Griffith Review is a strategic and high-profile engagement initiative of Griffith University, A quarterly literary and current affairs journal, Griffith Review published new work from established and emerging writers and thinkers in print and online.

The Senior Editor works alongside the Editor and Editorial Assistant of Griffith Review, and supports the objectives of the publication, by editing (structural and copy) material for print and online publication, managing the journal’s print production process, preparing content for marketing purposes and supporting other activities as required. 

Throughout the publication process, the Senior Editor will liaise with Griffith Review staff, contributors, external and internal stakeholders and suppliers. 

The Senior Editor will work with the Griffith Review team to determine website content, marketing strategies and special projects, contributing to a dynamic publication and events program. 

Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Undertake copyediting and proofreading for the print and online iterations of Griffith Review, and for special projects as required, in line with established procedures, policies and schedules.
• Manage the typesetting and print production for the journal’s quarterly editions, liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
• Communicate with contributors professionally, sensitively and in a timely manner.
• Support the Editor and Editorial Assistant in reviewing and assessing submissions received for print and online call-outs.
• Oversee management of the Griffith Review website, including the upload of new edition content, in consultation with the General Manager and team members.
• Prepare précis of print and online content, and draft marketing copy in line with publication schedules.
• Source images for print and online use, ensuring all rights and permissions are secured.

About you
The successful candidate will hold a degree in writing, editing and publishing, journalism, professional communication, creative writing or related field, with subsequent experience in a print production, editorial, online, digital, design or publishing environment; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and/or training. 

You will also have:

• Demonstrated experience copyediting and proofreading long- and short-form content for print and online, applying established style guides, house style and workflows to deadline.
• Strong command of grammar, structure and tone, with meticulous attention to detail and factual accuracy.
• Experience liaising with contributors, authors and partners with tact and clarity, including handling sensitive edits and meeting competing deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience sourcing images for print and digital use, including negotiating or securing rights and permissions, managing credits, and ensuring compliance with copyright and licensing requirements.
• Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple concurrent deadlines across quarterly cycles, with strong organisational skills and proactive risk management.
• Commitment to editorial excellence, collaborative practice, and respectful, inclusive engagement with contributors and colleagues.

What we can offer
This is a fixed term (12 months), 60% part-time position primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane City (South Bank) Graduate Centre. As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations. Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.

Salary Range
The full-time equivalent base salary for a HEW Level 6 is in the range $94,966 - $101,295 per annum, plus 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $111,110 - $118,515 per annum.

OVERVIEW 

As a Business News Editor, you will lead and manage a team of reporters covering some of the most dynamic and impactful beats in global business: technology, energy, general business news, and careers/workplace trends. With strong news judgment, you will steer coverage that resonates with a global business audience and supports a growing, subscription-focused strategy—prioritizing distinctive, high-value journalism that drives loyalty and repeat engagement.  

This role also carries a strong audience and distribution focus, ensuring that CNBC’s journalism not only breaks news but also reaches and engages audiences where they are, across platforms and formats, with an emphasis on converting and retaining subscribers. You will be a steady, reliable leader, guiding the team through both breaking news and in-depth feature coverage. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

• Lead coverage across tech, general business news, and careers/workplace beats, shaping stories that set the agenda for a global business audience.  

• Be audience and data obsessed, using analytics to inform editorial decisions and optimize story performance.  

• Manage and mentor reporters, providing editorial guidance, feedback, and career development support.  

• Support reporters in building sources with a view to deliver agenda-setting scoops and analysis for our readers.  

• Edit stories to CNBC style, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and impact under tight deadlines.  

• Work cross-functionally with TV, video, and social media teams to produce multiplatform journalism that maximizes reach and impact.  

• Develop forward-looking editorial plans around key news events, industry trends, and policy shifts on your beat.  

• Generate and refine story ideas that combine sharp reporting, original analysis, and global relevance.  

• Maintain high editorial standards, ensuring accuracy, balance, and compliance with CNBC’s guidelines.  

• Contribute to newsroom leadership, helping shape CNBC International’s digital strategy and culture.  

Audience & Engagement Responsibilities  

• Assist in curating, editing, and publishing content across social platforms (Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), ensuring posts are accurate, engaging, and consistent with CNBC’s editorial voice.  

• Curate and update the CNBC.com homepage and app front to highlight the most impactful and relevant stories.  

• Write, edit, and send timely, high-impact mobile push alerts.  

• Monitor, analyze, and act on audience data via tools like Pars.ly and internal dashboards.  

• Edit and repackage stories for different formats (social threads, SEO-optimized headlines, vertical video, etc.).  

• Stay ahead of digital trends, platform shifts, and emerging audience behaviors.  

• Collaborate closely with TV and Digital teams to align promotion and platform strategy for maximum visibility.  

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS 

• Extensive knowledge of CNBC’s editorial and programming priorities, with a strong interest in financial markets, economics, technology, and politics. 

• Strong understanding of US and APAC companies, major technology trends, energy, broader business news, and workplace and career trends. Last bullet can be deleted. 

• Proven capability to perform full and substantive edits under tight deadlines, including reworking leads, refining story angles, ensuring editorial balance, and restructuring content to enhance relevance and appeal for CNBC’s readers. 

• Expertise in writing sharp, compelling headlines and copy editing/proofreading, with a keen eye for identifying and correcting errors, typos, and inconsistencies. 

• Good multitasking and prioritization skills to manage a wide range of tasks effectively under tight deadlines while maintaining composure and efficiency in a fast-paced news environment. 

• Collaborative team player who builds positive and respectful relationships with colleagues across departments and locations, ensuring the website operates seamlessly and maintains high standards of accuracy. 

• Excellent verbal communication and organizational skills, combined with strong research and succinct writing skills. 

• Demonstrated self-starter, with the confidence to make informed decisions in a fast-paced news environment. 

• Flexible and willing to occasionally work different shifts when required, which some start very early in the morning or on weekends.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

• Seven (7) or more years of experience in a related role or function with two (2) or more years of operational and/or people management experience.
