Job Description

The Mechanobiology Institute (MBI) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is a leading multi-disciplinary institute devoted to developing new paradigms for understanding biological functions in health and diseases from the perspective of cell, tissue and organ mechanics/dynamics and mechano-signal transduction. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Fellow to join our multidisciplinary team investigating the biophysical and mechanochemical properties of signalling proteins on 3D shaped membranes. The successful candidate will work at the interface of membrane biophysics, cell signalling, and nanofabrication-based membrane curvature control, contributing to a broader effort to understand how membrane environment regulates protein activation and signalling at the cellular and molecular levels.

Responsibilities will include:

• Leading independent and collaborative research on curvature-regulated protein activation and signaling on membranes
• Developing and applying nanofabricated platforms (e.g., nanopillars, nanobars, nanorings) to probe membrane curvature effects
• Performing in vitro reconstitution (e.g., supported lipid bilayers, phase separation systems) and live-cell assays (e.g., T cell signaling)
• Utilizing advanced imaging techniques (e.g., confocal, TIRF, SIM, STED) and quantitative image analysis
• Building and implementing computational pipelines for image quantification and biophysical analysis
• Contributing to high-impact publications, grant writing, and mentoring of junior researchers

Qualifications

• PhD in Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Strong background in membrane protein biochemistry, membrane biophysics, membrane modulation (ideally magnetic tweezer and micropipette manipulation), or single-molecule techniques.
• Experience with reconstitution of proteins into model membranes (e.g., liposomes, GUVs, supported bilayers) is highly desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications.

Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a passion for medical research to oversee the development of a novel non-adherent traumatic wound dressing. The candidate will work with a team of business development managers, regulatory specialists, and manufacturing engineers to prepare the product for commercialization. This will involve the robust characterization of the product for its mechanical, biocompatibility, procoagulant and wet adhesive properties, among others. The study will involve a broad range of in vitro testing following industry standards, alongside large animal validation studies (non-GLP and GLP, non-survival and survival). Other duties include the management of the laboratory (safety and logistics), supervision of students (undergraduate and graduate) and contribution to research grants preparation.

Qualifications

•    Possess a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or equivalent.

ADVANCE ID is jointly funded by the Wellcome Trust and Singapore institutions including the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health and Yong Loo Lin School ofMedicine, National University of Singapore. The vision of the Network is to improve public health by developing the clinical evidence base for the prevention and treatmentof drug-resistant infections. Its mission is to build and sustain a strategic clinical research network focussed on most efficiently delivering locally relevant interventions for drug-resistant infections.

The Network aims to improve and strengthen clinical research capabilities in the regionby acting as a platform to develop good principles and practices. It will stabilise capacityand capabilities to mitigate inefficiencies in trial start-up phase and loss of skillset following study closure, as in typical trial setup. The research aims to develop an online framework for assessing fatigue, structural integrity, and operability of multiple floating offshore wind turbines, supported by computationally efficient learning algorithms with predictive (prognostic) capabilities. The system enables prescriptive decision-making that can be integrated with operation and maintenance strategies. 3. Publishing – You’ll share your knowledge by writing articles and producing videos, so that your students can continue to learn from you outside of the classroom.
4. Communication – You’ll communicate with parents on their children’s learning progress and make appropriate recommendations on how to improve further.

Rigorous training is provided during your first 9 months at The Pique Lab, which is aimed at increasing your confidence and expertise as a Primary Science Teacher.

You will start your career with us by undergoing the Teaching Associate Programme where you'll learn plenty of valuable teaching skills:

• Content Mastery: Solidify your fundamentals in the Primary Science syllabus by learning key concepts & examination question types. Understand how to apply a variety of answering techniques to tackle questions effectively.
• Attention Control: Discover how to make your lessons come alive, such that your students never get bored of them. Dive deep into delivery technicals such as coherency, clarity, tempo, gestures, expression and humour.
• Class Control: Pick up effective classroom management strategies, so that you're able to maintain a fun, yet disciplined teaching approach with your students.
• Performance Management: Learn how to use cues effectively to instil a stronger sense of confidence in your students & help them develop a stronger affinity for Science.
• Communicating With Parents: Understand how to communicate with parents, such that they are supportive and appreciative of your work.

After you've achieved mastery in your fundamentals, you can look forward to explore various career pathways (Specialist Track & Management Track) where we'll work closely with you to spearhead projects or manage teams.

We’d love to have a chat with you if you meet the following criteria:

Required:

• Strong Background in Science: You should have a strong understanding in the subject matter - not just at the university level, but at a primary/secondary level, and hence be able to simplify complex Science concepts.
• Prior Teaching Experience: You should have some experience in teaching, not strictly limited to Science - be it commercial experience (e.g. teaching in MOE schools, tuition centres or private 1-1 classes) OR volunteering experience (e.g. coaching kids in after-school care centres).

Good to have:

• A Positive, Confident & Engaging Personality: You need to be comfortable engaging students at a group level & infuse joy and laughter in your lessons.
• Grit and Drive to Succeed: You must be committed to mastery and be willing to put in the hard work. You should have a clear idea on what you intend to pursue in your career, at least for the next 3 to 5 years,
• Ability to learn fast and think on your feet: You will be expected to pick up and apply strategies and techniques taught to you quickly, especially during the training period.

1. We respect your time commitment with us. As such, you'll be paid full salary, even during your training period.
2. There are no part-time teaching positions due to the amount of resources required to groom teachers to excellence.
3. We specialise only in Primary Science and will continue to deepen our expertise in this area within the next 3 to 5 years. If you're only keen to teach Mathematics or English, we're probably not a good fit for you.
