Position Summary
The Systems Engineer undertakes complex projects related to systems provisioning, installations, configurations as well as monitoring and maintenance. He/She applies highly developed specialist knowledge and skills in systems administration and works toward continuous optimisation of systems performance. Implement systems improvements and instructs other IT staff in the resolution of complex issues. Required to be on standby with on-call availability with varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.

Able to quickly and effectively solve issues as they arise and able to methodically identify the cause of the issue, evaluate it and develop a solution in collaboration with the team. Communicates effectively and displays high level of service standards.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Execute Systems Administration Service Levels

• Monitor systems performance and usage, including response times
• Supervise backups, optimisation, initiation of recovery procedures and routine troubleshooting
• Communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure systems integrity and security
• Determine the systems’ short- and long-term requirements
• Manage systems report production

Advise on System Capabilities

• Advise senior leaders on system concepts and functional capabilities
• Provide technical advice to the team and clients on installation, setup, configuration of systems
• Interpret internal or external business issues and recommends solutions/best practices
• Implement plans to make systems available to users in a shared, secure and controlled manner

Develop New Systems

• Lead the development of new systems as per the system requirements
• Design security and integrity controls
• Conduct new systems testing and implementation
• Define the system maintenance procedures
• Analyse the use of new systems to identify enhancement needs
• Lead research initiatives for the development of advanced and automated approaches for system administration

Optimise systems performance

• Seek opportunities to optimise the delivery of systems services with emphasis on availability, reliability, scalability, and security
• Conduct regular system audits and upgrades
• Develop automated processes to define, measure, and report on service quality, stability and capacity

Resolve issues

• Oversee the assessment of risks to systems
• Identify complex system issues to provide advisory to the stakeholders
• Investigate cause of systems issues
• Resolve complex issues
• Provide escalation support for issues presented by the user

Requirements/ Qualifications:

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent.
• Certification in MSCA/MCSE is preferred.
• At least 4 years of experience in administering and managing Microsoft Active Directory, DNS and Group Policy Management.
• Strong communications skills with stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience in healthcare applications preferred.
• Open to commit to 24/7 standby support when required
• 1 year agency contract

Required Qualification: Marine Engineer Officer Class 4 / Class 5 Special Limit (Sailing experience)

Working Hours: Monday - Friday (0745-1745)

As Chief Engineer of the craft your responsibilities and authority with particular reference to safety and pollution prevention include:

Duties and Responsibility

1. In full charge of all machinery and electrical installations on board and responsible for their proper functioning.

2. Familiarizing yourself with the company’s policy on safety and pollution prevention and company’s safety management system.

3. Familiarizing yourself with the relevant sections of the procedures manual.

4. Familiarizing yourself with official maritime circulars concerning safety and pollution prevention

5. Seeing to it that the relevant work instructions are effectively carried out.

6. Making sure that new engineers and crew understand the operating procedures of machinery and equipment relevant to their duties.

7. Knowing your craft in detail, including the propulsion and control systems, directional control system, the electrical installations and equipment, anti-pollution equipment, all piping systems, its safety equipment, alarm systems and damage control system.

8. Personally checking the propulsion and other machinery at start-up, regularly during operation and after shutting down and also checking and engine log book.

9. Seeing to it that the daily and periodical inspections are carried out in accordance with the relevant work instructions, and that safe working practice is followed.

10. Seeing to it that the preventive maintenance of machinery is carried in accordance with the relevant work instructions.

11. Ensuring that there is always sufficient fuel and lubricants on board. Updating records of consumption.

12. Carrying out minor repairs on board and keeping the company informed, through the master, of any major repairs and defects requiring attention by shore staff.

13. Ensuring that proper engineering watches are kept when underway and in port and be on duty on the bridge for bridge controlled machinery or in the engine room or its vicinity.

14. Giving clear and appropriate orders and instructions verbally supplemented by written instructions if necessary.

15. Reviewing with the relevant sections of the procedures manual and work instructions identifying any non-conformities and reporting them to DPA.

16. Ensuring that no oil is pumped into the sea and that oil residues and sludge are disposed of properly to shore facilities.

17. Ensuring that all engineering refuse is properly disposed ashore.

18. Participating in safety and emergency drills on board.

19. Reporting to the master any potential hazards identified on the craft.

• Responsible to Master for the management of the engineering department and for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance and repair of the boilers, propulsion unit, and all cargo handling equipment and all machineries and electrical items onboard the vessel.
• Responsible for the vessel’s Planned Maintenance System, ensuring that PMS is carried out in accordance with Company’s guidelines.
• Responsible for ensuring that all engineering records are properly and accurately maintained at all times and reporting to Head Office on a regular basis.
• Responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of all machineries and machinery spaces and all compartments throughout the ship that are used for the storage of tools, spare gear, engine stores, fuel, thermal boiler and lubricating oil required for the operation of the machinery.
• Responsible for the proper upkeep of Oil Record Book Part I, as per procedures at SOPM Vol. 4 Section 1.
• Keep the Master fully informed of problems with machinery or equipment and the implications on the vessel’s seaworthiness.
