The candidate will be responsible for developing printable inks based on natural material-derived precursors, such as natural materials-derived calcium phosphate, or related biomineral materials. The work will involve optimizing ink rheology, printability, shape fidelity, and structural stability for extrusion-based 3D printing. The candidate will also design and fabricate porous scaffold architectures with controlled pore size, porosity, and interconnectivity, while optimizing printing parameters such as nozzle size, extrusion pressure, printing speed, and layer height.

Job Description

Positions are available for Research Engineers, Research Assistants, and Ph.D. students in the research group of Prof. Soh Siow Ling, at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).  

The group’s general program of research involves the coupling of organic materials, mechanical forces, and electrostatics at different interfaces (e.g., solid, liquid, or gas). This coupling is currently greatly under-explored and poorly understood in science. At the same time, the coupling gives rise to many fascinating new natural phenomena for exciting fundamental discoveries and development of impactful and original technologies. 

The general approach of the group is to conduct original programs and new directions of research with strong fundamental science. The group is highly interdisciplinary and involves engineering (e.g., fluid mechanics), materials science, chemistry, and physics. Different organic materials are used, including polymers (e.g., stimuli-responsive polymers), hydrogels, and covalent organic frameworks (COFs). 

One project involves an original system that harvests water energy from nature (e.g., rain and rivers) and directly generates electricity by solid-liquid charge separation with high energy conversion efficiency. Other projects involve clearing virus-laden atmospheric aerosols and preventing the spread of infectious diseases (e.g., COVID-19) and development of clean surfaces that do not adhere any dust on them. Another research involves stimuli-responsive polymers for small molecular separation, smart delivery, and intelligent soft machines.

A recent exciting and emerging field from our group is the development of novel mechanocatalysts for performing mechanochemical reactions with high energy conversion efficiency. Harvesting energy from mechanical forces of nature (e.g., wind or water flows) is a novel and sustainable approach to performing chemical reactions. 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is preferably someone open-minded to conducting original fields of research, independent, and hardworking. Because the research of the group is highly interdisciplinary and many projects in different disciplines are ongoing, candidates with a Bachelor’s degree from a wide range of backgrounds will be considered for different projects, including engineering (e.g., chemical, mechanical, etc), materials science, chemistry, and physics.

As a Global System Integrator (GSI) Partner Engineer, you will partner with GSI Partner development and Sales teams to differentiate Google Cloud to our key GSI partners. You will serve as the GSI partner’s primary technical partner and trusted advisor, engaging in technical-led conversations to understand their business challenges. You will troubleshoot technical questions and roadblocks, engage in proofs of concepts and demos, and use your expertise to architect cross-pillar cloud solutions that solve these business challenges. You will drive the technical win with the GSI Partner and assist the GSI Partner to define the delivery and consumption plans. You will use your strategic acumen and presentation skills to engage with technical and business leaders, and present solutions on Google Cloud. You will have excellent technical, communication and organizational skills.

You will focus on identifying, pursuing, and winning new business workloads and driving engagement within existing ones as a technical generalist, spanning infrastructure modernization, application modernization, data analytics and more. You will blend business prowess, market knowledge and technical engagement to prove the value of the Google Cloud portfolio.

• Develop and own the GSI Partner technical strategy, participating in planning and supporting business initiatives.
• Combine sales, programming, and solutions architecture expertise to prove the value of Google Cloud Platform across the portfolio through complex demos, pilots and workshops.
• Architect cross-pillar solutions, drive technical wins, and define initial delivery plans for customers; continue to lead the technical engagement in the solution phase.
• Plan and support the GSI Partner in building, developing and enhancing their Google Cloud Practice.
• Be the Technical point of contact for GSI partner for product and solution enquires, working in conjunction with Product and Support specialists within Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 10 years of experience with cloud native architecture in a customer-facing or support role.
• Experience with cloud engineering, on-premise engineering, virtualization, or containerization platforms.
• Experience engaging with, or presenting to, technical stakeholders or executive leaders.
• Experience in managing GSI Partners or other Channel Partners as a Technical Alliance lead or engineer.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience selling technical solutions in one or more of the following: Infrastructure Modernization, Application Modernization, Data Management, Data Analytics, Cloud AI, Networking, Migrations, Security.
• Experience driving the entire business cycle (e.g., defining the delivery and consumption plan and transitioning it for execution).
• Experience building technical strategies to uncover new workloads with customers.

Duties to be Performed:

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Fire Protection Systems will be responsible for designing and delivering mechanical systems for industrial properties in the semiconductor, electronics, biopharma, and related industries.

The Duties/ Responsibilities of the Prospective Candidate are,

• Responsible for Concept, Basic, and Detailed Design of Mechanical Fire Protection Systems, including Fire Sprinkler, Fire Hydrant, Fire Hose Reel in accordance with local and international codes.

• Engineering design of Fire Protection and Detection Systems for new and existing industrial and commercial buildings, ensuring life safety and property protection.

• Conduct feasibility studies and conceptual designs of Fire Protection Systems, evaluating system types (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge) and suppression strategies based on fire risk assessments.

• Review of Fire Protection systems in preparation for testing, commissioning, and validation, ensuring systems function per design intent and performance criteria.

• Provide engineering services for tendering, including preparing technical specifications, BOQ, SOW, conducting site show rounds, and briefing bidders on fire protection packages.

• Develop detailed project plans for Fire Protection scope, including tracking of design milestones, procurement schedules, installation, testing, and commissioning activities.

• Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including Fire Protection Calculations, Hydraulic Calculations, Material Submittals, and As-Built Drawings.

• Liaise with clients to understand project-specific fire safety goals and regulatory requirements, and clarify detailed briefs for each fire protection system design.

• Clearly define and align inter-discipline technical interfaces (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Architectural) and scope demarcation for fire protection systems.

• Work with CAD Drafters and BIM Modelers to guide system modeling, verify routing of pipes and equipment locations, and conduct field verification to ensure installation compliance.

• Perform Friction Loss Calculations for piping networks, determine pump head requirements, and estimate Power Requirements for fire pumps and associated equipment.

• Conduct Fire Risk Assessments and Smoke Control Calculations, and perform system design analyses for compliance with local codes and international standards

• Promote safe working practices, ensuring all fire protection systems are designed and installed to protect the health and safety of employees, contractors, and clients.

• Liaise closely with QA/QC Engineers to ensure inspections, testing and system commissioning are aligned with approved fire protection specifications and quality standards.
