We are seeking a detail-oriented and innovative R&D Food Chemist to develop and improve functional food and dietary supplement products, including beauty-from-within formulations. The role involves formulation, testing, regulatory compliance, and product commercialization. Additionally, this role involves collaborating with the sales/marketing team to write product proposals, providing label information, and supporting customer inquiries.

Responsibilities:

1.) Product Formulation:

• Develop new supplement and functional food products (powder, liquid, capsules)
• Reformulate existing products to improve taste, stability, and cost efficiency
• Conduct bench trials, pilot batches, and scale-up production
• Select suitable raw materials, active ingredients, and excipients
• Evaluate ingredient compatibility and chemical stability

2.) Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance: 

• Assist in evaluating and selecting raw materials, ensuring they meet quality standards and regulatory requirements as HACCP, NPRA.
• Collaborate with 3rd party laboratory testing and analysis to ensure product safety, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards. 
• Maintain accurate records of experiments, formulations, and test results. Prepare technical reports and presentations as required.
• Stay updated with relevant regulations and guidelines related to health food products and ensure compliance in product development and labeling.

3.) Production Support:

• Work closely with production team for trial runs and troubleshooting
• Optimize manufacturing processes to reduce wastage and improve efficiency
• Support scale-up from lab to commercial production

4.) Customer / Marketing Support:

• Work closely with the sales/marketing team to understand market trends and consumer preferences and assist in writing product proposals and marketing materials.
• Collaborate with sales or directly with customers to provide label information, nutritional data, and technical support as needed.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, scientific advancements, and regulatory changes related to health food product development.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree or Master’s in Chemistry, Nutrition, Food Science, or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in food product development, preferably in the health food industry.
• Strong understanding of nutritional science, food chemistry, and regulatory requirements.
• Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment and techniques for formulation and testing.

JOB DESCRIPTION :

1. To head the technical department of Port Klang, Merlimau, Pasir Gudang (thinner blending section) and Ipoh.

2. Supervising Senior Chemist and Chemist on R&D work.

3. Report chemical division research and development to Deputy General Manager and Executive director.

4. Report building division research and development to Deputy General Manager and Executive Director.

5. Supervising for QA and QC matter.

6. Design new product brochure, packing/label and prepare specification for building material.

7. Assist Sales department on customer service/complaint and technical support.

8. Provide advice on trouble-shooting for production.

9. Liaise with sales department for exploring on new product.

10. Assist sales department or management on technical issue for new market.

11. Prepare technical document if necessary for other business company requested by management.

12. Conduct technical orientation to new chemist and sales.

COMPETENCY LEVEL :

1. Minimum university degree in chemistry or chemistry related field. For example: applied chemistry, industry chemistry, etc.

2. Minimum 5 years working experience in company as senior chemist level or above or equivalent designation with similar field of business at other company.

3. Possess good technical knowledge on company’s product and related products.

4. Able to lead the team and manage subordinate.

5. Good analytical skill, resourceful on similar product.

6. Fluent in English and Malay languages. Good command of Chinese language is an added advantage.

Primary Goals/Objectives:

To provide an effective testing and analytical service to the plant ensuring that products manufactured are tested to specification on time and plant quality and safety goals are met.

Ensure that all raw material, in-process and finished product testing and method transfer testing is carried out per schedule and per GMP. Ensure that records are maintained to appropriate requirements.

Major Responsibilities:

• Perform biochemistry, analytical and raw material of in-process and marketed products for lot release in accordance with quality standards and procedures.
• Responsible for housekeeping duties in the lab. Perform Quality Tag Out for laboratory equipment such as freezer, water bath and etc.
• Support laboratory operations including but not limited to method transfer, equipment qualification, calibration, cleaning and maintenance, purchase and receipt of reagents and consumables, waste management, reagent and media preparation, critical reagent management and document management.
• Review lot release data, identify testing discrepancies and participate in laboratory investigations.
• Participate in inspection and ensure that the laboratory and documents are in a constant state of regulatory compliance and inspection readiness.
• To assist in writing SOP documents, Change plan or change records (document revisions) supporting continuous improvement of test procedures and assay sheet design.
• To carry out completion and review of GMP Documentation of data sheets or LIMS software.
• To carry out QC sample receipt, assay and release procedures.
• Support Audit preparation and any audit related activity
• Reading and understanding the test procedure and the requirements per USP, JP and EP.
