As our Hosting Systems Engineer you’ll be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and managing the infrastructure that powers web services, applications, and customer data. This role sits at the intersection of system administration, infrastructure, and cloud technology, ensuring that hosted systems remain available, secure, and efficient. 

Within this role responsibilities will include the management and optimisation of NEXTDC computing and storage infrastructure, including Active Directory, Windows (and/or other systems) Server environments, and Hyper-V virtualisation. The role will drive the overall health and performance of NEXTDC systems, designing solutions for scalability and high availability, supporting Azure integrations, and managing storage solutions. ​

Your scope will cover:

• Designing and implementing scalable solutions for Windows Server environments (2016, 2019, 2022), Active Directory, and Hyper-V virtualisation
• Overseeing the architecture, maintenance, and optimisation of Group Policies, DNS, DHCP, and FSMO roles
• Developing and testing disaster recovery plans, manage backups (SAN), configure failover clusters, and ensure minimal downtime in case of system failures
• Monitoring system health for reliability, scalability, and security and provide advanced troubleshooting for complex system issues; identify and resolve performance bottlenecks
• Leading automation initiatives using PowerShell to streamline system management and improve operational efficiency
• Executing security measures, including role-based access control, encryption (BitLocker), and compliance with auditing standards
• Performing patch management using WSUS or SCCM, ensuring secure and timely deployment of updates and addressing vulnerabilities

Your technical skillset will include:

• Strong knowledge of Linux, Unix, and Windows Server systems
• Proficient in Windows Server administration and Active Directory management
• Expertise in Hyper-V, storage solutions (SAN, NAS, iSCSI, RAID), and PowerShell scripting
• Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, VPN, firewalls), patch management (WSUS, SCCM), and security tools (Windows Defender, role-based access control)

As our DevOps Engineer - Networks you’ll be responsible for designing, building, and operating the initial network automation, monitoring, and tooling stack for IT and OT network operations in the data centre. In this role you’ll establish first generation scripts, pipelines, standards, and documentation to move the organisation from manual operations to automated, code driven network practices, under support from the Network & Security Operations team.

Within this position, your scope will cover:

• Designing and implementing the first generation of network automation playbooks, scripts, and templates for standard changes, provisioning, and configuration compliance across IT and OT networks
• Selecting and implementing initial toolchain components (e.g. Git repository, CI/CD tool, Ansible/Terraform, basic test frameworks) defining how they will be used by the operations team
• Establishing and configuring core network monitoring and logging for the data centre (devices onboarded, alert rules, dashboards, basic SLOs) and integrating where possible with ITSM/CMDB/DCIM platforms
• Define and document standard operating procedures and runbooks for using automation and tools (how to request changes, how pipelines work, how to roll back)
• Support incident and problem management by providing tooling, diagnostics scripts, and data exports to accelerate root cause analysis and post incident reviews

Your technical skillset will include:

• Strong practical Python and shell scripting skills to build automation, small tools, and integrations without existing frameworks
• Hands on experience setting up at least one network automation/IaC stack (e.g. Ansible + Git + CI, or Terraform based workflows) from an early stage starting point
• Configuration and onboarding devices into monitoring/logging platforms (e.g. SolarWinds/PRTG, Prometheus/Grafana, Elastic/Splunk), define alert rules, and build useful dashboards
• Switching, routing, firewalls, and VPN in data centre or enterprise networks, including HA and basic segmentation designs
• Designing simple but robust automation patterns and coding standards suitable for use by operations engineers (idempotent changes, rollbacks, safety checks)

• Begin with rotations through core Operations sub-functions, including Engineering, Production, and Process.

• Following the initial Operations rotations, you will have the opportunity to rotate into cross-functional areas such as Supply Chain, Marketing, or Sales. This provides a holistic view, equipping you with business knowledge essential for excelling in Operations.

• Each rotation will vary in length, typically lasting between 2 to 8 months, depending on the scope of the assigned projects and tasks.

• In each rotation, a dedicated manager, in addition to your line manager, will be assigned to provide direct guidance.

• A senior mentor, often a member of the leadership team, will be assigned to support your career development and help you navigate the organization.

• Develop technical, functional, and leadership skills within Operations.
