About the Role
The Centre for Epidemic Response & Modelling (CERM) at NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public
Health seeks a Research Fellow with deep expertise in Bayesian statistical modelling and genomic
epidemiology to contribute to methodological and applied research across several funded
programmes. Core themes include the integration of genomic, serological, and epidemiological
data into unified Bayesian frameworks; real-time inference of transmission dynamics and variant
fitness; and the development of semi-mechanistic models for arbovirus lineage surveillance across
South and South-East Asia.

The postholder will work with Asst. Prof. Swapnil Mishra (Deputy Director, CERM and AI for Public
Health Programme) and engage an active network of collaborators spanning CERM, NUS, Imperial
College London, Ashoka University, the Communicable Diseases Agency Singapore (CDA), the
National Environment Agency Singapore (NEA), the Machine Learning & Global Health Network
(MLGH), and wider regional and global partners.

Key Responsibilities
• Develop and extend Bayesian semi-mechanistic renewal equation models for estimating
genotype-specific reproduction numbers and immune escape.
• Build scalable inference pipelines integrating genomic (phylogenetic/lineage) data with
epidemiological surveillance streams.
• Apply and extend deep generative modelling approaches (e.g. normalising flows,
variational inference) to handle large-scale pathogen genomic datasets.
• Contribute to real-time dashboards and toolkits for arbovirus genomic surveillance (DENV,
ZIKV) across the region.
• Publish findings in high-quality peer-reviewed journals; present at international
conferences.
• Co-supervise Research Associates and Research Assistants; contribute to grant writing

Responsibilities

• Conduct horizon scanning on emerging developments (e.g., AI in education, new early childhood risks, and international trends) and synthesise their implications for CRCD’s research directions, partnerships, and funding opportunities.

• Conduct exploratory and longitudinal analyses of existing datasets to uncover viable research questions and examine patterns, variability, and relationships between classroom quality and child development outcomes.

• Collaborate with relevant researchers and stakeholders to draft high-quality research funding proposals - integrating literature reviews, methodology sections, and other supporting materials - leading to submission.

• Support the planning and set-up of new research project teams, including facilitating early-stage project activities and onboarding of team members. 

• Explore, pilot, and document technology-enabled research processes (e.g., AI-assisted literature scanning and synthesis tools), and support Centre Management in developing improved workflows to enhance CRCD’s research efficiency.

• Any other research-related responsibilities assigned by Centre Management.

Scope of Services

• Conduct ICT-based customised training workshop for students and teachers, post training surveys, compile students’ work
• Trainer in charge of Robotics Club
•  Administrator for other ICT-based systems not under MOE
• Manage and upkeep the school’s website
• Assist in providing the Audio Visual Technical support for school events and activities
• Involve in daily assembly, videography, phototaking, videoeditingduring school events, posters/brochures designing andstocktaking, etc.
• Assist HOD Ed Tech in ICT/AV-related administrative,operational and project management duties when necessary such as inventory checks, loaning process, fault reporting matters and service request.

Skill & Experience

a. Have preferably 2 years related working experience
b. Proficient in MS Office especially MS Excel
c. Have knowledge of HTML or CSS
d. Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Youtube Live

e. Able to troubleshoot a variety of ICT related issues
