The Automation / Robotic Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, programming, configuration, and deployment of advanced robotic and humanoid robotic systems within a manufacturing environment. This role involves hands-on development of robotic applications, integration with MES/PLC/IoT platforms, ensuring system reliability, and ensuring compliance with global and local safety standards. In this role, a typical day will include:

• Develop, configure, and optimize robotic applications (articulated robots, collaborative robots, and humanoid robot platforms).
• Create and maintain robot programs in vendor-specific languages (e.g., KUKA KRL, Fanuc TP, ABB RAPID, URScript) and humanoid robot SDKs (e.g., NVIDIA Isaac, Unitree, Boston Dynamics API, or similar).

Job Description
The Senior Engineer, Process Development & Sustaining will lead the development, optimization, and sustaining of manufacturing processes for WD's HDD storage products. This is a technically deep, cross-functional role requiring strong foundation in chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering.

You will drive process characterization, chemical/material qualification, and yield improvement initiatives while ensuring manufacturing processes remain stable, compliant, and cost-competitive. You are expected to operate with high technical autonomy, interface with global R&D and process teams, and mentor junior engineers on the Penang floor.

This role is ideal for a Master's, or Bachelor's graduate in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science who is passionate about translating lab-scale science into high-volume manufacturing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Process Development

• Design and develop new manufacturing processes or significantly improve existing ones for HDD production
• Conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) to characterize process windows, identify critical process parameters (CPPs), and optimize process outputs
• Evaluate and qualify new chemicals, materials, and process consumables for manufacturing use
• Develop process recipes, control plans, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Translate R&D/lab-scale processes into robust, scalable, high-volume manufacturing processes

Process Sustaining

• Own sustaining engineering for assigned process modules — ensure processes remain stable, in control, and within specification
• Monitor Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts; respond to out-of-control signals with structured problem-solving
• Lead Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for process changes, chemical substitutions, and material updates

Chemical & Material Engineering

• Lead yield loss analysis and drive structured RCCA (Root Cause and Corrective Action) for process-related defects
• Apply Six Sigma / SPC / Lean methodologies to reduce process variation and improve Cpk
• Partner with Quality Engineering to resolve customer escapes and field returns linked to process issues
• Drive continuous improvement projects with measurable cost and quality impact

NPI & Technology Transfer

• Support New Product Introduction (NPI) process readiness — from process concept to mass production release
• Lead or support technology transfer of new processes from R&D/HQ to Penang manufacturing
• Develop process qualification protocols (PQ), installation qualification (IQ), and operational qualification (OQ) plans

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Interface with R&D, Product Engineering, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, and Equipment Engineering teams globally
• Present process data, findings, and recommendations to senior management and global stakeholders
• Collaborate with equipment engineers on process-equipment interactions and optimization

People & Mentorship

• Mentor and coach junior and mid-level process engineers

Overview

Microsoft has an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineering manager to join our Sovereign Cloud Program, leading a team of engineers to build out and support networking and operational infrastructure in Microsoft’s National Partner Clouds (NPCs).

NPCs are specialized cloud environments that are designed to comply with the data laws of specific countries and regions.  You would be part of the team responsible for

• enabling secure cross-domain data transfer between the Azure public cloud and the NPCs
• enabling secure operational access to the NPCs for the local operations team
• NPC operations infrastructure – including WAN and LAN connectivity

Responsibilities

Lead, coach and care for a team of engineers to build and subsequently support key infrastructure in Microsoft’s NPCs.

This includes:

• Building a happy, safe and effective team culture and supporting processes.
• Building great partnerships with appropriate stakeholders (e.g. project managers and technical leads) to determine requirements and coach your team to do the same.
• Delivering against project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders
• Coaching your team and driving their efforts to ensure the correct processes are followed to achieve requisite security, privacy, safety, and accessibility standards.
• Creating and assuring presence of evidence to demonstrate compliance
• Implementing appropriate continuous feedback loops measuring customer value, usage patterns, and other actionable metrics of value.
• Building and maintaining communication with key partners across the Microsoft ecosystem of engineers.  Acting as a key contact for leadership to ensure alignment with partners' expectations.
• Coaching others and driving efforts to integrate instrumentation for gathering telemetry data on system behaviour such as performance, reliability, availability, utility, and safety mechanisms. Driving sustainment of feedback loops from telemetry resulting in subsequent designs. Creating outputs of telemetry such as notifications or dashboards.
• Coaching others in operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis.
• Coaching others to implement solutions and mitigations to complex issues impacting performance or functionality of Live Site services.
• Reviewing and writing postmortems and sharing insights with team.
• Driving ongoing performance assessment and management processes. 
• Helping your team members grow and realize their potential. 

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, with at least 7 years of experience leading teams to design, develop and support products/solutions in complex IT environments. 
• Strong leadership skills, able to develop and grow a diverse team of individuals to collaborate as a cohesive team in delivering outcomes. 
• 3+ years’ experience as a people manager.
• Strong knowledge of the foundations of secure IT infrastructure, IP networking and system administration
• Knowledge or experience of security requirements, controls and solutions
• Strong sense of accountability, solid project management and outstanding communication skills

Preferred:

• Knowledge and experience of secure management environments utilizing Active Directory, Group Policy, VPN, MECM, Windows Desktop deployments and application installations
• Knowledge and experience deploying/configuring and maintaining Network environments (both in physical platforms and Azure) including: L2/L3 Routing (BGP) & Switching, Firewalls (NAT & ACLs), IPSEC VPN.
• Experience of being part of an international team working across multiple continents and cultures. 
• Experience of the challenges of system and service management in high security domains.
• Knowledge of Cross Domain Solutions

Job Responsibilities:

1. Standards Development & Governance:

• Develop, document, and maintain comprehensive global standards, SOPs, and service level agreements for all aftersales distributors and dealers.
• Lead the annual store assessment and grading program to measure compliance and performance.
• Conduct regular audits and checks to ensure adherence to policies and work towards best-in-class service benchmarks.

2. Performance Management & Business Excellence:

• Define, set, and communicate key performance indicators (KPIs) and targets for the aftersales network.
• Monitor, review, and report on channel performance, providing insights and coaching to distributors/dealers to achieve excellence.

3. Technical & Operational Readiness:

• Assess and report on the readiness of the service network to support new product launches and existing vehicle models.
• Lead the evaluation of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) adequacy across the network, including:
• Special tooling and diagnostic equipment.
• Facility suitability and workshop layout.
• Technician skills and training needs.
• Manpower planning and technical documentation.
• Collaborate closely with the Engineering & Technical Support team to conduct these assessments.

4. Training Support:

* Support the HQ training department in the planning and development of training centre curricula to ensure non-technical and soft skills meet brand standards.

Qualifications and Experience:

* Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Management, Automotive Technology, or a related field.

* Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in automotive aftersales, with significant exposure to dealer network management, standards development, or service operations.

* Proven experience in developing SOPs, conducting audits, and implementing performance management systems (KPIs).

* Strong analytical skills with experience and root-cause investigation.

* Excellent knowledge of workshop operations, parts logistics, and technical service requirements.

* Experience with DMS and other aftersales IT systems is essential.

* Project management experience is highly desirable.
