The Research Associate will be required to support the development of next-generation optoelectronic devices, focusing on devices such as metatransistors made from perovskites and conductive polymers. The role involves nanofabrication using focused ion beam milling and electron beam lithography, electroluminescence characterization, and photonic modeling with COMSOL and Lumerical.

Key Responsibilities:

As an integral part of the project, the Research Associate is expected to work on fabrication and characterization of  light-emitting devices using advanced nanofabrication techniques, optical and electrical measurements to analyze emission properties, simulations to optimize device performance and light–matter interaction, collaborate with research teams and contribute to publications and reports, collaboration with research teams, and contribution to scientific publications.

The Research Associate is expected to work, generate ideas and experimentally prove them both independently and within team-working efforts with other researchers working on the project.

The Research Associate will be required to:

• Design and conduct experiments in optical imaging, spectroscopy, and related photonic applications.

Project Title: Orchestrating AI-enabled Mathematics Lessons: An Exploratory Study

Project Introduction:

The introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into education has potentially ushered in an era of new possibilities for reimagining learning, teaching, and assessment practices. The current developments in machine learning, data analytics, natural language processing, and other adaptive technologies promise to provide students with personalised learning pathways and automated feedback, while supporting teachers to adopt a more discursive teaching stance (Pepin et al., 2025). For instance, ChatGPT and other AI-enabled technologies have been used to support teachers in planning mathematics lessons (Gurl et al., 2024), developing mathematics tasks (Schorcht et al., 2024), and designing learning environments for mathematical problem solving (Liu et al., 2025). These perceived affordances of AI have catalysed interests in developing more responsive and differentiated mathematics instruction through a data-driven approach.

However, it remains unclear how teachers can fully harness the affordances of these AI-enabled technologies, given their limitations in reliability (e.g., hallucinations) and adaptability for use with diverse student groups (Celik et al., 2022; Schorcht et al., 2024). Furthermore, as highlighted by Sinha (2025), what constitutes good AI use in education depends on teachers’ perspectives of learning—do they see learning from an instructivist, constructivist, or embodied perspective? These differing perspectives can influence how teachers think about mathematics task design (Schorcht et al., 2024). More importantly, how AI-generated tasks or AI educational tools are used in classrooms adds to the complexities and nuances of orchestrating learning experiences for students. It is not simply about the design of the task, but also how the task is used in the actual instruction (Smith & Stein, 1998).

Therefore, the main aim of this project is to investigate how two expert teachers think as they orchestrate AL-enabled learning experiences in mathematics classrooms, from planning to implementation.

About the Role
The Centre for Epidemic Response & Modelling (CERM) at NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health is recruiting two Research Associates/Assistants to support a diverse portfolio of research projects at the intersection of infectious disease modelling, Bayesian inference, AI, and public health. Projects span AI-driven epidemic forecasting, transmission modelling in the ASEAN region, social network dynamics and use for large language models for public good. Successful candidates will be embedded in a multidisciplinary team working with epidemiologists, clinicians, biostatisticians, data scientists, and public health agencies.

We welcome candidates with complementary skill profiles. One position is oriented towards computational/statistical modelling; the other towards data engineering, visualisation, and software development. Job Description

We are seeking for a highly motivated and collaborative Research Engineer with demonstrated skills in environmental engineering, microbiome, and bioinformatics. The position involves developing novel biotechnologies for nutrients removal and pollutants detoxification in bioreactors, engineered systems, waterbodies and the environment, in particular cultivation and characterization of functional microbes, predictive understanding of microbiome dynamics and functioning in engineering systems such as bioreactors in lab and pilot scale. The selected Research Engineer will be responsible for sample collection or management, culturing, microbiome analysis, data processing, integration, etc. He/she will also be encouraged to collaborate with other laboratory members on diverse research projects.

Job Requirements

•    Possess a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering.
•    Master’s degree is preferred. 
•    At least 3 years’ of relevant working experience  
•    Prior research experience in one or more areas such as environmental microbiology and biotechnology, chemical analysis; 
•    Multidisciplinary knowledge and research experience in engineering, chemical analysis, environmental biotechnology, bioinformatics, statistics, data mining, machine learning.
•    Independent, motivated, resourceful and able to work in a team.
•    Strong written and spoken communication skills. 
•    Excellent quantitative, writing, and presentation skills.
•    Experience in publishing peer-reviewed publications.
•    Demonstrated ability to direct and run independent research project(s).
Experience collaborating with industrial teams.
•    Open to fixed-term contract
