Centre for Lifelong Learning and Individualised Cognition CLIC is a research collaboration between the University of Cambridge and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and hosted by the Cambridge Centre for Advanced Research and Education in Singapore (CARES) that aims to develop neuroscience-based interventions for lifelong flexible learning. We are seeking a Research Fellow to join a university-level research centre collaborating with industry. The role will be involved in a project that is related to object detection.

Key Responsibilities:

• To independently undertake research on data-efficient object detection with key techniques in few-shot learning, transfer learning, image synthesis, etc.
• To produce research reports and/or publications as required by the funding body or for dissemination to the wider academic community.

Job Requirements:

• PhD degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong background in machine learning and computer vision. Prior experience in data-efficient classification, synthesis, and detection is preferable.
• Strong publication records in top-tier machine learning or computer vision conferences/journals, such as TPAMI, IJCV, CVPR, ICLR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICML.
• Strong coding skills in scientific or engineering software like PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, etc.
• Proven research ability as evidenced through a portfolio of publications and/or conference papers and/or patents.
• Strong background in R&D with self-motivation and initiative. Ability to develop and manage R&D projects with good understanding of industrial needs.
• Strong research and technical expertise in the project domain, including experimental design, modelling methods, prototype system engineering, and laboratory work, with a demonstrated ability to conduct innovative and hypothesis-driven research.

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) is a University Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University Singapore that conducts fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, towards safer and more sustainable societies.

The Climate Transformation Programme (CTP) aims to develop, inspire and accelerate knowledge-based solutions and educate future leaders to establish the stable climate and environment necessary for resilient, just, and sustainable Southeast Asian societies.

CTP will generate knowledge and innovation across disciplines including climate and Earth science, ecology, materials science, artificial intelligence, humanities, social sciences and the arts, finance, health, and engineering. It will also translate state-of-the-art scientific results into real world solutions for Singapore, and it will transfer these solutions to Southeast Asia (SEA) and beyond.

As part of this programme, “Cluster 6. Climate and Human Health”, will predict the future impacts of climate change on human health.

The Research Fellow will work with the PI of the Climate and Human Health cluster, Assoc Prof Konstadina Griva, based in the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, and will lead several projects related to public perceptions of climate change and health, and health communication strategies in the context of climate change.

• Literature searches and manuscript preparation
• Data collection using mixed methodology
• Statistical analyses and evidence synthesis
• Drafting of progress report(s) and final research report
• Research publications and presentations, and dissemination of the results

Project Title: Profiling Academic Trajectories and Heterogeneity of Low-Progress Learners for Enhancing Learning Support (PATHS)

Project Introduction: The PATHS study is a Ministry of Education (MOE)-funded longitudinal investigation tracking 500–600 Primary 1 students enrolled in the Learning Support Programme (LSP) and/or Learning Support for Mathematics (LSM) across 20+ Singapore primary schools. Using person-centred analytic models, the study identifies heterogeneous learner subgroups across cognitive, literacy, mathematical, and socio-emotional domains, and examines how these profiles evolve and predict academic outcomes. Findings will inform more targeted, evidence-based support for low-progress learners.

The Research Assistant will support the day-to-day implementation of this large-scale study under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

Key Responsibilities:

• Liaise with participating primary schools and coordinate day-to-day research operations

• Administer psychoeducational assessments and experimental tasks one-to-one with students

• Distribute, collect, and track parent and teacher questionnaires

• Maintain research records; support data entry, cleaning, and quality checking

• Assist with ethics documentation, literature searches, research reports, and stakeholder materials

• Train and coordinate part-time student research assistants during data collection

• Perform administrative and procurement tasks as required by the Principal Investigator

Job Requirements:

Essential:

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Child Development, Sociology, or a related field

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; good command of spoken and written English - essential for data analysis and communication with stakeholders
