[What the role is]

The Forecast Application Development Department develops tools, products and services to support weather monitoring and forecast operations at Meteorological Service Singapore. The Department’s work involves analysing weather radar and environmental satellite data, post-processing numerical weather predictions and developing data-driven models to improve weather nowcasts and forecasts. To fulfil its mission, the Department also participates in stakeholder engagement and research collaboration activities.

We are looking for experienced individuals to develop and implement innovative weather solutions to support operational weather services, specialised stakeholder/user sectors and the public. The role requires deep meteorological expertise (in areas such as Numerical/AI Weather Prediction and specialised meteorological observing systems) as well as the ability to apply methods in related disciplines such as data science, geographic information systems and software development. What is the RAMP Program? The RAMP Program is supplemental to your day-to-day intern responsibilities. In this program, you will take a deeper dive into professional life at Western Digital by getting exposure to different parts of the organization. Some RAMP Program elements include:

This position is based in Western Digital Tech and Regional Center (M), which is a Center of Excellence located in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, develop, test, integrate and maintain quality firmware for eHDD using best practices like unit test, CI and Agile methodologies.  
• Design and implementation of data structures, software algorithms, data path, and drivers for hardware cores using latest standards C++ and Python.   
• Participate in significant technical investigations from problem statement to conclusions.  
• Creates design documents pertinent to the various phases of firmware development. 
• Devise strategies for in-depth functionality and compatibility testing of complex drive features.
