We are looking for a detail-oriented and reliable Road Maintenance Officer to join our team in Coolaroo, Australia. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing road surfaces, ensuring safe and efficient transportation infrastructure for our community. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work efficiently in a field-based environment. You will work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to complete maintenance tasks and respond to road-related issues in a timely manner.

What you’ll be doing:

• Inspect road surfaces, drainage systems, and related infrastructure to identify maintenance and repair needs
• Perform routine maintenance activities including patching, sealing, and resurfacing of roads
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as compactors, pavers, and graders in accordance with safety protocols
• Respond promptly to road damage reports and emergency situations
• Coordinate with traffic management personnel to ensure public safety during maintenance operations
• Document maintenance activities, equipment usage, and work completed for record-keeping purposes
• Adhere to all safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding project progress and challenges
• Perform minor repairs and troubleshooting on maintenance equipment
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment and properly store tools and materials

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

• 2-3 years of experience in road maintenance, construction, or similar field-based work
• Proficiency in operating heavy machinery and maintenance equipment
• Strong understanding of road safety protocols and traffic management principles
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor in varying weather conditions
• Valid Australian driver's license
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
• Clear communication skills and attention to detail

Required Certifications & Qualifications: 

• Heavy vehicle license (HR or HC class)
• First Aid certification
• Traffic management certification
• Experience with road asset management systems
• Knowledge of local road infrastructure standards and maintenance schedules
• Previous experience working for local government or transportation authorities

Lead strategic responses and create opportunities to promote volunteering to enhance social and economic pathways and participation ensuring the programs adhere to Councils Social Justice Charter principles.

What you’ll be doing:

• Facilitate, promote and resource and local networks including the Hume Volunteer Gateway and Local Volunteer Coordinators network.
• Build, strengthen and maintain professional relationships, including collaboration with key stakeholders to enhance the capacity of community members to participate in social and economic volunteer opportunities.
• Ensure the Hume Volunteer Gateway portal and database is up to-date and stakeholders/users are provided with appropriate support and/or training in its use.
• Provide a coordinated approach, guidance and advice to a range of services and volunteer supervisors across Council, to effectively manage volunteers, build organisational capacity, and alignment with the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement and legislative requirements. Respond to enquiries (including Hume Volunteer Gateway online platform) in a professional and timely manner.
• Actively and professionally represent Council at events, expos and meetings as required.
• Develop, review and maintain information, tools and resources including information on Council’s website, social and print media and intranet.
• Maintain income and expenditure records and submit annual budget estimates to be considered for inclusion in the annual department budget.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in volunteer support and staff supervision, and development practices including the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement.
• Demonstrated experience in working with sector stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, to generate relationships, pathways and opportunities for volunteering.
• Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and as part of a team, including well developed project management skills, planning, time management and organisational skills.
• High level oral communication and presentation skills, as well as sound written and report writing skills.
• Demonstrated experience in using Microsoft Office software (specifically Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook), Council programs such as InfoCouncil and TRIM and online meeting platforms including MS Teams and Zoom.

Required Certifications & Qualifications

• Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences, Community Development, Community Engagement, Volunteer Program Management or a related field, or lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience in a similar role.

As a Business Support Officer, you will contribute to the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of support services to the Sustainability, Climate and Waste department and the Hume community.

What you’ll be doing:

• Manage service requests and enquiries from the public in accordance with Service Level Agreements. Ensuring that telephone enquiries from residents/ratepayers are answered promptly in a polite and helpful manner and the query dealt with or referred to other Officers/Departments as required.
• Provide clerical support including word processing, agenda preparation, and minute taking.
• Maintain online registers and databases.
• Monitor shared inboxes proving timely responses to all enquiries in accordance with business unit processes.
• Report building maintenance and technical issues to the relevant department and monitoring the outcome.
• Develop and maintain up-to-date guides, templates, forms and collate documentation.
• Create purchase orders and receipt invoices for purchases across the Sustainability, Climate and Waste department, ensuring all invoices are receipted by the invoice due date, managing journal requests as required and adhering to Council’s procurement, delegations and financial policies and guidelines.
• Reconcile financial records, prepare reports, and maintain accurate spreadsheets relating to purchasing activity across the Sustainability, Climate and Waste department.
• Compile and analyse Sustainability, Climate and Waste data (e.g. KPIs, WLIs).
• Prepare, collate, and submit data and information used for internal and external reporting, including but not limited to Hume City Council Annual Report, Local Government Performance Reporting Framework, and the Local Government Annual Waste Survey.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

• Strong knowledge of administrative processes and procedures.
• Understanding of purchasing processes and associated local government policies.
• Demonstrated experience in the computer-based systems including databases, spreadsheets, CRM and purchasing systems.
• Experience in customer service and clerical administration.
• Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse individuals.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and produce accurate reports and correspondence.
• Ability to gain cooperation and assistance from clients, other employees, and members of the public in the administration of well-defined activities.
