

Operational Support & Reporting

·        Prepare project status reports, management reports, and dashboards for all scope areas (projects, operations, risk, vendor management).

We are expanding our laboratory unit at the Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Office, SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Center. Our lab is very active in preclinical therapeutics development and in-vivo testing on a large range of brain tumors. We are looking for a Research Fellow to play an essential role in the development and evaluation of a programme of work to optimise cancer screening uptake in primary care. The Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities (LKYCIC) at the Singapore University of Technology and Design(SUTD) invites applications for full-time Research Assistant/Associate appointments to support applied research and innovation projects on people, communities, and cities.

The position is suited for candidates with strong interests in mixed-methods social science research, social policy innovation, community development, and translating research into real-world impact. The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary teamworking at the intersection of behavioural science, urban planning, public health, sustainability, and community activation.

About the role

The successful candidate will contribute to projects in LKYCIC focusing on understanding how social and built environments shape individual and community outcomes, and how research can be translated into practical interventions, programmes, policies, and design solutions.

Current and upcoming projects include:

• Social capital and community resilience in neighbourhoods and community hubs
• Climate adaptation, urban heat resilience, and sustainable living
• Community activation and citizen engagement initiatives
•  Population health and healthy neighbourhoods
• Design and evaluation of community-based interventions
• Development of practical tools, frameworks, and guidelines for policymakers and practitioners

Projects typically involve a combination of surveys, interviews, focus groups, behavioural observations, workshops, participatory design activities, and field-based research conducted in partnership with government agencies, community organisations, industry partners, and residents. Depending on the project, researchers may also have opportunities to work with digital platforms, spatial data, and emerging AI-enabled tools that support research, community engagement, programme design, and policy innovation.

Key responsibilities

The candidate will be expected to:

• Support the design and implementation of mixed-methods research studies
• Conduct literature reviews and evidence synthesis
• Design and administer surveys, interviews, focus groups, and workshops
• Conduct field observations and community-based data collection
• Analyse qualitative and quantitative data using appropriate methods and software
• Assist in stakeholder engagement, participatory design, and community activation activities
• Support project management, coordination, and reporting
• Prepare research reports, policy briefs, presentations, and academic manuscripts
• Contribute to the translation of research findings into practical recommendations, interventions, and tools
• Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary researchers and external partners

The Centre may, at its discretion, assign additional responsibilities from time to time, such as teaching or other duties aligned with the Centre’s needs.

Skills and qualifications required

• Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree (MA, MSc, March, MPP or equivalent) in sociology, public policy, geography, urban studies, architecture, public health, psychology, community development, social work, behavioural science, environmental studies, or related disciplines
• ⁠Demonstrated interest in applied social science research, real-world impact, and the translation of research into practical interventions, programmes, policies, or design solutions
• Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods, including survey design, interviews, focus groups, observations, workshops, or field-based research
• Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise good judgement and initiative in complex real-world settings
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present research insights clearly to academic, policy, practitioner, and community audiences
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within interdisciplinary and partner-facing teams
• Interest in community engagement, social innovation, urban issues, sustainability, public health, and/or policy development
• Adaptability and willingness to learn new methods, tools, and approaches, including digital platforms, spatial data, or AI-enabled research tools where relevant

The following would be advantageous:

• Experience conducting fieldwork and community-based research
• Experiencein programme evaluation, policy analysis, or participatory research

Job Description

Positions are available for Research Engineers, Research Assistants, and Ph.D. students in the research group of Prof. Soh Siow Ling, at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).  

The group’s general program of research involves the coupling of organic materials, mechanical forces, and electrostatics at different interfaces (e.g., solid, liquid, or gas). This coupling is currently greatly under-explored and poorly understood in science. At the same time, the coupling gives rise to many fascinating new natural phenomena for exciting fundamental discoveries and development of impactful and original technologies. 

The general approach of the group is to conduct original programs and new directions of research with strong fundamental science. The group is highly interdisciplinary and involves engineering (e.g., fluid mechanics), materials science, chemistry, and physics. Different organic materials are used, including polymers (e.g., stimuli-responsive polymers), hydrogels, and covalent organic frameworks (COFs). 

One project involves an original system that harvests water energy from nature (e.g., rain and rivers) and directly generates electricity by solid-liquid charge separation with high energy conversion efficiency. Other projects involve clearing virus-laden atmospheric aerosols and preventing the spread of infectious diseases (e.g., COVID-19) and development of clean surfaces that do not adhere any dust on them. Another research involves stimuli-responsive polymers for small molecular separation, smart delivery, and intelligent soft machines.

A recent exciting and emerging field from our group is the development of novel mechanocatalysts for performing mechanochemical reactions with high energy conversion efficiency. Harvesting energy from mechanical forces of nature (e.g., wind or water flows) is a novel and sustainable approach to performing chemical reactions. 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is preferably someone open-minded to conducting original fields of research, independent, and hardworking. Because the research of the group is highly interdisciplinary and many projects in different disciplines are ongoing, candidates with a Bachelor’s degree from a wide range of backgrounds will be considered for different projects, including engineering (e.g., chemical, mechanical, etc), materials science, chemistry, and physics.

Job Description

• Responsible for MEP Design, taking off BOQ, sourcing the quotation and prepare quotation.
• Lead the development and submission of high-quality M&E tenders, ensuring compliance with all client requirements and deadlines.
• Attend site visit for tender briefing.
• Interpretation of tender specifications, client requirement, drawings and any other relevant documents; not limited to Project Presentation, Schedule of Rates, Technical Data, Risk Assessment, Bill of Quantity and documents needed for Tender Submissions.
• Understand how to do MEP design to comply with Singapore Standard
• Liaise with suppliers and contractors to get proposals/quotations and carry out evaluation
• Conversant with Singapore building codes and regulations
• Provide guidance and support to project teams in the implementation of successful M&E practices.
• Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures throughout the tender process.

Job Requirements:

• Minin Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering
• At least 3 years of relevant working experience in Interior Fitting Out M&E Works
• Preferably have knowledge on how to prepare M&E technical design, technical write-up, prepare tender specifications and presentation slide for tender interviews
• Strong in Tender Presentation Skill
• Highly self-motivated, good working attitude with high level of professionalism & integrity

The candidate will work closely with the research team to develop advanced methods in Reinforcement Learning under Uncertainties for Reliable Autonomous Decision-Making in Finance. 

Primary responsibilities will include:
•    Data Management: Utilize proficiency in SQL, NoSQL, and vector databases to collect, clean, and manage data for research projects.
•    Research Assistance: Collaborate on research initiatives focused on decision-making in finance, applying quantitative finance and econometric methodologies to analyze data and develop models.
•    Machine Learning: Apply expertise in reinforcement learning and traditional machine learning algorithms to develop predictive models and optimal strategies.
•    Programming: Utilize skills in Python, TypeScript, and JavaScript, along with frameworks like PyTorch, to implement and test quantitative models.
•    Financial Expertise: Apply knowledge of finance, especially in risk management and equity markets, to contribute valuable insights to research projects.
•    Communicate research outcomes through peer-reviewed publications and other scholarly dissemination channels.

Qualifications / Discipline:

•    PhD in Mathematics/Statistics/CS. 

Skills:
