Job Description

Positions are available for Research Engineers, Research Assistants, and Ph.D. students in the research group of Prof. Soh Siow Ling, at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).  

The group’s general program of research involves the coupling of organic materials, mechanical forces, and electrostatics at different interfaces (e.g., solid, liquid, or gas). This coupling is currently greatly under-explored and poorly understood in science. At the same time, the coupling gives rise to many fascinating new natural phenomena for exciting fundamental discoveries and development of impactful and original technologies. 

The general approach of the group is to conduct original programs and new directions of research with strong fundamental science. The group is highly interdisciplinary and involves engineering (e.g., fluid mechanics), materials science, chemistry, and physics. Different organic materials are used, including polymers (e.g., stimuli-responsive polymers), hydrogels, and covalent organic frameworks (COFs). 

One project involves an original system that harvests water energy from nature (e.g., rain and rivers) and directly generates electricity by solid-liquid charge separation with high energy conversion efficiency. Other projects involve clearing virus-laden atmospheric aerosols and preventing the spread of infectious diseases (e.g., COVID-19) and development of clean surfaces that do not adhere any dust on them. Another research involves stimuli-responsive polymers for small molecular separation, smart delivery, and intelligent soft machines.

A recent exciting and emerging field from our group is the development of novel mechanocatalysts for performing mechanochemical reactions with high energy conversion efficiency. Harvesting energy from mechanical forces of nature (e.g., wind or water flows) is a novel and sustainable approach to performing chemical reactions. 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is preferably someone open-minded to conducting original fields of research, independent, and hardworking. Because the research of the group is highly interdisciplinary and many projects in different disciplines are ongoing, candidates with a Bachelor’s degree from a wide range of backgrounds will be considered for different projects, including engineering (e.g., chemical, mechanical, etc), materials science, chemistry, and physics.

What you will do:

Summary

The role is responsible for supporting the operation, maintenance, and performance monitoring of Distributed Generation assets in Singapore, with a focus on special projects.

This is a technical and site coordination role, requiring hands-on support in asset monitoring, maintenance execution, HSE documentation, contractor coordination, inventory management, quality checks, and stakeholder coordination.

The role supports safe, reliable, and cost-effective asset operations in line with company standards and contractual obligations.

Responsibilities

1. DG Asset Operations & Monitoring

• Monitor asset operations to ensure systems are operating within expected technical and performance conditions.
• Track asset availability, generation output, alarms, equipment condition, and key operating parameters.
• Identify operational issues, underperformance, or equipment abnormalities and escalate where required.
• Support implementation of maintenance policies and standards to optimise asset performance, reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

2. Maintenance Planning & Site Execution

• Coordinate and implement O&M procedures and standard maintenance plans with internal teams and service contractors.
• Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities to ensure timely and safe completion of works.
• Liaise with HSE officers, subcontractors, suppliers, logistics partners, and internal stakeholders for work execution.
• Prepare HSE and work execution documents, including risk assessments, method statements, work instructions, and permit-related documentation.
• Ensure maintenance works are carried out in accordance with company standards, site requirements, and safety procedures.

3. Contractor, Inventory & Warranty Support

• Coordinate with service contractors and suppliers to ensure works are completed according to agreed scope, timeline, quality, and safety requirements.
• Manage O&M inventory to ensure critical spare parts, equipment, and materials are available when required.
• Provide relevant technical inputs to the Back Office team and Cluster Leads for equipment warranty claims.
• Support tracking of contractor deliverables, maintenance records, spare parts usage, and site documentation.

4. Quality, Compliance & Project Support

• Conduct quality assurance and quality checks on ongoing works to ensure compliance with technical standards and project requirements.
• Support testing and commissioning activities for newly installed or modified assets.
• Ensure adherence to contractual obligations under the supervision of the Asset Manager and Cluster Lead.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and asset performance.

5. Stakeholder Coordination & Reporting

• Maintain regular engagement with relevant internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, site representatives, and asset management teams.
• Prepare maintenance updates, site reports, action trackers, and operational documentation.
• Support other Asset Operations activities, special projects, or assignments as required by management.

Requirements 

• Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Renewable Energy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Relevant experience in solar PV operations, maintenance, electrical systems, facilities management, or renewable energy asset operations.
• Knowledge of DG solar PV systems, electrical equipment, monitoring systems, and O&M practices is preferred.
• Familiarity with HSE documentation, risk assessments, method statements, permit-to-work processes, and site safety requirements.
• Experience coordinating contractors, suppliers, logistics partners, and site activities.
• Able to monitor asset performance, identify technical issues, and support troubleshooting or escalation.
• Good coordination, reporting, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proactive, hands-on, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented.
• Comfortable supporting special projects and varied site requirements across Singapore.
• Practical and hands-on technical professional with strong site coordination discipline.
• Able to work with contractors and internal teams to ensure safe and timely work execution.
• Detail-oriented in documentation, quality checks, and maintenance tracking.
• Flexible and willing to support non-standard DG assets, special projects, and evolving operational priorities.

• Provide technical guidance and training to project teams on quality standards and procedures.
• Promote continuous improvement and quality awareness across project teams.

YOUR NEW JOB

As a Security Implementation Engineer, you will work alongside senior consultants and project teams to deliver successful implementations of Google SecOps and/or SentinelOne platforms, ensuring customers are onboarded effectively and solutions are configured according to project requirements.
You will support the deployment, configuration, and implementation of modern cybersecurity solutions across enterprise customer environments.
This is a 12-month renewable contract role based with one of the region's leading technology & systems integrators.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

• Support the implementation and deployment of Google SecOps and/or SentinelOne solutions for enterprise customers
• Assist with solution configuration, onboarding, and integration activities
• Participate in customer workshops, requirement gathering, and technical discussions
• Perform testing, validation, and troubleshooting during implementation projects
• Document implementation procedures, technical configurations, and deployment activities
• Work closely with project managers, senior engineers, and customer stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery
• Provide post-implementation support and issue resolution where required
• Stay updated on product features, cybersecurity trends, and vendor best practices

WHAT IS NEEDED FROM YOU

• At least 1 year of hands-on experience with Google SecOps and/or SentinelOne solutions
• 1–3 years of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, or systems implementation experience
• Basic understanding of SIEM, endpoint security, threat detection, and security operations concepts
• Experience supporting technical deployments, implementations, or system integrations
• Familiarity with Windows, Linux, networking, and cloud environments
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field
