Job Purpose

This role is responsible for leading the end-to-end air freight (mainly air freight with sea freight in cross-modal coordination) operations across Southeast Asia, driving strategic growth, ensuring operational excellence, maintaining regulatory compliance, and leading high-performing teams. The Regional Airfreight Director will own the regional P&L, implement operational best practices, and foster strong customer and partner relationships to achieve business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Regional Leadership & Strategy

• Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for Southeast Asia air freight operations, ensuring alignment with the company’s global objectives and long-term growth plans.
• Drive revenue growth, margin improvement, and market expansion across key SEA markets, identifying opportunities to strengthen our market position.
• Identify new trade lanes, strategic partnerships, and operational efficiencies to enhance competitiveness and drive business sustainability.

Operational Excellence

• Oversee end-to-end air freight, ocean freight (supporting cross-modal coordination), and customs brokerage operations across all SEA country offices.
• Ensure service reliability, regulatory compliance, and effective cost control across all operational touchpoints, maintaining high service standards.
• Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), key performance indicators (KPIs), and performance dashboards to enhance operational visibility and accountability.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives across warehousing, documentation, and freight handling processes to optimize efficiency and reduce operational risks.
• Drive the achievement and exceeding of all operational KPIs related to quality, which directly contributes to improved conversion rates, operational expenditure (opex) control, and productivity gains.

Customs & Compliance

• Ensure strict compliance with local and international trade regulations, customs laws, and industry standards across all SEA jurisdictions.
• Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with customs authorities and regulatory agencies to facilitate smooth operations and mitigate compliance risks.
• Proactively identify and mitigate operational and legal risks across different countries, ensuring the company’s operations adhere to all applicable rules and regulations.

Commercial & Customer Engagement

• Partner closely with the regional sales teams to support key account management, large tenders, and customer retention initiatives.
• Maintain executive-level relationships with strategic customers and partners, addressing their needs and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
• Support the development of pricing strategies and participate in key contract negotiations to balance profitability and customer value.
• Facilitate effective communication with branch operations to ensure operational performance and KPIs are consistently met or exceeded.

Team Leadership & Talent Development

• Build, mentor, and lead a team of country managers and operations professionals across the Southeast Asia region, setting clear goals and expectations.
• Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and operational discipline, driving team engagement and performance.
• Develop succession plans and build leadership bench strength within the SEA region to ensure long-term organizational sustainability.
• Guide and support implementation staff to ensure successful customer onboarding projects, including the review, development, and deployment of Operating Guidelines.

Financial Management

• Own the regional P&L performance, setting financial targets and driving actions to achieve profitability goals.
• Manage regional budgets, cost structures, and capital investments, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost optimization.
• Drive profitability while maintaining service excellence, balancing financial performance with customer and operational priorities.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 10-12 years of experience in the freight forwarding and logistics industry, with 5+ years of regional (SEA) senior leadership experience in air freight operations.
• Proven experience overseeing end-to-end air freight, ocean freight (cross-modal), and customs brokerage operations.
• Strong strategic and execution skills with a track record in growth, margins, and efficiency
• Deep knowledge of Southeast Asia air freight markets, trade lanes, and customs regulations
• Experience implementing SOPs, KPIs, and performance dashboards
• Proven leadership and team development capabilities
• Strong commercial acumen with experience in sales support and contract negotiation
• Solid financial management skills, including P&L and budgeting
• Excellent communication skills. This role requires communication with stakeholders in China, USA, and South East Asia.
