Duties to be Performed:

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Fire Protection Systems will be responsible for designing and delivering mechanical systems for industrial properties in the semiconductor, electronics, biopharma, and related industries.

The Duties/ Responsibilities of the Prospective Candidate are,

• Responsible for Concept, Basic, and Detailed Design of Mechanical Fire Protection Systems, including Fire Sprinkler, Fire Hydrant, Fire Hose Reel in accordance with local and international codes.

• Engineering design of Fire Protection and Detection Systems for new and existing industrial and commercial buildings, ensuring life safety and property protection.

• Conduct feasibility studies and conceptual designs of Fire Protection Systems, evaluating system types (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge) and suppression strategies based on fire risk assessments.

• Review of Fire Protection systems in preparation for testing, commissioning, and validation, ensuring systems function per design intent and performance criteria.

• Provide engineering services for tendering, including preparing technical specifications, BOQ, SOW, conducting site show rounds, and briefing bidders on fire protection packages.

• Develop detailed project plans for Fire Protection scope, including tracking of design milestones, procurement schedules, installation, testing, and commissioning activities.

• Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including Fire Protection Calculations, Hydraulic Calculations, Material Submittals, and As-Built Drawings.

• Liaise with clients to understand project-specific fire safety goals and regulatory requirements, and clarify detailed briefs for each fire protection system design.

• Clearly define and align inter-discipline technical interfaces (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Architectural) and scope demarcation for fire protection systems.

• Work with CAD Drafters and BIM Modelers to guide system modeling, verify routing of pipes and equipment locations, and conduct field verification to ensure installation compliance.

• Perform Friction Loss Calculations for piping networks, determine pump head requirements, and estimate Power Requirements for fire pumps and associated equipment.

• Conduct Fire Risk Assessments and Smoke Control Calculations, and perform system design analyses for compliance with local codes and international standards

• Promote safe working practices, ensuring all fire protection systems are designed and installed to protect the health and safety of employees, contractors, and clients.

• Liaise closely with QA/QC Engineers to ensure inspections, testing and system commissioning are aligned with approved fire protection specifications and quality standards.

Job / Skills Requirement:

You should have a bachelor's degree in mechanical.

You should have sound experience in mechanical systems in designing and installation works related to semiconductors, biopharma, laboratories, data centres, or process buildings.

You should be familiar with Singapore’s latest codes, standards, guidelines, regulations, and authorities’ requirements. Your familiarity with available equipment, modern technology, construction methods, and CAD/ BIM is an added advantage.

You should be able to advise clients and engineers on project execution, supervising progress, and quality of work.

Willing to travel/ relocate.

Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer in Topsides Mechanical Equipment leads complex engineering projects, delivers innovative solutions, ensures compliance with industry standards, and mentors junior engineers. This role supports project execution from design to implementation and interfaces with clients and stakeholders globally.

Responsibilities

• Lead selection of package equipment/skid/module during conceptual design and conduct studies in basic and detailed engineering phases to optimize project outcomes.
• Prepare and review engineering deliverables including specifications, datasheets, RFQs, and TBEs for pumps, compressors, gas turbines, engines, and offshore machinery.
• Evaluate vendor proposals, prepare technical bid clarifications, participate in clarification meetings, and approve vendor data and deliverables to ensure technical compliance.
• Provide expert advice in Package Engineering throughout conceptual, basic, and detailed engineering phases to support project success.
• Conduct risk assessments and manufacturing facility visits to gather data supporting detailed engineering and to assess manufacturing constraints, testing, and lead times.
• Develop and maintain standard specifications and procedures for design, manufacturing, supply, installation, commissioning, and integrity management of rotating equipment.
• Participate in project planning, scheduling, and progress tracking to ensure timely and quality project delivery.
• Resolve technical issues during fabrication, installation, and commissioning phases to maintain project momentum.
• Mentor and support junior engineers and designers, reviewing their work to ensure quality and accuracy.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems encountered during project execution to minimize delays and risks.
• Engage in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical discussions to ensure robust engineering solutions.
• Respond to queries from clients, contractors, and internal teams regarding rotating equipment technical aspects.
• Prepare formal responses to classification societies and client comments on specifications and drawings to maintain compliance.
• Coordinate with fabrication, installation, commissioning, and operations teams to resolve technical issues and ensure smooth project execution.
• Maintain accurate records of design changes, decisions, and project milestones for traceability and quality assurance.
• Ensure all project documentation complies with quality management systems and project requirements.
• Prepare project schedules and progress reports to monitor and communicate project status effectively.
• Travel internationally to the US, Europe, and/or Asia as required to support project needs and client engagement.

Required competencies and certifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or related Engineering.
• Proven experience in offshore or onshore oil and gas industry projects.
• Experience working at top-tier FPSO contractors or Offshore/Onshore EPC contractors, with at least 5–7 consecutive years in the same contractor.
• Experience managing FPSO EPCI projects from engineering start through sail-away or delivery.
• Hands-on expertise in Mechanical Static or Package engineering for FPSO or Offshore EPCI projects, including RFT document preparation, tender process management, vendor coordination, and construction/commissioning support.
• Strong knowledge of Mechanical Static or Package engineering practices, industry codes, standards, and scientific problem-solving methods.
• Strong leadership skills to manage multiple priorities and lead teams effectively.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex engineering challenges.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written, to engage with co-workers, vendors, and clients.

Preferred competencies and qualifications

• Hands-on Field Engineering experience during construction or onshore/offshore commissioning phases is an advantage.
