About the Centre for Research in Health Systems Performance (CRiHSP)

Optimizing the performance of health systems is essential to ensuring the wellbeing and longevity of populations worldwide. Singapore is particularly well placed to lead research in this field as its health system has been consistently ranked as one of the best in the world based in independent evaluation with the Global Burden of Disease data. The Centre for Research in Health Systems Performance (CRiHSP) aims to advance research in this area within the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of the National University of Singapore (NUS) as the leading centre for research in health systems in Asia with the following core functions:

1. Research: empirical and methodological research and evidence synthesis on health systems performance with a particular focus on Value Based Healthcare.
2. Health policy intelligence: health policy impact analysis aimed at policy makers, service providers, researchers, and the wider public.
3. Capacity building: formal postgraduate programme (from certificates to PhD), fellowships,  mentoring, on-the- job and ad hoc training
4. Contributing to improving NUHS performance: expert advice on the development, implementation, and evaluation of flagship initiatives (including Healthier SG) aimed at making step changes in NUHS performance, and programme evaluation

The multidisciplinary team of researchers in health systems (health services and policy researchers, data scientists, social scientists, and others), and administrators working in CRiHSP will provide an exciting and dynamic place in which people of diverse backgrounds collaborate towards the common goal of achieving excellence in Health Systems Research. The team will further benefit from a significant expansion in related fields and collaborations with the Department of Family Medicine at the National University Health System (NUHS), the new Centre for Sustainable Medicine (CoSM) and the Centre for Behavioural and Implementation Sciences Interventions (BISI) at the School of Medicine and the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health.

About the role

The Research Associate will have the following duties:

• Contribution to the management of research activities including grant and IRB/DSRB applications, budgeting, planning and monitoring project timelines and generally support project management and coordination and liaising with internal and external stakeholders

• Conduct literature reviews, including collation and synthesis of the literature

• Support the design, data collection, analysis and interpretation of qualitative interviews and focus groups

• Contribute to and lead (where appropriate) protocol, manuscript and report timely writing, editing and submission. 
• Present work for feedback and dissemination at workshops or conferences locally and/or internationally

The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their role as the CRiHSP´s capacity evolves.

We are seeking a motivated Research Associate to join our team in advancing cancer and stem cell biology research. The role will independently executing experimental protocols, collecting and analyzing data, and contributing to our understanding of cancer mechanisms and stem cell behavior.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and develop complex cellular models, including organoids, 3D spheroids, and 2D cell cultures.

We are looking for a Research Associate or Senior/Research Fellow to play an essential role in the development and evaluation of a programme of work to optimise cancer screening uptake in primary care. The role will build on existing co-design work and employ mixed methods to develop implementation and evaluation of a family history tool to designed to support risk stratification and identify individuals who may benefit from more intensive screening or referral to genetics services. Purpose of the Post

We seek a motivated and methodical researcher with a strong sense of analytical rigor, who is enthusiastic about applying data to real-world public health challenges and informing evidence-based policy. The Research Associate will report to and work closely with the Principal Investigator and study team members to support the successful implementation of ongoing research cycles under the GBD Study. Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Associate will:

• Conduct systematic reviews and support data extraction, cleaning, and quality-checking in preparation for analysis.
• Support data analysis, including descriptive statistics, generation of graphs, tables, maps, and other innovative figures to visualise health data.
• Interpret and critically appraise analytical results, including cross-checking outputs against existing evidence, identifying implausible estimates, and investigating discrepancies before accepting findings.
• Plan and execute analyses in a structured and reproducible manner, maintaining clear documentation to support team-wide auditability and continuity.
• Contribute to key publications, including the development of manuscripts and associated publication materials.

Qualifications

The following qualifications and competencies are required or preferred:

Academic Background

• Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, statistics, mathematics, social sciences, medicine, or other quantitative disciplines.
• Basic working knowledge of epidemiological measures (e.g. incidence, prevalence, mortality rates, age-standardized rates, disability-adjusted life years) is required.
• Prior research experience is an advantage but is not strictly required.

Analytical & Technical Skills

• Proficiency in R or Python for data wrangling, analysis, and visualization. Candidates should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the logic and validity of their analytical steps, not only the mechanics of running code.
• Familiarity with statistical concepts, including measures of central tendency, regression models, uncertainty estimation, and data quality assessment.
• Familiarity with systematic review methods and databases (e.g. PRISMA, PubMed, Embase) is an advantage; full training will be provided.

Project Title: Development of a Holistic Progress Tool for the Early Childhood Sector

Project Introduction:

This project aims to develop a “Holistic Progress” (HOP) Tool that early childhood (EC) educators can use to observe and document children’s holistic development in the second year of kindergarten. Phase 1 of the project focused on the development of the first cut of the teacher-completed HOP Tool (HOP V1) and preliminary tool completion guide. In Phase 2, HOP V1 was piloted with K2 educators and will be refined into HOP V2 based on psychometric data and stakeholder feedback. In Phase 3, HOP V2 will be piloted with a new sample of EC educators of K2 children and child outcomes assessments will be administered to examine validity evidence. In Phase 4, focus group discussions will be conducted with EC educators to gather feedback on the HOP Tool and develop the user guide. 

Requirements:

• Master Degree in psychology, early childhood education, or a related field

• Proficiency in statistical analysis and familiarity with software like R, SPSS, or Mplus

• Experience conducting assessments with preschool children

• Experience with designing instruments or assessment tools and psychometric analysis

• Experience with preparing and administering questionnaires using online survey software like Qualtrics or Redcap

• Experience with project management and data management

Job Responsibilities*

You will be responsible for the following:

• Conduct qualitative data management, including coding and analysis of focus group discussions (FGDs) and in-depth interviews, and perform in-depth thematic analysis to identify key themes and sub-themes and translate findings into research outputs
• Lead and prepare qualitative research manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
• Plan and support the co-design and implementation of community-based interventions, including engagement with specific population groups (e.g., younger Malay residents)
• Support research protocol development and study design, ensuring alignment with ethical and regulatory requirements
• Contribute to grant development and submission, including one grant resubmission (SSRTG) and one new competitive grant application (e.g., NMRC or equivalent funding schemes)
• Contribute to dissemination of research findings through reports, presentations, and academic publications

Qualifications

• Hold a Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, or a related discipline with training in qualitative research methods

• Proficiency in qualitative data analysis approaches and/or software (e.g. NVivo) is preferred
