JOB DESCRIPTION :

1. To head the technical department of Port Klang, Merlimau, Pasir Gudang (thinner blending section) and Ipoh.

2. Supervising Senior Chemist and Chemist on R&D work.

3. Report chemical division research and development to Deputy General Manager and Executive director.

4. Report building division research and development to Deputy General Manager and Executive Director.

5. Supervising for QA and QC matter.

6. Design new product brochure, packing/label and prepare specification for building material.

7. Assist Sales department on customer service/complaint and technical support.

8. Provide advice on trouble-shooting for production.

9. Liaise with sales department for exploring on new product.

10. Assist sales department or management on technical issue for new market.

11. Prepare technical document if necessary for other business company requested by management.

12. Conduct technical orientation to new chemist and sales.

COMPETENCY LEVEL :

1. Minimum university degree in chemistry or chemistry related field. For example: applied chemistry, industry chemistry, etc.

2. Minimum 5 years working experience in company as senior chemist level or above or equivalent designation with similar field of business at other company.

3. Possess good technical knowledge on company’s product and related products.

4. Able to lead the team and manage subordinate.

5. Good analytical skill, resourceful on similar product.

6. Fluent in English and Malay languages. Good command of Chinese language is an added advantage.

This position will support Hard Coat and Anti Fog Product Development projects to build a commercially viable functional coating product pipeline in alignment with SDC business goals.

Responsibilities:

• Lead or assist projects in product development milestone attainment including competitive benchmarking, product formulation and optimization, establishment of manufacturing control plan for scale-up and production
• Screen and qualify alternative key raw materials to facilitate sustained supply of functional coating and film products
• Generate ideas and proofs-of-concept for new technologies for proprietary product and intellectual property development
• Leverage new and innovative building blocks to accelerate development of proprietary value-added functional coatings
• Provide support for development of new equipment, formulas, processes, and methods for solution of technical problems.
• Provide investigation support on newly developed and scale-up manufactured products to improve quality by research into composition, structure, properties, relationships, and reactions of matter
• Confer with Vendors, Scientists and Engineers regarding product development
• Prepare standards and specifications for processes, instruments, products and tests
• Document and communicate effectively internally with cross-functional teams

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field and minimum two years Coatings and Specialty Chemicals industry experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Familiarity with a variety of Chemical Coatings Industry’s concepts, practices, and procedures
• Stay current with outside growth of technology, including new coating building blocks and processes
• Highly self-motivated with good presentation skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel
• Willing to work at Tuas South

The Role

As a Production Chemist in our R&D team, you bridge lab innovation with commercial manufacturing — turning formulations into scalable, high-quality products. You’ll develop new formulations, optimize processes, and ensure strong standards in safety, quality, and compliance. You will run experiments, support scale-up, troubleshoot production issues, ensure compliance, and manage pilot trials. Key responsibilities include:

• Formulation Development: Develop new and improve existing products
• Process Scale-Up: Translate lab formulations into consistent manufacturing processes
• Quality & Compliance: Establish SOPs, support validation and ensure compliance
• Production Support: Troubleshoot issues, optimize yields, and uphold safety standards
• Technical Analysis: Perform analytical testing (e.g., chromatography, spectroscopy)

Requirement

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
• Over 2 years of hands-on experience in a chemical lab or manufacturing environment
• Proficient with production equipment, with strong analytical and documentation skills
