As the founding technical pillar of this 0-to-1 project, you will take complete ownership of the AMR mobile base system—from concept and prototype to large-scale commercial deployment. You will serve as the core technical hub connecting high-level navigation software, low-level hardware chassis, electrical design, sensor integration, and cross-team coordination with our existing drone division. As the product matures and scales, you will naturally transition into building and leading the future robotics team.

 Responsibilities:

●       Full-Lifecycle Ownership: Take complete charge of the AMR mobile base system, driving it from Proof of Concept (POC) and prototype development to large-scale deployment in complex indoor retail warehouse environments.

●       Air-Ground Coordination & Payload Control: Develop and optimize control software to coordinate communication and dispatch between the AMR base and the onboard drone (payload), ensuring accurate command execution and seamless collaboration.

Requirements:

The Senior Engineer, Process Development & Sustaining will lead the development, optimization, and sustaining of manufacturing processes for WD's HDD storage products. This is a technically deep, cross-functional role requiring strong foundation in chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering.

You will drive process characterization, chemical/material qualification, and yield improvement initiatives while ensuring manufacturing processes remain stable, compliant, and cost-competitive. You are expected to operate with high technical autonomy, interface with global R&D and process teams, and mentor junior engineers on the Penang floor.

This role is ideal for a Master's, or Bachelor's graduate in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science who is passionate about translating lab-scale science into high-volume manufacturing solutions.

This role requires strong technical expertise in sputtering systems, vacuum technology, automation, and advanced manufacturing processes, along with the ability to influence cross-functional organizations, mentor engineering teams, and lead large-scale strategic projects across multiple manufacturing areas.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead strategic equipment engineering initiatives to improve equipment reliability, manufacturing efficiency, OEE performance, and long-term operational sustainability.
• Lead complex equipment troubleshooting and advanced root cause analysis for critical manufacturing issues, implementing robust corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop and standardize best-in-class engineering practices, maintenance strategies, and equipment performance optimization methodologies across manufacturing operations.
• Lead major equipment upgrades, system redesigns, automation integration, and machine conversion programs to enhance manufacturing capability and productivity.
• Provide technical leadership for new equipment development, factory expansion projects, equipment qualification, commissioning, and production ramp activities.
• Collaborate closely with Process Engineering, Yield Engineering, Production, Quality, Facilities, and Global Engineering teams to achieve manufacturing and technology objectives.
• Drive predictive maintenance, reliability engineering, and data analytics initiatives using SPC, equipment monitoring systems, and advanced failure analysis techniques.
• Lead engineering evaluations for new technologies, automation solutions, AI-driven manufacturing applications, and Industry 4.0 initiatives to improve operational performance.
• Establish equipment standards, technical specifications, engineering governance, and operational guidelines to ensure consistency across manufacturing operations.
• Provide expert guidance in vacuum systems, plasma generation, sputtering processes, automation controls, robotics, and equipment architecture optimization.
• Lead supplier technical engagements, OEM partnerships, and external engineering collaborations to support technology development, equipment enhancement, and problem resolution.
• Mentor and develop engineers, technical specialists, and engineering leaders by strengthening technical competencies, leadership capabilities, and knowledge-sharing culture.
• Drive cost reduction initiatives through equipment optimization, spare part management, energy efficiency improvements, and operational excellence programs.
• Lead engineering reviews, failure analysis discussions, and technical presentations for senior management and global engineering organizations.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, environmental requirements, and industry standards related to equipment operation and engineering activities.
• Promote continuous improvement culture through Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies, and engineering innovation programs.

· To audit sputter parameters and practice periodically, include online SPC and procedure

conformance.

· To lead sputter process related issues trouble shooting (common causes), work closely with shift

process team in sputter process sustaining, trouble shooting & improvement in order to achieve

sputter utilization (down time), yield & quality goal.

· To lead Sputter Process Improvement Projects (SU/STT/Cost/Quality/PPH & others), which

include new products/machines/process qualification.

· To lead, supervise and coach/train process tech, include engineering specialist and characterize

technicians.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

· Responsible for sputter process related issues trouble shooting (common causes), work closely

with Shift process team in sputter process sustaining, trouble shooting & improvement in order to

achieve sputter utilization (down time) & quality goal.

· Responsible to lead, supervise and coach/train process tech, include engineering specialist and

characterize technicians. Responsible to train and share PMR/DS sputter process and yield

improvement knowledge with the team.

· Responsible for sputter parameters monitoring, include online SPC monitoring and procedure

conformance.

· Responsible for sputter machine start-up include process characterize (new products & process

changes).

· Responsible for new products/machines/process qualification.

· Responsible for sputter process improvement projects (SU/STT/Cost/Quality/PPH & others).

Others include FMEA.

· Understand and accept responsibility for performing jobs safely

· Follow safety and health rules

· Responsible to assist in sputter yield related issues trouble shooting (common causes). Work

closely with Anelva yield team in sputter yield sustaining, trouble shooting & improvement in order

to achieve sputter yield goal. This includes 0725 Operation Yield Improvement.

· Other supervisor assigned task

Improve Media magnetic baseline: ACC% and to enable process stability and repeatability via recipe tuning and optimization. Responsible for new product qualifications.  

We are looking for a software engineering intern to develop and maintain test management software for our HDD Validation Engineering team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop features for our self-hosted web portal (MERN-stack) and microservice backends (FastAPI).
• Design and implement automation solutions for tester monitoring and data analytics.
• Help establish holistic software quality assurance processes (CI/CD, E2E testing).
• Troubleshoot and debug issues within test environments, providing timely resolutions.
• Participate in code reviews and maintain clean, well-documented code.
