Feedstock Analyst

to our Global Optimization and Trading team in Singapore.

You will focus on developing and maintaining robust analysis tools and providing short and mid term market analysis that supports Global feedstock leads in their decision making and trading book management. In this job you will work closely with Global feedstock leads, Sourcing managers,  Market intelligence and Middle office.

In our team, you will join a group of six biofuel feedstock professionals located in Switzerland, Netherlands and Singapore. Your main focus will be on vegoils and advanced waste and residue markets. Together with your expertise, we can do meaningful work to drive Neste forward.

Your role in our team

• Develop and maintain market analysis tools and models
• Provide market and price analysis, focusing on vegoils and advanced waste and residue markets 
• Support global feedstock lead through analysis
• Track and monitor global feedstock flows, arbitrages, S&D etc.
• Generate and gather feedstock market intelligence that can be channelled to the business
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure an efficient and timely flow of information

Keys to success in this role / The best combination to succeed in this role

• Bachelor degree in economics, finance, mathematics or engineering (Masters preferred)
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in biofuels industry, commodities or energy 
• Previous experience as market analyst in any other relevant industry
• Advanced Excel skills and robust analytical skills mandatory
• Experience in models development, programming (e.g. VBA, Python, JAVA) and maintenance of database
• Proactive innovative attitude
• Good organizational skills and strong attention to detail, focus on accuracy of information
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
• Experience of working in a fast paced environment is beneficial
• Responsible attitude and safety-oriented mindset

Your role in our team

• Responsible for business process development and continual improvement within the region or across multiple regions.

• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in business projects, leading process design, documentation and the end-to-end implementation of process-related changes.

Your role in our team

• Introducing elemental and inorganic analytics to the APAC R&D center and being responsible for analyses of a wide variety of samples, analytical method development and contribute to maintenance of laboratory infrastructure.

• Take part in the set up and the development of the analytical laboratory tasks, such as instrument installation, verification/validation and the equipment maintenance and investments. 

• Work in cross-functional teams with other researchers, development engineers and project managers from R&D and stakeholders in e.g. Renewable Products’ supply and the Production, and also with external partners. Our work combines accountability, cooperation, and the desire to develop and renew. Working safely at all times is essential to all of us.

• Holistic responsibility of inorganic analytics activities, reporting, acting possibly as project manager, with R&D mindset.

• Records raw experimental data and prepares spreadsheets for a review. Performs data analysis, interpreting and identifying substances and/or properties in material complexes.

• Be the leading figure in APAC IC Inorganic team to mentor and lead the team into pursuing the best inorganic research analytic in the region.

Keys to success in this role / The best combination to succeed in this role

• M. Sc. / M. S. / Ph.D in Materials Chemistry / Chemistry / Inorganic Chemistry / Analytical Chemistry or a related field from a reputable university. For M. Sc. / M. S. candidate, extensive experience is a must.

• A minimum of 6 years working experience with wide competence in inorganic analytics would be required. 

• Hands-on experience experience in inorganic chemistry, method development, proficiency  testing, and solid/liquid materials characterization techniques including but not limited to;

  • ICP-MS/MS, ICP-OES, CHN, coulometry, XRD, XRF, SEM, FT-IR.

  • Experience in method development and validation. 

  • Solid knowledge and experience in research and troubleshooting.

• A subtle presentation skill: Adept at bridging the gap between high-level chemical analytics and actionable business insights, making the 'invisible' chemistry visible and appealing to all.

• An experience and/or background in artificial intelligence / machine learning would be advantageous.

• Fluent English language skills.

• Run inorganic analytical testing like acid digestion, preparing standard solutions, and running pre-set and/or new methods on instruments such as ICP-MS, IC and other wide range inorganic analysis.

• Records raw experimental data and prepares spreadsheets for a review. Performs data analysis, interpreting and identifying substances and/or properties in material complexes.

• Develop and validate new inorganic analytical methods for various samples.

• Acts as a subject matter expert who can design experiments/testing and troubleshoot complex instrumental failures and challenging data processing.

• Conduct risk assessments for new chemical protocols, monitor overall lab compliance and safety, in addition to managing bench-level safety and safety responsibilities in HSSEQ.

• Several years working experience with wide competence in inorganic analytics would be required.

  • Ion Chromatography (IC)

  • Physicochemical properties measurements; Moisture Content, Slip Melting Point (SMP), Iodine Value (IV), Free Fatty Acids (FFA), Density, Flash Point etc.

• Practical experience in wet chemistry: proficiency in titrations, gravimetric analysis, and complex acid digestions (e.g., microwave or hot plate).

• Very good understanding in inorganic chemistry, chemical instrumentation and chemical analytics, method validation and R&D project work.

• For data analysis, able to interpret complex spectra/findings, perform statistical validation, and utilize LIMS.

• Proficiency in complex chemical analytics.

• Fluent English language skills.
