Role Summary

You will execute and support research in laser material processing, ranging from laser surface texturing, laser cleaning, laser micro-machining, laser peening, and laser metal deposition. The role will also involve supporting characterization work, such as optical microscope and SEM imaging, sample preparation, residual stress and fatigue life measurement, analyzing of data and compilation, and overseeing other day-to-day activities such as procurement, equipment maintenance and laboratory supervision as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and execute R&D efforts in laser material processing.
• Conduct experimental trials; optimise process parameters to meet functional requirements (wear resistance, water affinity, surface hardness and roughness etc.).

A Research Engineer position is open under the supervision of Prof. Gong Xiao, at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS).   The Research Engineer will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) on one or more research projects.  The project aims to explore advanced semiconductor electronic devices for future advanced integrated circuits.

Qualifications

1.    Possess a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering with strong knowledge in semiconductor device technology and process. 
2.    Strong knowledge in semiconductor device physics. 
3.    At least 2 years in simulation, fabrication, and testing of semiconductor devices. 
4.    Proficient in simulation software, such as Sentaurus, Spice, matlab, etc.
5.    Possess relevant expertise proven through coursework and projects during his/her studies.
6.    Excellent academic track record from well-recognized universities. Excellent course work with strong academic performance. 
7.    Excellent communication skills as he/she is required to publish and to present results at conferences and journals independently. 
8.    Work well with team and be independent, and be able to balance well between advancing his/her own research and contributing to the larger team’s success.

The main responsibility of this position is to deliver on an industry innovation research project. The Research Fellow/Engineer will be a key member of the research team focused on developing a framework for soil conditioning in Singapore soils through a series of experimental investigations. Additionally, they will work on delivering a novel Screw Conveyor Extraction Test (SCET) equipment, crucial for accurately assessing the effectiveness of soil conditioning in tunneling processes. The proposed framework and equipment will be validated at an active tunneling site.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in and manage the research project with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.

• Undertake these responsibilities in the project:
• Execute all experiments (e.g. foam stability test, slump test etc.) reliably.
• Liaise with the industry partner and agency to plan and execute the field trials.
• Develop the framework for effective soil conditioning in local soils.
• Design the SCET equipment and liaise with vendors in its manufacture and assembly.
• Validate the framework and SCET using findings from field tests.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to student assistants involved in the research project.
• Carry out Risk Assessments, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations.
• Coordinate procurement and liaise with vendors/suppliers.
• Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of the equipment.
• To liaise with any internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met
• Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor.

• Have relevant competence in the areas of geotechnical experimental investigations and soil conditioning used in tunnelling.

Job Requirements:

2. Familiar with common machine learning and deep learning algorithms and keeping track with the latest SOTA implementations. 

3. Strong programming skill in Python, C / C++, proficient in mathematical / statistical concepts and exceptional coding skills 

4. Hands-on experience with AI / ML frameworks be familiar such as Caffe, PyTorch, TensorFlow, MxNet etc.
