Project Overview

The "Mens, Manus and Machina—How AI Empowers People, Institutions and Cities in Singapore (M3S)" five-year project was initiated in July 2023. It is driven by the goal of investigating the nature of work, redefining our relationship with technology, and exploring how institutions can adapt to foster liveability, sustainability, innovation, and social welfare.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects that aim to develop state-of-the-art AI to create future smart cities. This Postdoctoral Associate position is until June 2028 under the M3S program at SMART. The SMART team seeks to advance the frontier of AI research, apply it to society and cities, and demonstrate the concrete social impacts of the AI algorithms with broad public acceptance in Singapore.

Responsibilities

The SMART-T7 project concerns the design of human-machine systems for the scheduling and allocation of valuable resources in ways that accommodate and optimize for the needs and capabilities of both humans and machines. The project aims to solve diverse use cases in a broad set of application contexts.

The management of large-scale service and infrastructure systems—such as airport operations, urban mobility, last-mile logistics, robotic fleet management and other smart city applications—requires making tightly coupled scheduling and resource allocation decisions under significant operational complexity. These systems are characterized by high-dimensional, combinatorial decision spaces (e.g., assigning flights to gates, vehicles to multi-service tasks, lockers to dynamic demand, or robotic agents to coupled tasks), where interactions and coordination requirements between entities—such as connecting passengers, pooled service requests, customer time windows, and robotic tasks—often introduce intractable structures. At the same time, decision-makers must balance multiple, often conflicting objectives across stakeholders, including efficiency, reliability, and equity, while accounting for dynamic and stochastic demand patterns. The project addresses these challenges through a combination of advanced optimization methods (e.g., flow-based models that strengthen tractability, decomposition methods), learning-enhanced approximations (e.g., embedding-based representations of complex interactions, passenger flow estimation using generative techniques), and artificial intelligence (e.g., AI-powered digital twin simulations). Together, these approaches enable scalable, real-time decision-making in complex environments, while explicitly capturing trade-offs between operational performance and user-centric outcomes, such as passenger experience, system utilization, and service responsiveness.

The SMART-T7 team is led by Professors Alexandre Jacquillat, Jinhua Zhao, Hamsa Balakrishnan, Amedeo Odoni, and Jason Jackson from MIT, and Professor Hai Wang from Singapore Management University.

The successful candidate will work closely with Professors Alexandre Jacquillat (MIT), Hai Wang (Singapore Management University) and Bo Lin (National University of Singapore). The broad objective of the research will be to harness the power of operations research, AI, data science, and other disciplines to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of human-machine systems. The primary application areas are smart city operations and robotic fleet management. The research will work at the interface of large-scale optimization, data-driven decision-making, the AI-optimization interface, and digital twin simulation. We invite applicants who hold or about to get a doctoral degree in Operations Research, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, or other related disciplines. • Define design specifications for complex hardware blocks and accelerators, in close collaboration with the digital design engineers for power, performance and timing requirements
• Provide technical leadership throughout the development, working closely and assisting designers, verification and system validation engineers, providing solutions and promptly resolving issues during the development of the SOC
• Reviewing verification and validation plans for the design verification and system teams, identifying gaps, helping to debug issues in the pre and post silicon platforms, and ensuring strict conformance with standards and specifications
• Understand the design specifications of existing hardware modules, identifying areas of improvements, communicating with the team and making architectural and design enhancements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical engineering or computer science
• Proven ability to thrive in a small, agile engineering team, taking initiative, prioritizing tasks and handle evolving technical challenges, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability from design through validation and delivery.
• Min 5 years of experience in SOC hardware architecture development for communication networking or switch SOC, multimedia and/or communication SOCs
• Strong understanding in chip hardware and system design and hand on experience on SOC system design projects
• Good understanding of different SOC architectures, Signal processing, interconnects (NIC/NOC), buses and  hardware/software/firmware partition
• Prior experience of driving system architecture decisions across Software/Firmware/Hardware/Design teams to build up the consensus and translate ideas into architecture specifications will be a major plus
• Prior experience in developing or validating display technologies such as MIPI DSI, CSI, Display Port or HDMI would be a major plus
• Prior experience with multimedia solutions such as image, video, mpeg; security solutions such as encryption engine, secure boot flow, or algorithm development for image processing or data compression would be a major plus
• Knowledge of embedded processor and firmware operation, processor sub-system, such as ARM cortex-A/M/R or RISC-V would be major plus
• Familiarity with interface peripherals, such as Ethernet/PCIe/I2S/ SPI/ I2C would be a plus
• Prior experience in SOC validation, emulation platforms, hardware testing and debugging, resolving customer issues, familiarity with lab equipment such as oscilloscope, logic analyser etc would certainly be an advantage
• Good communication and documentation skill, with proven experience of collaboration with architecture, software, firmware, design and validation teams
• Familiarity with Matlab, C/C++, System-C, VHDL/Verilog, Python, or relevant programming language

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be working on:

• Partner with software engineers and other functions to understand objectives for development delivery efficiency and system resiliency, helping them articulate how specific technical capabilities and best practices will achieve key business outcomes.

• Conduct comprehensive assessments of the existing technical landscapes, workflows, and processes to identify inefficiencies, pain points, and gaps that hinder their goals.

• Collaborate with client to identify the most relevant practices (e.g., CI/CD, SRE) for using Core Engineering Products in achieving their goals, considering unique needs and industry best practices.

• Develop transition roadmaps that outline a clear path from the current state to the desired future state, including the adoption of recommended tools and processes.

• Explain complex concepts clearly to various stakeholders, providing actionable recommendations for improving workflows and addressing their challenges, and providing supporting diagrams as needed.

• Support client with proof of concept (POC) initiatives to validate solutions, offering hands-on assistance during early implementation phases to enable smooth transitions to full-scale rollouts.

• Collaborate closely with fellow Software Engineers to exchange insights, share tools and scripts, and foster a collaborative environment that supports continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

What we are looking for:

• 6+ years in an individual contributor software engineering role.

• Experience with NodeJs with TypeScript.

• Experience with one or more of Cloud Service Providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Experience building cron jobs and scripts to run batch jobs.

• Experience with streaming data.

• Strong track record of successful large-scale partner solution implementations, preferably in complex enterprise environments

• Exceptional communication skills with ability to bridge technical discussions between internal teams and external partners

• Experience working in highly secured and air gap systems is a plus (i.e. banking, government systems and similar)

Overview
The job holder is responsible to provide sterile and reusable surgical instrument and equipment by demonstrating competence in all aspects of sterile processing: Receiving, sorting, decontamination, inspection, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of the sterile items to operation theatres, SOC, in-patient wards and procedural rooms.

Job Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities (80%):
• Receive, sort, decontaminate, inspect, pack, sterilize, storage and distribute surgical items
• Load and operate washer-disinfectors, dryers, ultrasonic washer and sterilizers
• Perform and evaluate sterilizer test indicators
• Perform inventory of all sterile linen and surgical consumables supplies
• Issue sterile supplies to all ORs
• Perform cleaning of TSSU storage area
• Demonstrate proper use and care of equipment
• Report defective equipment and take appropriate action To repair or replace
• Identify and notifies In-charge of instruments that need To be repaired/ replaced
• Ensure daily cleaning of Decom area
• Facilitate smooth running of activities within the TSSU
• Communicate and handover essential information and critical events To colleagues in-charge
Secondary Responsibilities (20%):
• Participate in clinical and service quality activities as required
• Demonstrate awareness of current health care practices
