Job Summary
Lead and develop the engineering team to deliver effective maintenance, safety, and operational excellence in a hospitality environment. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, manage fire safety and security functions, and optimize resources to support a safe, efficient facility.
Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering team by planning staffing, assigning work, and setting performance and development goals to enhance team capabilities and productivity.
- Mentor, coach, and provide regular feedback to resolve conflicts and improve team member performance.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee preventive maintenance and repair schedules for all machinery, equipment, and facilities, ensuring quality execution by team members and contractors.
- Train and educate team members on IHG engineering standards, local laws, and safety regulations to ensure compliance and safe work practices.
- Ensure all staff have the necessary tools and equipment to perform their duties effectively.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for guests and team members by enforcing regulatory policies and procedures.
- Manage relationships with guests, regulatory agencies, and external contacts to support operational compliance and service quality.
- Oversee Fire Safety Manager duties including developing fire safety policies, conducting risk assessments and drills, maintaining fire protection systems, liaising with fire authorities, investigating incidents, and training staff on fire safety and evacuation procedures.
- Manage timely ordering and maintenance of parts and supplies, minimizing waste and supporting environmental sustainability initiatives.
- Oversee hotel security operations to reduce risks of theft, crime, and hazards through effective team management.
- Maintain and organize building drawings, specifications, and operational manuals for easy access and reference.
- Adhere to occupational health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures, enforcing property safety, first aid, fire, and emergency protocols within assigned areas.
- Proactively identify and correct hazardous situations, notifying supervisors of potential dangers to prevent accidents.
- Ensure security incidents and accidents are properly logged, investigated, and resolved to prevent recurrence.
- Participate in daily operations meetings to align engineering activities with overall hotel operations.
- Respond to emergency calls at all times, including outside regular working hours, to ensure prompt incident management.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including serving as manager on duty when required.
Required competencies and certifications
- Minimum 5-8 years of management experience in engineering within the hospitality industry, with strong knowledge of building and facilities management including food and beverage outlets and/or meeting spaces.
