Developer experience is building our next-gen build and testing capabilities for all backend engineers in Grab. The team has been hard at work and has consolidated a significant portion of our legacy services onto a unified CI pipeline using standardised testing frameworks. We aim to bring joy, delight and excellence into the daily work of Grab engineers.

Get to know the Role

Our tools are used by thousands of engineers in Grab. We build tools and platforms to help Grab engineers build their applications quickly and safely, improve the testing process and quality of their apps, ensure the health of the CI/CD pipelines, increase observability of our applications in production, create end-to-end automation for different workflows, and create common libraries to power the common use cases in the different apps that powers the millions of transactions that happens in the Grab ecosystem.

You will look after backend related tools and platforms to help improve the productivity of Grab engineers.

This role is onsite based in our HQ, Singapore office.

The Critical Tasks You will Perform

• You will support teams of engineers to build the next gen build and test platform that allows Grab engineers to improve their products and services without regressions.
• You will build foundational tools so that Grab engineers don't have to reinvent the wheel.
• You will work with Grab engineers to solve their custom problems, and make them more productive.
• You will work with the team on the following:
• Architect efficient and scalable systems.
• Write high-quality and well documented code, and ensure documentation of our tools & platforms are up-to-date.
• Safely roll-out large changes and updates that impact hundreds of engineers.
• Identify and resolve performance and scalability issues.
• Participate in design discussions and code reviews.Be part of on-call for the tools and platforms we own, and participate in post-mortems for any incidents.

What Essential Skills You will Need

• At least 8 years in platform / Software engineering, with at least 2 years managing teams.
• A solid grasp of the software development lifecycle: how services are built, tested, released, and operated.
• Hands-on exposure to GitLab, and specifically to CI pipelines and runners.
• Experience in all the layers of the backend testing pyramid: unit tests, integration tests, end-to-end tests, API testing (REST, Protobuf, GraphQL), coverage, performance testing, load testing.
• Proven engineering management experience: setting roadmap, leading a team, and driving delivery.
• Ability to own prioritization directly, including making independent technical judgment calls under ambiguity and time pressure.
• Strong cross-team collaboration and stakeholder communication, with comfort operating across multiple concurrent priorities.
• An operations and stability mindset suited to critical system.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engineering support and assist the marketing team in retaining existing clients while actively pursuing new business opportunities within the shipbuilding division.

• Support commercial newbuild and ship repair teams during tender exercises for newbuilding and conversion projects.

• Assess contract terms, technical specifications, and equipment requirements to ensure alignment with design obligations.

• Develop initial design concepts that support newbuilding tender submissions.

• Establish drawing schedules and coordinate technical meetings with clients, classification societies, designers, vendors, and system integrators.

• Implement design and engineering production plans for awarded newbuilding projects.

• Interpret classification rules and maritime regulations; review and understand design drawings.

• Collaborate effectively within a team while also handling tasks independently.

Requirements

• Polytechnic Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a closely related field.

• Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in the marine or offshore sectors.

• Sound understanding of shipbuilding processes and project workflows; capable of reviewing technical specifications and engaging in client discussions.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Good interpersonal skills for effective teamwork and stakeholder engagement.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and AutoCAD.

• Willingness to travel overseas (e.g., Indonesia, Taiwan, and other countries) for technical meetings.
