Job responsibilities

• Write and review backend infrastructure code.
• Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
• Perform technical security assessments, code audits and design reviews.
• Develop technical solutions to help mitigate security vulnerabilities.
• Advocate security and secure practices throughout Google Payments.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Go, Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript), or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
• 1 year of experience with security in attacks and mitigation methods.

Preferred qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• Experience in application and service security, including design reviews, and source code assessments.
• Knowledge of security engineering, computer and network security, authentication, security protocols and applied cryptography.

[What you will be working on] 

About DEP: 

Digital Economy Products (DEP) is a division within GovTech running like a modern product organisation, solving important underserved problems spanning across Healthcare, Manpower, Trade-Industry-Finance, National Development, and Sustainability sectors. 

We are seeking experienced Staff/Senior Software Engineers to lead one or more squads working on the above sectors. You will play a crucial role by providing technical leadership & driving design, development, and maintenance of our software products, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality, security and performance. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with excellent leadership abilities to drive software development initiatives, while providing technical guidance & coaching to their team(s).

As a Staff/Senior Software Engineer: 

• Lead one or more cross-functional agile squads consisting of Engineers, Product Managers, and Designers to solicit business requirements & deliver technical solutions 

• Lead the technical design and architecture of software solutions, ensuring security, scalability, performance, and maintainability 

• Guide, mentor and work closely with your team to to uplift product engineering competencies 

• Establish coding standards, best practices, and development processes for your team(s) 

• Identify and resolve technical debt/risks while balancing feature development 

• Drive adoption of relevant, up-to-date technologies, practices, and tools in modern software development lifecycle 

• Lead/Guide Scrum ceremonies, providing technical/product context and removing blockers 

[What we are looking for] 

Background 

• Minimum 15 years of software engineering experience building reasonably large high-availability systems at scale 
• Master's graduate in Computer Science with hands-on experience in data-driven systems and a strong foundation in algorithms, machine learning, and software engineering. 
• Proven track record of leading & delivering technically complex products 
• Strong experience in modern full-stack web application technologies; experience in modern front-end engineering on Next.Js/React.js/Nuxt/Vue.js and Java/TypeScript/Node.js/Golang on the backend is preferred 
• Strong knowledge of databases (SQL & NoSQL) and data modeling 
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS (preferred), Azure and/or GCP 
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, etc.) 
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or other container orchestration tools 
• Experience with observability and monitoring tools, especially the ELK stack, AWS CloudWatch, Splunk 
• Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders 
• Bonus: Led legacy system modernization projects, including transitioning legacy systems to modern platforms 
• Bonus: Experience with / willing to pick up Infra as Code (eg. Terraform, Terragrunt, Ansible)
