Centre Manager (Student Development)
About the Role
Our client is seeking for a people-focused leader who believes that meaningful growth happens when individuals are given the right balance of guidance, support and opportunities to develop.
As Centre Manager, you will play a key role in shaping both the student and staff experience. Working closely with senior leadership, you will help strengthen centre operations, develop student mentors, improve practices and build an environment where students are encouraged to grow, explore and thrive.
This is more than an operational role. We are looking for someone who enjoys developing people, building capable teams and turning ideas into practical solutions. You are someone who is comfortable bringing structure to a dynamic environment while recognising that lasting improvements are achieved through relationships, trust and consistency.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
Lead, coach and develop a team of student mentors, helping them build confidence, strengthen their capabilities and grow in their ability to support students effectively.
Foster a culture of continuous learning, reflection and improvement within the team.
Provide regular guidance, feedback and coaching to help team members navigate challenges and achieve their potential.
Identify development opportunities and support the growth of future leaders within the organisation.
Create an environment where team members feel supported, empowered and accountable for their work.
Student Experience & Engagement
Work closely with student mentors to create a safe, engaging and positive environment that supports student growth and development.
Support the team in managing student behaviours and challenges through practical, relationship-based approaches that encourage positive outcomes.
Monitor student engagement and identify opportunities to improve participation, learning experiences and overall programme effectiveness.
Partner with the team to develop strategies that balance structure, consistency and flexibility based on students' developmental needs.
Help create an environment where students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning, build confidence and develop positive habits.
Operations & Continuous Improvement
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the centre and ensure programmes are delivered effectively.
Review existing practices, identify areas for improvement and implement practical solutions that enhance both the student and staff experience.
Work closely with senior leadership to operationalise ideas, initiatives and long-term plans.
Develop and maintain systems, processes and operating standards that support consistency, quality and accountability.
Take ownership of operational challenges and work collaboratively with stakeholders to identify sustainable solutions.
Support reporting, documentation and compliance requirements as required.
Stakeholder Management
Build trusted relationships with students, parents, staff and external stakeholders.
Communicate effectively and professionally while managing differing expectations and perspectives.
Partner with families to support student development and maintain a positive centre experience.
Serve as a key point of contact for operational and programme-related matters.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will likely be someone who:
Enjoys helping others grow and finds fulfilment in seeing both students and team members develop over time.
Believes that strong teams are built through coaching, support and trust rather than authority alone.
Understands that a positive environment is created through relationships, consistency, clear expectations and mutual respect.
Is comfortable balancing structure with flexibility, recognising that different individuals may require different approaches to succeed.
Enjoys identifying challenges, experimenting with new ideas and continuously improving existing practices.
Is naturally organised and able to bring clarity, structure and direction to complex situations.
Takes ownership of issues and works collaboratively with others to find practical solutions.
Is confident working with both children and adults and able to adapt their communication style accordingly.
Has a genuine interest in developing people and building stronger teams.
Requirements
Diploma or Degree in Education, Psychology, Youth Development, Social Services, Business Management or a related field.
Experience leading teams within education, student care, enrichment, youth development, community services or similar environments.
Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring or developing team members.
Strong interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to manage both operational responsibilities and people development priorities.
Experience implementing improvements, initiatives or operational changes will be advantageous.
Why this role?
This is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in developing both students and future leaders. You will have the chance to shape programmes, strengthen teams, improve practices and contribute to an environment where growth, learning and continuous improvement are valued.
