About our client: Our client is a leading global oil & gas company specializing in offshore platform engineering and construction.
Responsibilities & Scope of Work:
- To develop and maintain an accurate, clash-free, and constructible 3D model of all instrumentation and related components within a process plant (e.g., Oil & Gas, Chemical, Pharmaceutical), using designated 3D design software (AVEVA E3D/PDMS, Intergraph Smart Plant 3D/SP3D, Hexagon CADWorx).
- Ensures proper physical placement, accessibility, and integration of instruments within the overall plant design, supporting procurement, construction, and as-built documentation.
- Create intelligent 3D models of all field instruments (transmitters, control valves, analyzers, gauges, etc.) based on P&IDs, instrument index, and vendor drawings.
- Model instrument location, orientation, mounting details (brackets, stands, platforms), and accessibility zones for operation and maintenance.
- Route and model instrument tubing/impulse lines from process taps to instrument enclosures, ensuring proper slope, support, and racking.
- Model instrument air supply tubing and junction box/conduit routing in coordination with the electrical design team.
- Place local instrument cabinets/panels, analyzer shelters, and sampling systems.
- Ensure all models adhere to company standards, project specifications, and industry best practices (ISA, ANSI).
- Interface closely with Piping, Civil/Structural, and Electrical/HVAC design teams to integrate the instrument model into the master model.
- Proactively perform regular clash detection runs using Navisworks or the native 3D tool to identify and resolve spatial conflicts (e.g., a transmitter blocking a ladder way, tubing interfering with a pipe support).
- Participate in 3D model review sessions (30%, 60%, 90% reviews) with engineering, construction, and client teams.
- Generate instrument location plans and installation detail drawings from the 3D model.
- Produce hook-up drawings (impulse and pneumatic) using automated extraction tools where available.
- Create bulk MTOs (Material Take-Offs).
- Generate weight control reports.
- Support the creation of construction work packages and isometric views for complex installations.
- Populate and maintain instrument attributes within the 3D model's database (e.g., Tag Number, Service, Elevation), ensuring consistency with the Instrument Index (from SPI).
- Work with Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) administrators to ensure tag and data alignment between the SPI database and the 3D model (SPI-SP3D integration).
- Manage catalog and spec files within the 3D software, adding custom instrument components as needed.
- Provide constructability input; ensure models reflect practical installation, operation, and maintenance requirements.
- Support the resolution of field queries during construction by reviewing and updating the model.
- Update the model to reflect as-built conditions and design changes.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in instrument-related majors (e.g., Automation, Measurement & Control Technology and Instruments, Engineering, Drafting & Design Technology, or a related field).
- At least 5 years of direct experience in instrument 3D modeling for the process industry (Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, LNG, Pharmaceuticals).
- Experience in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) environment is highly valued.
- Expert proficiency in AVEVA E3D/PDMS, Intergraph SmartPlant 3D (SP3D), Hexagon CADWorx, and AutoCAD Plant 3D.
- Strong proficiency in Navisworks Manage for clash detection, AutoCAD / MicroStation for 2D detailing, and SmartPlant Review.
- Basic understanding of AVEVA Instrumentation or SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) for data consistency.
- Strong understanding of P&IDs and Instrumentation Diagrams, instrument types, their functions, and typical installation requirements.
- Knowledge of ISA standards (e.g., ISA-5.1, ISA-20) and hook-up standards.
- Understanding of piping, structural, and electrical fundamentals to enable effective coordination.
- Meticulous attention to detail, strong spatial reasoning, problem-solving and clash resolution skills.
- Effective communication, collaboration, and teamwork in a highly integrated multi-disciplinary environment.
- Software-specific certifications (e.g., Hexagon/Intergraph SP3D, AVEVA) or professional certifications (e.g., from ISA) are a plus.
