Job Summary
The Technical Superintendent ensures technical performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance of assigned vessels by overseeing maintenance, repairs, and dry-docking projects while managing budgets and coordinating with shipyards and contractors.
Responsibilities
- Oversee maintenance and repair activities to ensure vessel machinery operates efficiently and reliably
- Monitor vessel technical performance and implement strategies to optimize machinery efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Provide technical guidance and support to shipboard and shore personnel to maintain compliance with class, flag state, and international regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW).
- Plan, manage, and supervise dry-docking projects, coordinating with shipyards and contractors to meet timelines and quality standards.
- Control and manage technical budgets to ensure cost-effective vessel operations and maintenance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by adopting modern technologies and best practices across the fleet.
- Manage multiple vessels, vendors, and stakeholders effectively to ensure smooth technical operations.
- Utilize Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS), Safety Management Systems (SMS), and marine procurement systems to support maintenance and compliance activities.
- Communicate technical information clearly and prepare reports to support decision-making and negotiation processes.
Required competencies and certifications
- Engineer (Class 5) certification or equivalent seagoing experience
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience as a Technical Superintendent or similar shore-based role in the bunker industry in Singapore
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Experience sailing on Bunker Tankers in Singapore
