Job summary

• Oversees planning, coordination and execution of company transportation and logistics operations to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective movement of goods and people. Develops policies and routes, manages drivers and carriers, maintains compliance, and continuously improves efficiency and service levels.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and manage inbound/outbound transportation: route optimization, load planning, scheduling, and carrier selection.
• Supervise drivers, dispatchers, and transportation staff; recruit, train, coach and evaluate performance.
• Negotiate rates and service agreements with carriers, brokers and third-party logistics providers.
• Monitor daily operations, resolve service issues, delays, and escalations to meet delivery targets.
• Ensure regulatory compliance (DOT, FMCSA, IATA, ADR, local regulations) and maintain required documentation (logs, permits, licenses).
• Manage fleet maintenance schedules, safety programs, vehicle inspections and fuel/asset utilization.
• Implement and maintain transportation management systems (TMS), telematics/GPS and route-tracking tools; ensure accurate shipment and carrier data in systems.
• Develop and manage transportation budget; track costs, identify savings and report on KPIs.
• Coordinate with warehouse, procurement, customer service and sales for demand planning and delivery commitments.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3–7 years’ experience in transportation/logistics management (adjust based on seniority).
• Experience managing carrier relationships, fleet operations, or dispatch teams.
• Working knowledge of transportation regulations and safety compliance.
