Responsibilities
Prepare and perform all surgical procedures in a sterile manner while strictly observing principles of asepsis and sterility.
Coordinate and prepare surgical equipment, instruments and consumables according to the daily surgical list and surgeons’ preferences.
Conduct full counts of instruments, swabs and accessories before the start of surgery, after the closure of any major cavity, and at the end of the procedure.
Ensure safe handling and disposal of sharps and contaminated waste in accordance with hospital safety and infection control protocols.
Assist in the administration and monitoring of anaesthetic care for general, regional and deep sedation anaesthesia.
Perform scrub, circulating and recovery nurse duties during surgical procedures.
Provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care to patients and ensure smooth patient transfer to the recovery area.
Maintain proper housekeeping standards in accordance with Infection Control policies and operating theatre protocols.
Assist in the management and maintenance of Operating Theatre facilities and equipment.
Support the cleaning and turnover of operating rooms between surgical procedures.
Demonstrate competence as a Scrub Nurse across various surgical specialties including ENT, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Dental, Ophthalmology and Obstetrics & Gynaecology (O&G).
Guide and support junior nurses and new staff in operating theatre procedures and best practices.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with safety and clinical standards.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager or Management.
Requirements
Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognised institution approved by the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB).
Registered Nurse with a valid SNB practising certificate.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in an Operating Theatre setting (experience as scrub or circulating nurse preferred).
Demonstrated experience in handling multi-disciplinary surgical cases (ENT, Plastic, Urology, Dental, Ophthalmology, O&G).
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple surgical cases effectively.
Proactive, team-oriented and supportive in implementing new initiatives and clinical improvements.
Able to commit to 2 rotating shifts (Weekdays: 7.00am – 7.00pm / Saturday: 7.00am – 1.00pm).
