Job Summary
The Vessel Operations Specialist shall lead end-to-end fleet operations for company-owned LNG carriers, ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable performance across commercial execution, asset integrity, and lifecycle cost.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate voyage and cargo operations by managing nominations, updating ETA/ETD, liaising with terminals and agents, and maintaining ship-to-shore communications to ensure smooth operations.
- Monitor LNG operational parameters including boil-off, heel, cooldown/warmup readiness, and custody transfer preparation; escalate any deviations promptly.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive operational documentation such as NOR/SOF data packs, terminal checklists, cargo documents, and voyage files to support operational accuracy.
- Track and assist in managing operational costs including port charges, canal dues, agency fees, and deviation costs; support invoice verification processes.
- Assist in preparing demurrage and despatch data and support claims processing under supervision to optimize financial outcomes.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams (Trading, Risk, Finance) and external stakeholders (terminals, agents, surveyors, ship managers) to ensure operational alignment.
- Support compliance activities including vetting submissions, HSSE reporting inputs, and audit evidence collection to maintain regulatory standards.
- Ensure adherence to ISM/ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, and company HSSE policies; promote a strong safety culture and continuous operational improvements.
- Lead and coordinate incident response efforts including investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions to mitigate risks.
- Manage vetting and terminal approvals aligned with SIGTTO standards and oil major/terminal requirements; ensure timely closure of findings.
- Provide operational feasibility assessments to traders and chartering teams regarding laycan risks, terminal constraints, routing, and seasonal restrictions to support decision-making.
- Own the operational claims strategy and ensure high-quality documentation for demurrage, off-hire, deviation, delay, and performance disputes; coordinate with Legal and Insurance teams.
- Oversee operational cost budgets and KPIs; ensure accurate voyage accounting inputs and maintain accrual discipline for financial control.
- Manage relationships with external ship managers, port agents, and marine service providers; establish service level agreements and conduct performance reviews.
- Coordinate with insurers, P&I clubs, and classification/flag authorities on operational matters to ensure compliance and risk management.
- Develop and maintain operational playbooks, checklists, and escalation protocols to enhance controls and audit readiness.
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in vessel and terminal operations.
- Ability to work independently with a strong sense of responsibility and a positive attitude.
- Familiarity with shipping consortium agreements.
- Strong analytical skills demonstrated through experience in data analysis.
