Role Overview

The Operations Specialist role provides end‑to‑end exposure to core hedge fund operational functions, with responsibilities spanning Middle Office & Fund Accounting and Compliance.

This role is open to both fresh graduates and experienced hires. Responsibilities and level of supervision will be calibrated based on the candidate’s prior experience, with a common expectation of independent role ownership by Year 3.

The role is designed to develop professionals who can operate independently within a licensed fund management environment and contribute meaningfully to the firm’s operational, compliance, and governance framework.

Role Structure and Responsibilities

1. Middle Office & Fund Accounting

·      Support daily NAV and P&L review processes to ensure accuracy and completeness

·      Validate trades, corporate actions, and lifecycle events

·      Perform position, cash, and performance reconciliations

·      Liaise with fund administrators, prime brokers, and counterparties

·      Identify, investigate, and resolve breaks in a timely and controlled manner

·      Maintain appropriate documentation to support audit and control requirements

2. Compliance

·      Conduct daily and post‑trade compliance monitoring

·      Support ongoing surveillance of trading and research activities

·      Maintain compliance logs, monitoring records, and internal documentation

·      Assist with internal audits, external audits, and regulatory reviews

·      Support the implementation and maintenance of compliance policies and procedures

Progression and Development

Years 1–2: Integration and Functional Rotation

·      Build operational proficiency across middle office and compliance functions

·      Execute day‑to‑day operational routines with increasing independence

·      Develop a strong understanding of how investment activities interface with operational and compliance requirements

·      Gradually take ownership of defined processes

Year 3 Onwards: Independent Ownership and Broadening Exposure

By Year 3, the Operations Specialist is expected to:

·      Operate independently across assigned middle office and compliance responsibilities

·      Act as a reliable point of contact for internal stakeholders and external service providers

·      Support the COO on operational and governance matters as required

At this stage, the firm encourages exposure to adjacent areas such as:

·      Investor and management reporting

·      Portfolio and risk analytics

·      Marketing and client communications support

·      Operational process improvement and automation initiatives

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Required

·      Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline

·      Strong attention to detail and execution discipline

·      Willingness to support Japanese market trading hours and follow the Japan trading calendar

·      Proficiency in Japanese (spoken and written) to support communication with Japanese stakeholders, counterparties, and/or review of Japanese-language materials.

·      Professional attitude suited to a regulated fund management environment

Preferred

·      Prior experience in fund accounting, middle office, compliance, or asset management operations

·      Familiarity with hedge fund workflows, service providers, or regulatory expectations

·      Ability to work effectively in a small, high‑accountability team

Role Overview

The Junior Execution Trader role provides direct exposure to the execution function within a hedge fund, supporting the CIO in implementing investment decisions across Japanese equities.

This role sits at the intersection of portfolio management, trading, and market microstructure, with responsibilities spanning trade execution, market monitoring, and trade lifecycle coordination. The position is suited for both fresh graduates and candidates with relevant experience, with responsibilities scaled based on prior exposure and performance.

The role is designed to develop a disciplined and reliable execution professional who can independently manage order flow, interact with counterparties, and contribute to best execution practices within a regulated fund management environment.

Role Structure and Responsibilities

1. Trade Execution & Order Management

·      Execute equity orders in accordance with CIO instructions and strategy requirements

·      Manage order entry, amendments, and allocations across OMS/EMS systems

·      Monitor live orders and market conditions to optimise execution outcomes

·      Apply judgment on execution tactics within defined guidelines

·      Ensure timely and accurate booking of trades

2. Market Monitoring & Execution Support

·      Monitor Japanese equity markets, including price action and liquidity

·      Provide real-time feedback to the CIO on market conditions and execution progress

·      Track order status, fills, and outstanding exposures

·      Coordinate with brokers to source liquidity and manage execution risk

3. Trade Lifecycle & Post-Trade Coordination 

·      Verify trade details against broker confirmations and internal records

·      Liaise with middle office, fund administrators, and brokers to resolve issues 

·      Assist in monitoring settlement cycles and handling trade exceptions 

·      Maintain accurate execution records and audit trails 

4. Broker & Counterparty Interaction 

·      Develop working relationships with broker trading desks 

·      Support evaluation of broker performance and execution quality 

·      Coordinate trade inquiries and allocations with counterparties 

5. Risk Control & Compliance 

·      Adhere strictly to trading limits and internal compliance policies 

·      Support pre-trade and real-time risk checks 

·      Maintain discipline around MNPI awareness 

·      Ensure proper documentation aligned with regulatory expectations 

Progression and Development

Years 1–2:

·      Build core competency in order execution and trading systems

·      Develop familiarity with Japanese market structure

·      Execute trades under supervision with increasing autonomy

Year 3 Onwards:

By Year 3, the Operations Specialist is expected to:

·      Execute trades independently

·      Act as a dependable execution partner to the CIO

·      Manage broker relationships and contribute to best execution outcomes

·      Support improvements in execution processes

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Required

·      Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or related discipline

·      Strong attention to detail and ability to operate under pressure

·      Willingness to support Japanese market trading hours

·      Proficiency in Japanese (spoken and written)

·      High level of discipline and professionalism

·      Prior experience in trading or capital markets

·      Familiarity with equities trading and OMS/EMS platforms
