Munich Re Specialty was formed as a stand-alone division in 2023, and brings together the wider Munich Re group’s primary specialty business units. Complementing an already strong presence in the UK and the US, Munich Re Specialty – Global Markets (MRSGM) has been tasked with executing a wider plan to build a broader global footprint. We’re looking for a passionate and experienced Assistant Underwriter, Political Violence and Terrorism to join our Specialty team at a truly exciting time. 

Objective

To support the prudent underwriting of quality business, in line with the business plan, to optimise return of profit, while maintaining the firm’s reputation and integrity, demonstrating care for customers and respect for the regulatory obligations of the firm.

Job Responsibilities

1. Underwrite Terrorism & Political Violence risks, exercising judgement in all underwriting matters, with due consideration for own underwriting limits as set out on the Underwriting Authority sheet, all in accordance with the syndicate’s business plan.
2. Assist in the underwriting of business via the Service Company network.
3. Conduct and develop effective relationships within Lloyd’s, both with peers and with brokers, with a view to securing new and renewal business that falls within the syndicate’s portfolio, specifically Terrorism & Political Violence risks. Where necessary, represent the Company at broker or client meetings alone.
4. Review slips and/or other information/literature, exercising own judgement, based on knowledge and experience, acting within own limits of authority and referring to the Senior Underwriter, Specialty Risks when appropriate.
5. Review and administer existing contracts and make amendments in line with the syndicate’s underwriting philosophy.
6. Input data and process risk entries in Websure underwriting system when required.
7. The recording and monitoring of data, aggregates, pricing and income flows and produce analysis and support where applicable.
8. Undertake premium chasing and assist with Credit Control.
9. Ensure that company procedures and systems are followed and maintained, as per procedures and compliance manuals.
10. Help drive forward good conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders.
11. Understand all appropriate lines of escalation and the responsibilities of the Lloyd’s, MAS, Munich Re Specialty ExCo and Board for Conduct Risk.

Knowledge and Skills

• At least 3-5 years of insurance experience in this class of business

Your Role

You will serve as the Client Manager for Indonesian Non-Life reinsurance business. Combining strong commercial acumen, technical expertise, and relationship management skills, you will drive profitable growth, position Munich Re as an innovative leader, and deliver exceptional client service.

Client Facing, Marketing & Relationship Management

• Develop, maintain, and service existing client and broker relationships while identifying and pursuing new business partnership opportunities.
• Strengthen and expand strategic client relationships; act as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts, ensuring high service standards across renewals, claims, and day-to-day interactions.
• Drive Munich Re’s positioning in the region as an innovative reinsurer that leads opinion on emerging and traditional risks, proactively offering tailor-made reinsurance, capital, and digital solutions.
• Prepare, analyse, and evaluate client and market data from both external and internal sources; develop customised marketing and presentation materials to support client discussions and negotiations.
• Lead negotiations with clients and brokers, explaining complex technical concepts clearly in collaboration with underwriters and specialist teams.
• Maintain strong market profile and visibility through regular engagement, industry events, and thought-leadership initiatives.

Product & Market Strategy

• Advance our product and service offerings to existing and new clients, including traditional reinsurance as well as innovative solutions.
• Develop, enhance, and successfully implement Line of Business (LoB) strategies for the Indonesia Non-Life portfolio.
• Ensure alignment of LoB strategies with overall market and client strategies across all lines of business.
• Proactively support underwriters by exploring new business fields, identifying growth opportunities, and helping to expand the portfolio beyond the existing book.
• Formulate and implement client segmentation and prioritisation frameworks to optimise business development efforts.
• Contribute sound market and client insights to the annual planning and budgeting process.
• Implement defined strategies and operational client management within the assigned market; support broader market growth initiatives by collaborating with underwriting and capital solution partners.

Underwriting Quality & Collaboration

• Work closely with the underwriting division to develop and execute market-relevant underwriting standards and guidelines.
• Advise the Southeast Asia team and regional expert teams on key market topics, regulatory developments, and other factors impacting underwriting and business decisions.
• Provide strategic input into major business opportunities and contribute to portfolio optimisation and risk management.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with pricing, actuarial, claims, and other specialist teams to deliver integrated, high-quality reinsurance solutions.

Your Profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related discipline. Professional insurance/reinsurance qualifications (e.g., ACII, CPCU) are highly regarded.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in business development, client management, account management, or consulting roles within the insurance or reinsurance industry, preferably in Non-Life/Property & Casualty.
• Proven success in handling complex business relationships, partnerships, and high-stakes commercial negotiations.
• Strong understanding of insurance/reinsurance profitability drivers, financial concepts, pricing, and risk transfer mechanisms.
• Client-centric mindset with a proactive sales attitude, creativity, innovation skills, and a strong drive to achieve results.
• In-depth knowledge and extensive experience in the Indonesia insurance/reinsurance market

The IT Risk Officer reports to the Head of IT Audit Coordination APAC based in Singapore. You will sit in the sub tower which is the central point for managing all IT audits and regulatory questionnaires, both internal and external. The goal of the sub tower is to provide a smooth evaluation process by being the primary coordination point for all partners.

