Job Description

Purpose of the post

The PI lab aims to develop nucleic acids nanobiotechnology for RNA therapy and gene editing. Optimizing the performance of health systems is essential to ensuring the wellbeing and longevity of populations worldwide. Singapore is particularly well placed to lead research in this field as its health system has been consistently ranked as one of the best in the world based in independent evaluation with the Global Burden of Disease data. The Centre for Research in Health Systems Performance (CRiHSP) aims to advance research in this area within the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of the National University of Singapore (NUS) as the leading centre for research in health systems in Asia with the following core functions:

1. Research: empirical and methodological research and evidence synthesis on health systems performance with a particular focus on Value Based Healthcare.
2. Health policy intelligence: health policy impact analysis aimed at policy makers, service providers, researchers, and the wider public.

The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Assistant for Geroprotectors in Reproductive Ageing in Professor Brian Kennedy’s Centre for Healthy Longevity (CHL) lab in Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. CHL focuses on translational research targeting healthy aging, with particular emphasis on the use of repurposed drugs and natural compounds to improve reproductive healthspan. Model organisms include Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) and mice. This position is offered on a one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding.

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and study team members to ensure the rigorous execution of experimental protocols and timely progression of project milestones. The RA’s role will be to screen for compounds that will increase reproductive health using the C. elegans model, and to study the effects of the compounds with aged mice models.

• Performing weaning and basic phenotyping
• Conducting downstream biochemical and molecular assays

1. Carry out literature reviews, data analysis and detailed documentation of experimental results and project progress;
2. Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and documentation practices in accordance with institutional policies and procedures;
3. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the Principal Investigator.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

1. Have a Bachelor’s degree with good results in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or related disciplines, with a strong academic track record;
2. Be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, exercise sound judgment and handle multiple tasks with precision and accountability;
3. have strong organizational and documentation skills, attention to detail and scientific curiosity
4. Be a highly motivated team player with good communication skills, and willingness to learn and take initiative;
5. Previous experiences with laboratory animals, particularly mice, is strongly preferred. The role involves extensive hands-on work with mice.

Job Description

Job Summary: The Research Assistant will support research and engineering activities for developing analytical workflows by using AI foundation models, and demonstrating how workflows extend human capabilities by uncovering patterns, simulating scenarios, and synthesizing information across spatial, temporal, and semantic dimensions. You will help design, implement, and evaluate analytical workflows; build and maintain software prototypes and experimental testbeds; and assist with data, documentation, and stakeholder engagement. This role provides hands-on experience across AI research and practical deployment at IDS.

Responsibilities:

• Design and write robust, readable, and reusable code components and applications to implement state-of-the-art research outcomes in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and big data.
• Perform data engineering tasks including data cleansing and processing for analysis of real-world datasets.
• Assists with the editing and preparation of manuscripts, reports and presentations.
• Participate in presentations and demos for exhibiting work at appropriate events.

Requirements

• Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science with a focus in AI, Machine Learning and Big Data.
• Solid programming and application development skills (Python preferred) and experience with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and modern development practices (Git, testing, CI/CD).
• Ability to develop robust systems and prototypes with fast turn-around.
• Possesses research background with ability to read and understand methodologies in research papers.
• Fluent in English and good team-player.
• Prior AI expertise with knowledge and interest in spatio-temporal foundation models and urban data analytics is preferred.
