The Senior Packaging Engineer will lead packaging development and qualification activities for WD's HDD and Flash storage products. This is a technically hands-on and cross-functional leadership role — you will mentor junior engineers, drive complex packaging programs, and interface directly with customers, suppliers, and global engineering teams.

You are expected to operate with high autonomy, make independent technical decisions, and represent the Packaging Engineering function in NPI and sustaining programs.

Key Responsibilities : 
Technical Leadership

• Lead end-to-end packaging design, development, and qualification for complex HDD/Flash programs
• Define packaging architecture and material strategy for new and sustaining products
• Make independent technical decisions on packaging design trade-offs (cost vs. protection vs. sustainability)
• Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for packaging within cross-functional teams

Design & Qualification

• Own packaging qualification plans and test execution per ISTA/ASTM standards
• Review and approve packaging specifications, BOMs, and qualification reports
• Lead Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and deviation requests
• Drive DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFA (Design for Assembly) reviews

NPI & Program Management

• Lead packaging workstream for NPI programs from concept to mass production
• Manage packaging milestones and deliverables within program timelines
• Interface with global product teams, customers, and contract manufacturers

Vendor & Supply Chain

• Develop and qualify new packaging suppliers in Malaysia/ASEAN
• Lead supplier performance reviews and cost negotiation
• Drive packaging cost reduction (cost down) initiatives

People & Mentorship

• Mentor and coach junior/mid-level packaging engineers
• Conduct technical reviews and provide guidance on complex issues
• Support team capability building and knowledge sharing

Compliance & Sustainability

• Ensure all packaging meets regulatory requirements (RoHS, REACH, ISTA)
• Champion WD sustainability goals through eco-packaging innovation
• Maintain quality documentation per WD QMS standards

Continuous Improvement

• Lead RCCA for field packaging failures and damage incidents
• Drive Lean/Six Sigma improvement projects within packaging function
• Benchmark industry trends and propose technology upgrades

BROAD FUNCTIONS :

• To audit sputter parameters and practice periodically, include online SPC and procedure conformance.
• To lead sputter process related issues trouble shooting (common causes), work closely with shift process team in sputter process sustaining, trouble shooting & improvement in order to achieve sputter utilization (down time), yield & quality goal.
• To lead Sputter Process Improvement Projects (SU/STT/Cost/Quality/PPH & others), which include new products/machines/process qualification.
• To lead, supervise and coach/train process tech, include engineering specialist and characterize technicians.

• Responsible to lead, supervise and coach/train process tech, include engineering specialist and characterize technicians. Responsible to train and share PMR/DS sputter process and yield improvement knowledge with the team.
• Responsible for sputter parameters monitoring, include online SPC monitoring and procedure conformance.

Irregular

• Responsible to assist in sputter yield related issues trouble shooting (common causes). Work closely with Anelva yield team in sputter yield sustaining, trouble shooting & improvement in order to achieve sputter yield goal. This includes 0725 Operation Yield Improvement.

• Improve Media magnetic baseline: ACC% and to enable process stability and repeatability via recipe tuning and optimization. Responsible for new product qualifications.

• Develop and execute contamination sampling plans for cleanroom environmental, equipment, tools, and process samples to ensure cleanliness and prevent yield-impacting defects.                            
• Perform routine and event-based environmental and equipment sampling to support operational readiness and cleanroom classification.                                
• Manage handling and qualification of cleanroom indirect materials by setting cleanliness criteria, performing inspections, and approving materials for use.                                   
• Define cleanroom protocols, including gowning, behavior, and contamination prevention practices, and provide training to ensure compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage and Lead shift worker to meet manufacturing KPIs. Assisting the Production Manager in managing and executing production operations. Lead a group of Sr Technician and operators to ensure that production lines run without any problems, with zero operation execution failure, minimize unplan downtime, products are manufactured to a required quality standard and adheres to customer/safety/industry-related regulations.

Job Summary:

Supervisor with a job function  plays a leadership role managing from Test and bagging area, ensuring efficient manpower, meeting performance, mentoring junior technicians, and working closely with Supporting team engineers to optimize production and process improvements.

Leadership & Supervision:

• Lead  a group of shift coordinators to ensure smooth daily operations.
• Lead the team in ensuring process KPIV/KPOV, Quality and Safety KPI’s are in control
• Prepare and review pass-down reports for the incoming shift.
• Act as a backup for Operation Manager when needed.
• Mentor and train all level Technicians level and new hires.
• Conduct Daily Production Meeting and report out on daily basis.
• Assist in executing Management programs/events relates to manufacturing operator/technicians.

Production & Process Optimization:

• Monitor machine utilization and performance to meet output expectations.
• Familiar and utilize the Spotfire, DDA, Factory Look, Statistical tools in the daily jobs.
• Execute On Hold if any quality issue triggered.
• Work with engineers to qualify new products and processes.
• Support product conversion activity and process evaluations.
• Able to manage to clear over-WIP inventory.
• Work together with Test Engineers if facing any issue related to test operation.
• Escalate ahead to relevant PIC and management on any issues foresee.
• Make sure all shift staffs are comply to all the rules, regulation and adhere to SOP during work hours.

Technical & Quality Assurance:

• Perform MESA transactions, including yield loss, WIP maintenance and tracking.
• Ensure full compliance with IMS/RBA standards and set an example for all employees.
• Lead line audits and 7S housekeeping enforcement.
• Identify and implement process improvements in collaboration with engineers.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Participate in engineering improvement projects and provide technical insights.
• Participate in engineering discussions on FMEA, 8D, and SPC.
• Support cross-functional areas and take on multiple activites responsibilities.
• Assist in preparing and submitting qualification samples and data reports.