Your job

• Coordinate end-to-end IT regulatory inspections (e.g. OIC, NFRA, IRDAI, APRA, MAS ), annual external IT audits, and internal IT audits, including stakeholder engagement, coordination of questionnaires and surveys, fieldwork, audit reporting, and post-audit gap closure monitoring.
• Manage each audit as project ensuring it stays on schedule and involves the right IT experts and management at the appropriate times.
• Review relevant materials before they are sent to the auditor to ensure high quality and accuracy.
• Perform first-line compliance assessments of new laws, regulations, advisories, and circulars in collaboration with IT divisions, Group Compliance, and Integrated Risk Management.

Your profile

• Proficient in COBIT 2019, Cybersecurity principles, and Data Protection regulations.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Life and Health Central Life Reserving team in Singapore. The team oversees the valuation, reserving and financial reporting for Life and Health business of Munich Re Singapore branch, covering both global and local valuation bases including Solvency II, HGB, MAS and IFRS (9 and 17).

Reporting to the Head of MRS Valuation, you will combine accounting, actuarial science, modelling, and regulatory expertise to ensure sufficiency of reserves and insightful financial reporting to the senior management at Munich Re.

Your Role

You will be involved across the full valuation and reporting cycle, including:

• Proposing model enhancements and setting valuation assumptions for the Singapore business
• Modelling new treaties in AXIS
• Preparing quarterly and annual Solvency II reporting for Singapore
• Delivering quarterly and annual IFRS reporting (Group and local)
• Producing management reports for the local leadership team
• Supporting annual financial planning for the Singapore business
• Partnering closely with the local business teams to support commercial and reporting needs
• Supporting local and Group audit processes
• Collaborating with regional and global stakeholders (e.g. Oversight and Consolidation teams) during reporting cycles

Your Profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Statistics
• At least 2 years of valuation experience preferred
• Strong analytical, problem solving, research and project management skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Excel (can maintain complex spreadsheets), VBA, SQL and database management systems

As part of our growth in the Southeast Asia Health team, we are seeking a newly to mid-level qualified Actuary with strong technical expertise and a focus on health insurance products to join our team. 

The Health Team is currently formed of 8 individuals, which includes a Head, three qualified actuaries, two actuarial analysts, an underwriter and a data manager. There is significant opportunity in the Health markets in South East Asia and the team is looking for a technical qualified actuary who can help them leverage these opportunities and grow the Munich Re Health portfolio profitably.

Your Role

Actuarial Analyses

• Pricing / re-pricing of health insurance products for our clients, based on deep statistical analyses of large volumes of experience data and medical, and other, research, in order to build appropriate pricing health assumptions;
• Perform detailed deep-dive portfolio monitoring on a treaty level, based on loss ratios, to ascertain current experience and recent trends. Use of such analyses to identify segments of policyholders with poor experience and idea generation on appropriate remedial actions;
• Develop enhanced and automated actuarial tools to enable scalable portfolio monitoring and more effective pricing, including GLMs;
• Correspond with internal accountants, or clients, on data issues;
• Generate IBNR factors for internal and external requirements.
  

Product Development

• Designing of new health insurance products/benefits with consideration of marketability vis-a-vis risk management;
• Work closely with medical underwriters and other experts to ascertain the risk management of product features / new health risks, marketing approach and underwriting questions;
• Participate in research and development work on medical trends in various SEA markets;
  

Client Liaising

• Share portfolio monitoring presentation analyses/slides, including mitigation actions where required, with both client managers and clients directly;
• Generate new product ideas and present them internally and to clients;
• Involvement in other client facing responsibilities and managing clients’ requests;
• Provide client managers support in handling product, and other, queries from clients;
  

Mentoring

• The individual would be expected to impart their technical knowledge to the rest of the team and guide junior colleagues;
• In due course there could be scope for the individual to take on some management responsibilities. 
  

Your Profile

• Newly – mid level Qualified Actuary (FSA, FIA, FIAA) with at least 5 years’ total experience;
• At least 3 years of experience in Pricing or R&D, including building all components of best estimate Health assumptions and carrying out ‘deep dive’ experience analyses, preferably in Health;
• Reinsurance experience, with sound understanding of how reinsurers operate and add value to cedents.
• Experience of incorporating medical opinion and external judgement into Pricing assumptions / basis setting;
• Experience in some of the South East Asian markets, including in Health products, regulation and commercial practices;
• Ability to work with large volumes of data in SQL, Python or an equivalent tool, as well as strong skills in Microsoft Excel (ability to perform complex functions) and Access;  
• Strong statistical analysis abilities, including in Generalised Linear Models or machine learning techniques, combined with sound judgement and commercial awareness;
• Good communication skills with the ability to negotiate, present and share ideas with colleagues and clients;
• Ability to work independently, as well as with the team, take the lead on projects and provide effective training and coaching to more junior team members;
