About the Role

Reporting to the VP of New Product Development within the CTO organisation, the ‘Head of Design Management – Experience’ will build, lead, and inspire a new team of Experience-led Design Managers at Dyson. This role is accountable for defining and delivering exceptional end-to-end user experiences across all Dyson categories—including Robotics, Environmental Care, Floorcare, Beauty, and emerging new categories.

As a senior advocate for the user at Dyson, you’ll set the strategy, standards, and vision for what ‘world-class user experience’ means in a constantly evolving market. You’ll shape the team, guide high-profile programmes, and influence senior decision makers, ensuring our products deliver against Dyson’s ambition for innovation, delight, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of ‘Design Manager – Experience’ experts, fostering a culture of excellence, curiosity, and continuous growth.

• Set and maintain the vision, standards and strategy for a best-in-class user experience across both physical and digital journeys.

• Champion the voice of the user at all stages—from concept to daily use—ensuring that user insight drives decision-making, feature definition, and innovation.

• Guide, coach, and set the direction for your team, supporting individual development, training, setting measurable goals, and ensuring high performance.

• Define and drive the ‘Design Management – Experience’ function—hiring, training, and inspiring the team while embedding new processes and ways of working.

• Own and oversee all elements of end-to-end user experience across Dyson’s categories, ensuring consistency, innovation, and measurable impact.

• Lead and inspire cross-functional project teams, aligning Engineering, Design, Digital, Commercial and Supply Chain with user-centred goals.

• Define and embed requirements for data, analytics, and feedback mechanisms to ensure user insights shape ongoing and future product development.

• Benchmark Dyson’s product experiences against industry leaders, translating global trends into new opportunities and standards.

• Proactively identify opportunities to deliver new, future-facing user experiences that are inventive, differentiated, and defend Dyson’s position as innovation leader.

• Present strategy, progress, and user insights to C-level stakeholders, influencing investment and buy-in across the company.

• Hold accountability for the delivery of user experience objectives—on time, to specification, and within agreed cost and quality criteria.

• Cultivate relationships with global stakeholders, commercial teams, and external partners to extend Dyson’s user experience ambition.

About the role

As an Lead Design Engineer, you will be focussed on developing technology and features to integrate onto our partner platform robots. Within Upstream Robotics you will be a crucial member of a dynamic team to help meet and exceed the requirements of our products and embedded technologies to ensure a strong pipeline of innovative concept for Dyson. You will be working closely with other engineers, designers, scientists, specialists, downstream teams, and other cross functional teams to create and develop new features, technologies, product formats and business cases for projects in our portfolio.

What we need you to do…

• Initiate & develop innovative product ideas and concepts from scratch by identifying market opportunities from a blank sheet of paper & drive integration onto partner platforms.
• Create and iterate prototypes and concept models quickly using handmade or 3D printed parts to evaluate feasibility and user value via experiment.
• Analyse & review test results with teams in NPI Home and/or Research to understand what improves performance and collaborate with technical and non-technical colleagues, as well as suppliers to develop scalable and robust technologies.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering technical growth and improving engineering quality through proactive leadership.
• Influence stakeholders across the business with clear communication while owning and leading key sub-assemblies and initiatives.
• Take ownership of engineering challenges, resolving issues thoroughly with a focus on technical excellence and accountability.
• Own/contribute to team/department level initiatives & change projects.

About you

• An expert in either cleaning systems or robotic mechanism design, —including both simulation and physical testing, —to implement and evaluate innovative solutions for dry and/or wet cleaning.
• A degree in a relevant engineering or product design discipline (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum of six years of experience in engineering or product development, with a focus on prototyping, concept development, and iterative problem-solving.
• Proven ability to develop early-stage concepts into working prototypes, using hands-on rig-building and creative methods to evaluate feasibility and performance.
• A genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for creating user-focused and commercially impactful products that challenge the status quo.
• Strong understanding of either cleaning performance principles (vacuuming, mopping, or pick-up systems) or design of robotic mechanisms with experience in both physical and simulated testing to drive innovative ideas.
• Ability to guide and mentor younger team members while contributing to cross-functional teams with technical and personal credibility.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and lead discussions across disciplines and with business stakeholders.
• Solid experience with mechanical design principles, including 3D CAD, prototyping, and validation through simulation and lab testing.

About the role

As a Design Engineer, you will support the design, development, and delivery of technologically advanced Dyson products within our global Research, Design and Development (RD&D) organisation. You will work within the Design Engineering function, contributing to system‑level product development and collaborating with multiple engineering disciplines to deliver integrated solutions from concept through to start of production.

The role requires strong engineering breadth, as designs interface closely with electronics, power systems, sensing, and software. You will operate within international and cross‑site project teams, supporting products developed for global markets.

Key responsibilities include:

• Delivering product designs and assemblies to production, meeting performance, reliability, safety, quality, cost, and timeline requirements.

• Developing mechanical designs that integrate effectively with electromechanical systems, electronics, and embedded interfaces.

• Supporting the full product development lifecycle, including concept development, detailed design, prototyping, testing, validation, industrialisation, and SOP.

• Participating in technical design reviews and contributing to system‑level engineering discussions with Technical Leads and Engineering Managers.

• Building and evaluating functional prototypes, defining test approaches, analysing results, and driving design iteration through evidence‑based decisions.

• Collaborating closely with cross‑functional teams including Electronics, Software, Systems Engineering, Quality, and Global Operations.

• Supporting manufacturing introduction and resolving technical issues through structured analysis and engineering judgement.

• Working effectively with globally distributed and multicultural teams, adapting communication style to different technical and cultural contexts.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will be a motivated Design Engineer with strong mechanical fundamentals, capable of working across disciplines and contributing to complex, integrated product systems.

It will be advantageous if you have:

• A degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

• Strong mechanical design capability, with demonstrated exposure to electromechanical systems, electronics, power systems, sensing, or software interfaces.

• Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering teams on technically complex products.

• Practical knowledge of 3D CAD, engineering drawings, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.

• Experience with prototyping, testing, and iterative design development using data to inform decisions.

• Exposure to multiple stages of the product development lifecycle, from concept through to production or industrialisation.

• Understanding of manufacturing and industrialisation principles, including DFM, DFA, and high‑volume production constraints.

• Experience working on international projects or within global teams, with the ability to operate effectively in multicultural environments.

Acting as a developer platform product engineer, you will remove manual effort, reduce human error and improve productivity by translating operational pain points into robust, Python‑based automation and services.
