Job Description
An Aquarium Technician is required to support facility and aquarium operations, at the St John's Island National Marine Laboratory (SJINML), Singapore’s only offshore marine research facility. The job also entails supporting coral culture operations at SJINML under the 100K Corals Initiative, a programme launched by the National Parks Board to scale up existing coral restoration efforts and plant 100,000 corals in Singapore’s waters over the next ten years and beyond.
Duties & Responsibilities
i) Support coral culture and husbandry operations for the 100K Corals Initiative at SJINML
ii) Work closely with a dynamic team to operate and maintain the coral culture facility and other associated aquarium/infrastructure at SJINML. Duties include but not limited to:
- Maintenance, monitoring and troubleshooting of aquaria systems, sensors
- Safety management
- Assisting facility upgrading works
- Training/guiding facility users
- Liaising with vendors
iii) Assist with administrative matters and preparing regular progress reports
iv) Assist with outreach activities and programmes involving visitors and volunteers
v) Any other duty assigned by the supervisor
Requirements
- Minimum NITEC / NTC 2 / Diploma in any relevant field preferably Aquaculture, Marine Science or Veterinary Technology.
- Basic hands-on technical knowledge in aquarium systems (electrical, mechanical and piping works)
- Strong interest in corals, marine biology and knowledge of Singapore marine life.
- Class 3 driving licence preferred
- Candidate must be able to swim.
- Job location is on St John's Island and travel to work includes ferry rides.
- As the job requires frequent interaction with visitors and volunteers, good communication skills and a positive attitude is a must.
- Must be willing to work on some weekends and public holidays if necessary.
- Candidate should be self-motivated and able to work in a dynamic team.
