About Us

Bright Point Capital Pte Ltd is a registered fund management company in Singapore regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). We are currently looking to expand our research and investment capabilities for one of our funds.

The investment mandate focuses on trading financial instruments across different asset classes and global exchanges. We are looking for a strong quantitative researcher to support systematic strategy research, model validation, and data-driven decision making.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

• Work closely with experienced traders and developers to research, test, and validate systematic trading models
• Apply mathematics, statistics, machine learning, and scientific research methods to large-scale financial market data
• Support the trading team with rigorous research evidence; trading direction, strategy prioritization, and live deployment decisions will remain led by the trading team
• Prior finance or trading experience is not required

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Translate market observations and trading ideas into testable research hypotheses.
• Research statistical and machine learning methods for forecasting, classification, signal generation, and pattern detection in noisy sequential data.
• Evaluate modern ML approaches, including deep learning, sequence models, and attention-based models, while benchmarking against simpler statistical baselines.
• Build reusable research tools for data cleaning, feature generation, model comparison, experiment tracking, and result analysis.
• Communicate research results clearly, including assumptions, limitations, risks, negative findings, and reasons a model may fail in live use.

REQUIREMENTS

• PhD preferred, or exceptional MSc/BSc, in mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science, electrical engineering, operations research, machine learning, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Strong foundation in probability, statistics, optimization, linear algebra, machine learning, and time-series or stochastic modelling.
• Strong programming ability in Python and experience with scientific computing or machine learning libraries such as NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow, or similar tools.
• Experience working with noisy real-world data, large datasets, simulations, or empirical research problems.
• Strong problem-solving ability, intellectual honesty, attention to detail, and willingness to challenge model results rather than accept them at face value.

• Assist in managing database
• Assist in monitoring and running existing algorithms to trade across multiple asset classes
• Review and improve on existing trading models

Requirements

• PhD preferred, or exceptional MSc/BSc, in mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science, electrical engineering, operations research, machine learning, or a related quantitative discipline.

Responsibilities

• Conduct fundamental and quantitative analysis across the energy value chain, including but not limited to crude oil, refined products, natural gas, LNG, power, and renewable energy markets
• Monitor developments in dry bulk commodity markets, including iron ore, coal, bauxite, grains, fertilizers, and minor bulks, and assess their impact on seaborne trade and freight rates
• Track vessel supply dynamics, fleet growth, orderbooks, scrapping activity, port congestion, ballast positioning, fleet utilization, and shipping regulations affecting freight markets
• Analyze key freight market indicators including vessel movements, cargo flows, ton-mile demand, voyage economics, bunker costs, port operations, and freight derivatives (FFA) markets
• Utilize AI tools and data analytics techniques to enhance market research, automate workflows, and generate actionable insights
• Build and maintain datasets, dashboards, models, and analytical reports to support trading, investment, and risk decisions
• Perform market intelligence gathering from structured and unstructured sources, including shipping databases, vessel tracking systems, broker reports, port data, trade statistics, and news flows
• Develop freight forecasts, supply-demand balances, scenario analyses, and trade flow models across major dry bulk routes and vessel classes
• Collaborate closely with trading, chartering, operations, risk, and technology teams to improve market intelligence and analytical frameworks
• Prepare concise reports, presentations, and market commentary highlighting freight market developments, risks, and trading opportunities

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Maritime Studies, Engineering, Science, Supply Chain, Transportation, or related disciplines
• 2–5 years of relevant experience in dry bulk shipping, freight trading, commodities research, vessel operations, chartering, shipping analytics, or related fields
• Strong understanding of dry bulk freight market fundamentals, including vessel supply-demand dynamics, trade flows, freight pricing mechanisms, and shipping market structure
• Knowledge of major dry bulk commodities, global trade routes, port infrastructure, and maritime industry developments
• Familiarity with freight derivatives (FFA), voyage economics, vessel tracking platforms, or shipping databases is preferred
• Familiarity with AI tools, large language models, or data-driven analytical workflows is preferred
• Proficiency in Excel, Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or other analytical and visualization tools is advantageous
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to translate complex market information into commercial insights
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic trading environment with strong attention to detail and commercial awareness
• Proficiency in Excel, Python, SQL, or data visualization tools is advantageous

Theme International Trading is a Singapore collective investment fund that invests and trades in listed financial instruments to achieve high risk-adjusted returns.

Responsibilities

• Support daily monitoring of trading activities and open positions to ensure adherence to risk limits
• Assist in reconciling and validating traders’ records and P&L against clearing broker statements, and flag discrepancies
• Perform basic risk checks and highlight unusual exposures or potential risks
• Maintain risk logs, reports, and documentation
• Work closely with trading, operations, and financial modelling teams to support risk control and operation processes
• Assist in reviewing and improving existing frameworks and procedures
• Support coordination with technology and quant teams to enhance risk monitoring tools and platforms
• Other ad-hoc back office operational duties

Qualifications & Skills
