Description

The Adjunct Lecturer will teach and mentor Year 2 design students in multidisciplinary design practice, with a focus on service design, user experience, design thinking, and creative strategy. They will also guide students in developing innovative, user-centred solutions while strengthening their professional and industry-relevant skills.

The Adjunct Lecturer will be teaching one of the following modules,

Design Studio 2A (Semester 1: August–December, 14 weeks)

 and

Design Studio 2B (Semester 2: January–May, 4 + 2 weeks).

• Design Studio 2A focuses on service design, customer experience, and design thinking in multidisciplinary and cross-cultural contexts. The unit develops creative problem-solving, collaboration, trend analysis, and presentation skills within Southeast Asian industry settings.
• Design Studio 2B focuses on allowing students to build on their service and experience design knowledge by applying human-centred design approaches to create sustainable and market-ready solutions. The unit focuses on research, strategy development, collaboration, and effective communication of design concepts. 

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Undertake contact/teaching hours per week in one of the above-mentioned modules.
2. Deliver and facilitate studio-based teaching, workshops, and project activities.
3. Develop lesson plans, assessments, project briefs, and teaching materials.
4. Supervise and assess student projects, assignments, and presentations.
5. Monitor and maintain records of student attendance, progress, and performance.
6. Provide academic support, mentorship, and career guidance to students.
7. Participate in curriculum review and continuous improvement of the modules.
8. Stay current with developments in design education, industry trends, and learning practices.
9. Build and maintain industry partnerships and collaborative networks.
10. Contribute to interdisciplinary projects, collaborations, and research activities.
11. Support teaching across other programmes within the School of Art & Design when required.
12. Undertake administrative and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A minimum of a Master's in Design or a related discipline, preferably with a PhD. 
• At least 5 years of teaching experience and relevant working experience in the field. 
• Proficiency in effectively delivering classes on a hybrid teaching platform, encompassing synchronous and asynchronous teaching methods. 
• Ability to effectively collaborate and contribute within a team-oriented teaching environment. 
• Possess a positive, enthusiastic, and results-oriented approach to engage students and foster their learning. 
• Display a cooperative and collaborative mindset, with strong interpersonal skills to work well within a team. 
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), including clearly conveying ideas and instructions. 
• A strong research or professional practice track record, demonstrating actual or potential contributions in their chosen field. 
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, effectively resolving challenges in the teaching and learning process.

Description

The Adjunct Lecturer will teach and mentor first-year diploma students as they transition into various art and design disciplines, including Fine Art, 3D Design, Design & Media, and Fashion Studies. They will also guide students in developing drawing skills, creative thinking, and their own artistic style through studio-based learning.

The Adjunct Lecturer will be teaching the module,

Art & Design fundamentals for 13 teaching weeks from August to November.

This module introduces drawing as a key Fine Art practice, helping students to develop fundamental skills such as line, tone, proportion, perspective, and composition through observational and expressive drawing exercises. Working from still life, figures, objects, and spaces, students will learn to use drawing as a tool for observation, exploration, and creative expression.

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Undertake contact/teaching hours per week for the above mentioned module.
2. Plan and deliver engaging drawing lessons that develop technical skills, creativity, and critical thinking.
3. Prepare lesson plans, project briefs, assessment criteria, and teaching materials.
4. Assess student work and provide constructive feedback to support learning and improvement.
5. Mentor students in developing their personal drawing style and visual expression.
6. Monitor student progress and encourage reflective learning practices.
7. Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of the module.
8. Carry out academic administration duties, including attendance tracking, grading, moderation, and reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree (minimum) in Fine Art, Visual Design or related discipline; PhD preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant teaching and professional experience, with expertise in drawing practices across traditional and contemporary approaches.
• Familiarity with current studio practices and pedagogies in drawing and visual arts, with proven ability to deliver hybrid (synchronous and asynchronous) teaching.
• Demonstrated skill in engaging diverse student cohorts through inclusive, exploratory, and practice-led approaches.
• Positive attitude with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Reflective approach to teaching, learning, and curriculum development.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Marketing modules at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, and contribute to teaching other business-related subjects where required.
• Serve as Programme Leader and/or Module Leader, ensuring effective academic management and delivery.
• Design, develop, and continuously review curriculum, teaching materials, and assessment strategies.
• Manage assessment processes, including coursework and examination setting, marking, moderation, and result verification.
• Lead and support a team of associate lecturers through induction, classroom observations, and professional development initiatives.
• Supervise Undergraduate and Postgraduate research projects, dissertations, and final-year projects.
• Provide academic guidance, learning support, and career advice to students while monitoring academic progress and engagement.
• Facilitate university audits, programme reviews, accreditation requirements, and quality assurance compliance.
• Engage in scholarly activities, research, and professional development to maintain academic and industry relevance.
• Support departmental operations, student recruitment activities, marketing events, industry partnerships, and other administrative projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Candidate with PhD in Marketing, Business Administration, Management, or a related discipline are welcome to apply.
