Role Summary

RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for a Ingot & Wafer (IW) cum Contract Manufacturing Engineer with good ethics and strong passion to take on proactive roles of qualifying and managing external suppliers to achieve company's strategic directions and key yearly goals for ingot and wafer factory. This position requires good analytical and interpersonal skills to work with external suppliers to achieve continuous improvements in IW cost, yield and cell efficiency by implementing best known methods. Selected candidates will work closely with the Process/Integration/QA and Planning team to define all the necessary process and Quality Control procedures to meet product functional and reliability requirements. This entry-level development opportunity offers you the chance to study towards nationally recognized qualifications while gaining hands-on, paid on-the-job training. Our apprentices attend polytechnic part-time studying towards a Diploma in Applied Science (Pharmaceutical Sciences) while working at a GSK Vaccines Manufacturing facility in Singapore.

You will also receive a Work-Study certificate from our partnering polytechnic, a nationally recognised credential that certifies occupational proficiency.

You will spend most of your week working in our manufacturing facility learning how to operate and maintain the different equipment and utility systems that support our vaccines production from our in-house industry experts. You will learn safety and risk management to ensure all equipment is operated safely and efficiently. Over the 30 months of the apprenticeship, you will have a personal training programme to help you develop and progress.

What will you do?

As a Biotech apprentice, you may get involved in the following activities:

• Learning about Good Manufacturing Practices and safety requirements

• Learn about our process/operations to ensure processes are completed reliably

• Be trained/qualified in all procedures and training required for performing operations

• Learn and perform key computer applications and maintenance of records

• Ensuring quality, safety and accuracy in all that we do

• Supporting routine preventive maintenance activities

• Coordination with other department / colleagues to ensure supply and operations continuity

The Career Conversion Programme (CCP) (Attach-and-Train) for Advanced Biopharmaceuticals Manufacturing Executives/Professionals is a talent development programme aimed at building the next generation of skilled manpower for Singapore’s Biopharmaceuticals manufacturing industry in anticipation of hiring demand.

Role Description:

Set-up, maintain and repair Pilot Plant Equipment and Instrument to maximise plant availability and minimise product changeover times within the framework of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and EHS.
 

Trainee to be involved in:

• Responsible for trouble shooting and repairing all instruments and equipment in the Pilot Plant

• Decide on the trouble shooting approach to be taken and determine whether external resources (i.e. mechanical, instrument, automation or electrical) are required

• Coordinate external resources, to trouble shoot and repair equipment and instruments

• Perform routine preventative maintenance activities

• Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out safely, cost effectively and to a very high quality

• Assist Mechanical Technicians in disassembling and re-assembling activities associated with equipment cleanouts to allow product changeovers

• Calibrate and set-up instruments prior to new product campaigns.

• Install and set-up instruments associated with mobile Pilot Plant equipment

• Carry out implementation activities for minor plant modifications and capital projects, in line with defined specifications and budget

• Communicate with the Shift Superintendent to prioritise the various maintenance and troubleshooting activities to be performed and report on the progress of all actions and on any escalation activities performed

• Liaise with shift-based Instrument Technicians on other plants, as well as with mechanical and electrical technicians, the Automation Team and external contractors when external maintenance resources are required

• Recommend spares to be kept as stock and tools to be purchased.

• Take personal responsibility for quality in all aspects of maintenance work that impact product quality

• All work to be carried out in accordance to the permit-to-work system

• Prepare Instrument trouble shooting and maintenance procedures.

• Train the Pilot Plant Mechanical Technicians in basic Instrument maintenance and trouble shooting activities

• Ensure the cost effectiveness of all maintenance jobs by initiating and implementing Lean Sigma activities focusing on instrument reliability and maintenance standardisation

• Provide timely technical advice to other departments to assist in continuous improvement processes

• Ability to interpret and apply Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) knowledge

We are looking for you with below attributes:

• NTC/ITC/Diploma in Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences or Bio-processing related disciplines

What you will learn:

• Demonstrate commitment to cGMP, EHS compliance aspects of clean-room plant operation

• Excellent self-motivated team player with hands-on attitude and good communication skills

• Ability to understand, apply and evaluate basic chemistry, biology and physical principles
