Shared Services for Charities Ltd supports charities in strengthening governance, enhancing accountability and building organisational capability. SSC provides practical advisory, training and shared services to help charities meet regulatory requirements, improve operational effectiveness and strengthen stakeholder confidence.
As part of SSC’s Programmes and Services team, the Internal Auditor will support internal audit, governance review, internal control review, risk management and related assignments for charities.
Key Responsibilities
The Internal Auditor will be responsible for supporting and delivering client assignments, including the following:
A. Internal Audit and Governance Review
- Assist in planning and conducting internal audit assignments for charities.
- Review governance, finance, procurement, operational and compliance processes.
- Assess internal controls and identify control gaps, process weaknesses and areas for improvement.
- Conduct interviews and walkthroughs with charity management and staff.
- Review documents, policies, procedures, records and supporting evidence.
- Prepare audit working papers, findings and recommendations.
- Assist in drafting internal audit reports and governance review reports.
- Follow up with clients on management responses and action plans.
B. Internal Control and Risk Advisory
- Support internal control reviews across key areas such as finance, procurement, donations, grant management, programme delivery, human resources and data protection.
- Assist charities in understanding practical controls suitable for their size, complexity and risk profile.
- Help identify key operational, compliance and governance risks.
- Support the development of practical recommendations, checklists and templates.
C. Charity Governance and Compliance Support
- Assist in assignments relating to the Code of Governance for Charities and IPCs, Governance Evaluation Checklist, board governance, conflict of interest, reserves, whistle-blowing and related governance matters.
- Support workshops, training programmes and client advisory work where required.
- Assist in preparing board-level or management-level reports for charity clients.
D. AI, Digital and Data-Enabled Audit Support
- Use digital tools, spreadsheets and data analysis techniques to improve audit efficiency and quality.
- Assist in analysing financial, operational and programme data.
- Explore the responsible use of AI tools to support research, documentation, risk identification, report drafting and knowledge management.
- Support SSC’s development of digital and AI-enabled governance resources, templates and tools for charities.
- Assist in projects relating to digital trust, cybersecurity readiness, data protection or responsible AI where required.
E. Impact Reporting and Sector Capability Building
- Support SSC’s work in impact reporting, outcome measurement and annual report improvement.
- Assist charities in identifying outcomes, indicators and evidence for stakeholder reporting.
- Contribute to the preparation of impact reporting templates, checklists and practical resources.
- Support workshops or advisory projects relating to impact reporting and organisational capability building.
F. Client and Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate professionally with charity clients, board members, management and staff.
- Maintain good client relationships and uphold SSC’s reputation as a trusted sector partner.
- Attend client meetings, workshops and sector events where required.
- Work collaboratively with SSC colleagues, volunteers, partners and professional advisors.
Requirements
Associate Level
Suitable for fresh graduates or candidates with up to 2 years of relevant experience.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree or diploma in accountancy, business, finance, audit, governance, data analytics, public policy, social sciences or related disciplines.
- Strong interest in internal audit, governance, risk management and the charity sector.
- Good analytical, writing and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to learn charity governance, internal controls and regulatory requirements.
- Good attitude, curiosity and ability to work in a team.
Preferred Attributes
- Internship or project experience in audit, accounting, consulting, charities, public sector, data analytics or governance.
- Basic familiarity with AI tools, data analysis tools, dashboards or process improvement tools.
- Interest in impact reporting, sustainability, social impact or nonprofit governance.
Senior Associate Level
Suitable for candidates with approximately 2 to 5 years of relevant experience.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree in accountancy, business, finance, audit, governance, risk management, data analytics or related disciplines.
- Relevant experience in internal audit, external audit, risk advisory, compliance, governance, finance, consulting or charity operations.
- Able to perform audit fieldwork, prepare working papers and draft clear findings and recommendations.
- Strong written communication and report-writing skills.
- Able to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Comfortable engaging charity management and operational staff.
- Good understanding of internal controls, risk management and governance principles.
- Preferred Attributes
- Experience with charities, IPCs, social service agencies or public sector organisations.
- Familiarity with the Code of Governance for Charities and IPCs, Governance Evaluation Checklist, charity reporting or regulatory compliance.
- Experience using Excel, data analytics tools, audit software, AI tools or digital productivity platforms.
- Exposure to impact reporting, ESG, sustainability reporting or outcome measurement.
- Professional qualifications or progress towards qualifications such as CA Singapore, ACCA, CIA, CISA or related certifications would be advantageous.

Curiosity about how AI can support governance, internal control, audit and impact reporting.
Impact Reporting Skills
Candidates with exposure to impact reporting would be an advantage. This may include:
